About: We are working class folks that started going to Port A for fun with friends and fell in love with the place. Mustang Island Beach Club is an up and coming small facility that's a super value and in the right location on the beach...and it has HUGE balconies that we found irresistable. What's the point of coming to the beach if you can't sit out with your friends/family and star gaze, listen to the surf, have a few beverages, etc. without having to sit in a 'single file' row like the $500/nite places? Port A is so diverse in its dining, fishing, beach-combing, etc. atmosphere that I almost hate to screw it up by telling folks about it...I want it all to myself. I'm 'retired' (which means that my Wife has already found me another job) and use Port A as an escape like no other. Make sure you book enough time to fully check the island out...you may be the next one buying a place of your own if you do.
Why Mustang Island Beach Club:
We bought it to stay in ourselves...but quickly found out that others found the unique mix of Port A, the casual atmosphere of Mustang Island Beach Club, and the low cost to be too much for them. As a result, we have a hard time getting access to our own property. That being said, we'd like to ultimately move to Mustang Island to enjoy the diverse folks as well as myriad of things to do here...we're talking great food for a good price, informal attire, great fishing and beach time, and an easy drive from places like Austin, San Antonio, and even Dallas/Ft. Worth. I don't think I've EVER met an unfriendly local resident on the island (to include the local law enforcement). They always are happy to greet us, treat us like we belong there (which we now feel we do), and help with anything from directing us to anything from the best locations for activities to which store sells jumper cables. Amazing to find, especially in a 'tourist town' and probably only experienced in Texas. From the time you drive across the causeway from Corpus or, even better, take the free ferry from Aransas Pass (look for dolphins), you'll have entered a different and wonderful world.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
Neither my Wife or I are 'early risers', but if we were (according to folks that have stayed in our Unit with us), we'd be treated to a spectacular sun rise. Run into Port A and buy breakfast burritos if you're the first ones up (and have soaked up enough scenery and coffee) and bring them back to the condo...you'll always be invited back. Once you've finished breakfast, sit back and enjoy the view and smell of the surf or get your backside up and mozy/drive down the private lane to the boardwalk for a walk on the beach. Either way, you'll be satisfied that 'this isn't Kansas Toto'. Being the 'working stiff' that I am, probably the most satisfying thing about a stay at Mustang Island Beach Club is (at least from Unit 112) being able to enjoy the beach atmosphere/lifestyle on the balcony while watching your kids in the pool and game room (all at the same time) and not leave with a big dent in your wallet. Not many bargains out there now adays, but this is definitely one worth pursuing.
