Location: Lake George (Lake Eufaula), Alabama, USA (30 miles NE of Dothan, 15 miles S of Eufaula;)

Gypsy's cottage at Lake Eufaula is a wonderful retreat on the south portion of Lake Eufaula. The cottage sits on two acres in a gated community with a partial river view through the trees. Lake Eufaula (Lake Walter F. George) is a 45,000-acre, fresh water, recreation lake known as "The Bass Capital of the World." The lake offers year round outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, and skiing. The area is also well known for hunting as deer and other small game and birds are plentiful.

Our cottage offers two bedrooms, (one full bed and one queen bed), and one bath with a back porch overlooking the back yard and a partial view of the lake, a large sloping landscaped yard full of flowering trees, pines, and seasonal bushes. There is a two-person Hot Tub located on the lower level for your private use (you fill when you arrive). On the side of the yard is a picnic table, a swing, and a fire pit. The cottage does not have direct water access but is on the top of a hill very close to the water. The development offers a private fishing dock and swimming beach on the loop down by the lake. A Corp of Engineers camping area and boat launch site is within one mile south at Hardridge Creek.

Eufaula offers many sightseeing opportunities including antique shopping, historical homes and sites, six 18 hole golf courses, over 50 restaurants, etc. For more information on all the region has to offer visit the sites provided.

The Eufaula Pilgrimage, April 3-5, 2009, is an annual tour of historic homes in Eufaula, Alabama, home of Lake Eufaula. The tour is sponsored each year by the Eufaula Heritage Association. Eufaula has many old homes and structures that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Eufaula Heritage Association was formed in 1965 to prevent the loss and destruction of Eufaula's historic homes and treasures. The Association purchased Shorter Mansion at auction and made it the headquarters for both the Association and the
annual Eufaula Pilgrimage.

  • A great time was had at Gypsy's Cabin. We enjoyed the peaceful view of the lake through the trees while eating our meals or just lounging on the couch. The cottage has the feeling of home throughout. It was a "just what the doctor ordered" getaway! Since we had such wonderful tempertures and weather, we walked the neighborhood streets down to the pier and the beach area. Also, we enjoyed Eufala's Pilgrimage of old homes, walked their streets to enjoy the local atmosphere and friendly people. Thanks Gypsy for allowing us to enjoy your cottage.
