Downtown Westside Craftsman Bungalow - Walk Everywhere!
- Minimum stay:3 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Charming Craftsman in the historic Old Bend neighborhood just south of the downtown core. Our home is just two short blocks from downtown shops, great restaurants and art galleries and only a 15 minute walk to the Old Mill District. The Deschutes River with Drake Park, hiking and biking trails, kayaking and tubing are just a short walk away also and the Mt. Bachelor ski resort is only a 30 minutes drive. You will find a newly remodeled Safeway grocery store 3 blocks away and we are four blocks from one of the best bike rental shops in town.
Other amenities include a gas fireplace, gourmet kitchen, washer/dryer and two full baths with heated tile floors. We kept the original maple hardwood floors in the living room and yes, they still squeak, but the have been beautifully refinished. Both bedrooms have one queen size bed.
Please check our calendar for available nights.
Come be our guests and enjoy!

'We had a delightful long weekend at your Bend house! The location was great--a short walk downtown and convenient to the road to Mt Bachelor. And the house is so cute and comfortable.

'We loved your house in Bend. The weather was perfect and we got in 10 days of skiing at Bachelor. The lifts closed at 1 PM which gave us a little hiking/biking time in the afternoon. Hope to do it again in the near future!
Thanks Again - Bill'
'Mike and Sharon...

The photos of this home do not do it justice. It is clean and well furnished. Colors are subtle, cabinets are new, and appliances are easy to figure out. Yes, the floor squeaks in places, but what else would you expect from real wooden floors? It has more space we than expected when initially viewed on line. All the rooms are good sized and easy to move around in. I would have liked a full length mirror but the lack of one is certainly not a deal breaker. As I settled in to a very comfortable living room chair to read, it briefly crossed my mind that a hassock would be handy but then I just curled up and forgot about it. It's that kind of house--comfortable and natural. My sister and I especially appreciated having to bathrooms so we could manage our own routines without worrying about how much counter space we were using. We only wished that we were staying longer. Landscaping was in process while we were there and we could tell that the final results will be both functional and pretty. Would I rent this house again? In a heartbeat!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Enjoyed everything about this rental property. House was immaculate and well-kept. Great bathrooms, nice kitchens and I slept like a baby. Great location also - enjoyed walking downtown, to Boneyard Beer, and the 14th St area (Brother Jons, 10 Barrel) Would not hesitate to rent this house again, or recommend to others. Internet access worked great. Owner was also responsive to requests for info. House was accurately described in the listing.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We had a great time in Bend and certainly the home location was ideal. It was a bit odd to find only enough towels for 1 person each for a 4 night stay. We found ourselves doing more laundry than expected. We had hoped the yard would be fenced, in order to let our dog out without a leash given it was pet friendly. Overall and good house and a great time.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: April, Thanks so much for your comments. We just purchased new towels to add to our supply. We are also building a fence to enclosed the side yard. Also, thank you for taking such good care of our home during your stay. We hope you will visit again. Mike & Sharon

Just what we wanted: a charming, well appointed 2 bedroom bungalow in a great neighborhood w/ all the amenities we wished for a memorable week of relaxing, skiing and feeling like we had a low upkeep home away from home. We love being able to easily walk to town to eat but great to stay home and cook sometimes too (had everything we needed except possibly a vegetable scraper - which I was going to get and leave but I never went in a store.) I We will be back for sure (we still need to try the deck and grill!)Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Carol, Thank you for staying with us! We'll make sure to update our kitchen utensils to include the vegetable scraper right away. Hope to see you again soon. Mike & Sharon

Perfect location to all activities in Bend area but especially convenient to the restaurants and microbrews located in the downtown area. The house is very well maintained and considering it was used mostly for sleeping and as a HQ for golfing, it satisfied our needs beyond expectations.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway.

About the owner: Sharon is a real estate broker and Mike is a general contractor. We both love craftsman style homes and renovating and remodeling. We live in San Diego but find Bend to be the perfect second home. Dave, our caretaker in Bend makes renting our place easy because of his attention to detail and prompt follow-up with our guests.
Why the Owner Chose Bend:
We found Bend completely by accident. Our only experience with Oregon was visiting Brookings on the coast just north of the CA border and we found the stereotype of OR weather to be spot-on. Wet, chilly, even in the summer.
What we didn't know was the little advertised east slope of the Cascade mountain range is one of the most beautiful places on earth. On a ski / road trip in 2005 to visit friends in Vail and then Jackson, we were then headed to Florence, OR for a wedding. Fortunately for us our path took us directly through Bend. That was after spending the night in Burns and wondering how we didn't know there could be a desert in OR.
Anyway, we fell in love with the place. It was February and the weather beautiful! Stopping for gas we asked for directions to Mt. Bachelor. The station attendant who was wearing shorts, advised us not to head up to the mountain that day, because there were blizzard conditions. Yeah right, we thought. Bachelor only 20 miles away and it was nice and sunny in Bend.
To make a long story longer... the attendant was right. We started our journey and at mile 5, it started to snow. At mile 15 it was snowing REEEAALY hard. By the time we got to the resort parking lot we were in complete white-out conditions and could barely see to park.
Well, we had a very a nice lunch in the lodge, and, after a very short discussion, we decided skiing an unfamiliar mountain in whiteout conditions would probably not be wise. We resigned ourselves to return another day.
Resuming our trip to Florence, we were delighted to find little Hoodoo ski resort (two lifts) just west of Sisters. After two fun hours of skiing in clear conditions we still made the coast and Florence by 5:00 pm for the rehearsal dinner.
Our next trip to Bend was in the summer and that sealed the deal for us. The people, weather, community, dining, and outdoor life are everything we wanted for a second home. So we bought one!
THE END... and new beginning :-)
Sharon & Mike
