These 4 guests called me shortly after arriving b/c two lights weren't working. I responded within 15min and fixed the problem to the gentleman's satisfaction. I then had a pleasant conversation with him and he paid me for the week. I heard nothing more from them until I found a 3 page diatribe laced with personal attacks on my character. Words such as remorseless and shameless were used. No one has ever said such things to me in my life. Despite this I took their critiscms seriously, to a point. My response 1)Yes, there is some peeling paint on the house and porch and both have been painted within 5 years 2) Cobwebs do occur and are addressed weekly. Maybe one was missed 3)The house has been renovated by professionals and is safe 4)The website clearly states that the house is across the street from "working waterfront" and the photo shows that(a roof is visible)5)The house is cleaned weekly by two people 6)The yard is landscaped and the shrubs were trimmed after I read their letter. I was trying to wait for the sap to stop flowing in the fall. 7)The house is full of artwork and one picture offended someone. It was not intended to. 8)They suggested that I call animal control about the neighbor's cat who wanders into my yard on occasion and makes himself at home. Really? The people that stayed there immediately after had some suggestions, but then asked if they could buy the house. The next two groups have been happy and I've done nothing differently. My analogy to this is someone who eats their entire meal in a restaurant, licks the plate, then asks for their money back. They should have called me. I refunded some of their fee, by the way. Thank you.

I have used VRBO for scores and scores of rentals, never dissapointed,but I have to acknowledge,this rental has to be most pleasant surprise ever. The only thing better than the house, very tastefully decorated with personal artwork,is the graciousness and local knowledge the owners provide. Listen well and your vacation will be so enhanced.
