Maryland Weekly Fishing Report Overview | December 07, 2011
2012 summer weekly rental $935 flat rate includes tax and cleaning.

The Sunrise~Sunset Cottage is your home on the Chesapeake Bay.Less than 150 miles from D.C. A perfect vacation destiation .
Nestled in a historic Chesapeake Bay fishing village. Scenic and peaceful year round, the Sunrise~Sunset Cottage sits on the southern tip of Deal Island in the harbor village of Wenona. View a Maryland Public T.V. documentary on Youtube called "Island Crusader". This program begins in the fishing village Wenona Harbor. Deal Island shares a similar history, bird, and wildlife population with Hollands Island.

Enjoy spectacular Chesapeake Bay and Wenona Harbor water views from our modern custom built waterman's style cottage. Watch ships and fishing boats from the 2nd floor living room picture window and 2nd floor deck. Sip coffee as you take in a Wenona Harbor sunrise from the 2nd floor screened-in porch/deck area.

Welcome to Maryland's "slower, lower" Eastern Shore!

Plenty to do and see!!! Bring your boat(s) or rent ours. We offer kayak, bike, and motor boat rentals. Plus there is free use of our canoe. Maybe charter a boat from one of the Wenona Harbor boat captains for some fishing, birding and/or sightseeing. We are home to the Eastern Shore's best fishing & sightseeing spots. Panaromic water vistas galore!!!

Hike/bike Deal Island. A perfect blend of water vistas, harbor activity and old town charm. Bring your camera. It's one of the few remaining places on earth to harbor the commercial Skipjack sailboat. Do you like to eat crabs and fresh fish? Buy'em directly from the boat captains as they come in to harbor with their "catch of the day".Or enjoy catching your own.

Birdwatch with our binoculars or yours from our 2nd floor OR as you bike or hike the Wildlife Mangement area which runs throughout the island. birdwatchers can see Egrets, Herons, Pelicans, and Bald Eagles. Many from the raised living area of the cottage. Stargaze with our telescope or by naked eye;..the Milky Way never looked more stunning!

Enjoy our upstairs livingroom area w/vaulted ceiling & ceiling fan.Which functions as a year round sun room and nature obsevatory Take in breathtaking sunsets from the living room picture window, feel the warm bay breeze, and watch sailboats, fishing boats and ships as they cruise the bay. Sip coffee from our 2nd floor screened-in porch/deck area as you watch the sunrise "inch up" over Wenona Harbor.

This is a great place for kayak or canoe trip adventure too. You can paddle the short distance to Little Deal Island...relax, fish, crab or dig for muscles on its beach. Explore the local tributaries, such as the Manokin River.

Guests at our home will feel like neighbors when they are greeted at the general store by Arby and his family who will answer questions and give you info on water conditions as well as fishing and boating info. Arby's store is stocked to meet the needs of fishermen/boaters...AND with penny candy for kids of all ages!

Bring your bikes as it's a wonderful place for a short tour around town or for that longer bike ride over the Deal Island Bridge and around the Deal Island Wildlife Management Area. We provide a guide.

You can also relax on the quiet beaches of Deal Island and Little Deal Island. We provide the beach chairs & umbrella. And remember to save plenty of down time to enjoy summer reading by the bay and board games. This is a great place to reconnect with friends and family any time of year.

Night time is campfire time around our property firepit! Hey maybe roast some oysters, muscles and/or Smores as you gaze skyward for shooting stars!

There are several options for dining. Stock up on groceries at the Food Lion in Princess Anne as well as prepared seafood from the nationally known Beach to Bay Seafood Restaurant and dine by the bay at home. Princes Anne has several Eastern shore-style restaurants as well as fast food choices. We also recommend Lucky's Last Chance Grill located in Chance, Maryland just before crossing the Deal Island bridge.

Great Home (Rented 9/18/09-9/20/09)

Great home and great place to relax. Bill and Patty were able to accommodate us on very short notice and the house was great. The house is very well kept and cozy. There was more than enough room and great views. The small town was quaint and had great fishing spots. I don't think we've ever had a vacation that was so relaxing fun. Thank you Bill & Patty for sharing your beautiful home with us.

Awesome beach adventure!

Guest: Becki G. (Grove City, Pennsylvania)
Date of Stay: 07/25/11 Review Submitted: 08/01/11

My Family had a wonderful stay in your cottage. It was a well maintained property, and clean. We had 4 teenagers, and they were never bored! The beach on Deal Island is small, but very private and most the time we had it to ourselves. At sunset we would go find more glass and shells than i have EVER seen anywhere before. We boated to little deal island where we explored the island. It is a bit on the rough side, but that was its charm. Totally inhabited by anything but pure nature, and its creatures. We found so many strange objects that kept the kids searching for more. We even found a perfect glass bottle from the 30's totally intact on the beach! My husband and i did do some fishing from the boat, and we caught some fish. I even had a crab on the line! What would have made it perfect is if we had better access to the water. It was a bit frustrating being so close to the water, but having to drive somewhere to get to the boat. But at least we had that option, where the others rentals didnt. Arby and his family (and all the locals) were very kind and helpful with everything. We even went to "luckys" and had our last dinner there, and they even gave me a piece of cake with a sparkler for my birthday which was that day. All in all, it was a very relaxing vacation, and i would recommend it to anyone who wants to get back to the basics of nature and quiet. We made a quick day trip to Ocean City, which made the kids happy, but i hated it and couldnt wait to get back to the peaceful island!

Owner response:This review really captures the Deal Island experience and the reason we love it so much. The local residents do make our guests feel welcome. The Wenona Harbor, where the boat is launched by our boat manager is a short walk from the house. You can see that from the aerial view. The water view location does allows us to offer affordable rates.

Great vacation

We had a wonderful vacation! Caught lots of fish including a great big flounder which we cooked for dinner. On our way back into the Wenona Harbor we saw some Dolphins who after we stopped came right up to the boat. That was the first time we have seen live dolphins. The house was really nice. We spent lots of time relaxing on the screened Porch.

Nicole & Terence's Vacation at the Cottage _Superb

Guest: Nikki (Waldorf, MD)
Date of Stay: 06/08/11 Review Submitted: 06/16/11

Patty & Bill, OMG you have such a lovely place on Deal Island. Terence & I loved it. Everyone treated us so nice and cordial. Arby is the man though....Unfortunately, Terence & I did not go fishing or crabbing because I think we were relaxing and just chillin and enjoying the peace and quiet. The listing description was 100% correct. The property was cleaned and very well maintained. The owners showed excellant customer service and great communication. Please keep me in mind for next year, I would love to come back to do it all over again. I also wrote you alittle note and stuck it on the notebook on the counter. Thank you again, Nicole & Terence

Owner response:Thank you Nicole & Terence! Your review is great encouragement to us. We will share this with Arby, Stacy who helps us with cleaning, and Holland who helps with maintenance. We are so lucky to have their support. We are thrilled that you plan to come back and stay again and look forward to hearing from you. Patty & Bill

Best Spring Break Vacation

Guest: Kiera (Lawrenceville, NJ )
Date of Stay: 03/12/11 Review Submitted: 03/19/11

A group of five of us went to this house for our spring break. We weren't sure what to expect, but everything was amazing. The house was gorgeous, Arby and his family were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed cooking our own food and using the grill. We hit up Washington DC and Baltimore in the week we were there. This break was the most relaxing break that we had ever had. We definitely enjoyed the house. The size was good. I slept on the sofa bed upstairs in the living room and it was so comfortable. All five of us slept better than we had in weeks. It was a total destressor week. The view from the windows were beautiful. One night there was a thunderstorm and the whole upstairs lit up blue with the lightening. I would definitely recommend this property to others looking for a hasslefree vacation house. Bill and Patty were extremely accomodating and they made the process very easy. The island was warm and inviting. There was nothing about the place that we didn't like. There were lots of places to explore and wander and of course the beauty of the bay surpassed our expectations. We had a wonderful time and the memories we made there will forever stay etched in our memories.

Owner response:Our thanks for a fantastic review. This was a great group of people we hope will return in the future. FYI The cottage is locaed on the lower Eastern Shore of Md and a road trip to Baltimore nd DC is a 3-4 hour drive.

Had a Great Time!

Guest: Erika (White Plains, NY)
Date of Stay: 06/23/10 Review Submitted: 07/13/10

Hi Patty & Bill - Thank you for the use of your lovely home on Deal Island last week. We enjoyed our stay very much and particularly enjoyed meeting and speaking with the folks at Arby’s. We found the accommodations to be very clean and comfortable and the location to be perfect for our needs. Despite the heat, we had a good time exploring the island by kayak. And on Thursday evening, from the comfort of your livingroom, we got to experience one of the sudden wind and rain storms that come up on the steamy bay. It was topped off by the sight of a big beautiful red ball dropping below the horizon at sunset. Thank you again for making our visit to Deal Island possible. We hope to return soon.

Cozy, Rented Dec/26/09 - Jan 2/10

Guest: Christmas remembered (Norfolk, Va)
Date of Stay: 12/26/09 Review Submitted: 01/19/10

Dear Patty and Bill, We were looking for a get away place from job stress and school during the school christmas brake and your house was just the thing. We really enjoyed every minute on the island and your house was so nice and comfortable. Even though it looks small from the outside there was plenty of room for the 8 of us. And watching the sun set into the Chesapeake Bay was beautiful. The people on the island were very friendly. They even invited us to their annual New Year Eve community party at Arby's store. Some of us came from Norfolk, VA and some from CT. We highly recommend this house to any one who needs to relax, read a book, and stay in your PJ. We did not even turn the TV on. We enjoyed a TV free week. We did do a little exploring on the island but it was a little cold which we expected. We took sight seeing trips in the car to the nearby towns. We hope to go back in the future and we thank Patty and Bill for sharing their house with us.
