The apartment is situated literally in the square of Campo de' Fiori, the most historic fruit and vegetable market of the old city, overlooking the statue of Giordano Bruno, the famous philosopher, astronomer and writer, who, in 1600, was burned in the square for his views, considered as heretical by the Catholic Church. Campo de' Fiori and the adjacent Piazza Farnese are not only amongst the main sites to visit in the city; the square is also walking distance from all the principal sites in Rome, including the Vatican (1.8 km), the Colosseum and the imperial forums (1.7 km), the Appian way with its catacombs and Roman aqueducts (3km) the Pantheon (800m), the Spanish steps (1.6km) and Piazza del Popolo (2km), the shopping area around Via del Corso (1.3 km) and Piazza Navona (300m). The Campo de' Fiori neighborhood is also rich of bars and restaurants, amongst which we would recommend the Pizzerie Balestrari and Baffetto, the traditional Roman restaurant 'Er Galletto', the delicatessen Roscioli and the upscale restaurants Camponeschi and San Lorenzo. Finally, the apartment is 5 minutes walking distance across the Tiber river from the lively neighborhood Trastevere.

For guests considering a longer stay (4 or more days), we would recommend exploring also the surroundings of Rome. Rome is situated in the region of Lazio. Lazio boasts a number of natural and historical sites, ideal for day trips away from the bustling city. First and foremost, the ancient Roman villas in Tivoli - Villa Adriana, Villa Gregoriana and Villa d'Este. Second, the Castelli Romani (Albano, Grottaferrata, Marino, etc), i.e., green hills surrounding Rome where the aristocratic families of the 15th century had their summer palaces. Second, we would recommend Viterbo, the second largest town in Lazio, which was established during the Middle Ages. It was the principal residence of the Popes in the 14th and 15th centuries. Viterbo is famous for its Medieval art and its stunning Palace of the Popes (Palazzo dei Papi). Further afield, northern Lazio is characterized by its Etruscan towns, amongst which Cerveteri, Tarquinia and Tuscania, which feature Etruscan museums and ruins. For nature lovers we would recommend the beautiful lakes of volcanic origin, amongst which the lakes of Bracciano and Martignano. If you are travelling between May and October, it is also worth visiting the Tirrenean coast, rich of pleasant beaches. To the south of Rome we can recommend Circeo (where Homer’s epic the Odyssey had it that Ulysses met the sorceress Circe), Sabaudia, Terracina, Sperlonga and Gaeta; to the north Santa Marinella and Santa Severa leading up to the beautiful coast of Tuscany (Capalbio, Ansedonia, Argentario). Finally, from Rome you can easily visit other famous Italian cities such as Florence and Naples, which are only 1 1/2 hours away if you travel with the Eurostar trains (freccia argento and freccia rossa)
