Relax and enjoy in tranquil and beautiful Kailua, a friendly small town just 30 minutes away from Honolulu!

Enjoy your visit in this spacious self-contained 660 sq ft 1 bedroom rental adjacent to our home, but with a very private feeling! The rental contains clay art pieces that give a unique flavor to it and the outdoor area provides a wonderful venue to enjoy Oahu's nice weather.

Kailua Beach, one of Hawaii's finest, is only a couple of blocks away from this rental (about a 5-10 minute walk). You will access the beach in its mid section, which is less crowded than the beach park section and has better boogie boarding and some tree-shaded areas, and the sunrise is fantastic (make sure you bring your camera!)

If you like sea and outdoor activities, Kailua beach is a terrific place to do boogie-boarding, kayaking, kite surfing, swimming and (small waves) surfing. There are beautiful trails in Kailua and neighboring Lanikai that have breathtaking views of the Windward coast. In addition, outdoor activities are accessible all over the Island of Oahu, and it only takes about 3.5 hours to drive around the whole Island, so everything is close.

If you enjoy shopping, Kailua offers all kinds of stores: all the way from typical and familiar brand stores like Macy's & Pier 1 Imports to chic and vintage boutiques, antique stores, and art galleries.

Kailua also has excellent restaurants, juice bars, shave ice locales, bakeries, and cafes. We have put together a booklet that lists all these food and drink venues and we will also be happy to give you personalized recommendations based on our own experiences!

There are also lots of activities in Honolulu, which is only half an hour away by car (public bus is also available): theater, music, performing shows, museums, movies, etc.

So why not get the best of both worlds and enjoy the lively and busy action of Waikiki and Honolulu and spend the night in slow-paced Kailua?

We hope to see you soon!

Owner's Map of Kailua

We moved to Hawaii from California five years ago, after falling in love with the Islands during our first visit. We like the calm, friendly, and safe atmosphere of Kailua and all the fun water and outdoor activities. We enjoy the variety of cuisine available and interesting outlets like independent bookstores, boutiques, and cafes.

I can't add anything to all the wonderful reviews written so far, but to say that this rental was our best vrbo experience to date. the owners were so great about making sure we were having a great time. I would recommend this to anyone. The activities book in the cottage was very complete as far as giving information on where to go and things to do. This is a little house in a very Hawaiian neighborhood and we loved it.

Great rental for small families

We finally got away for the Christmas Holiday--just the three of us, and this rental was the perfect retreat. The advertisement and description of the property is very accurate and the beach seemed even closer than described!!! I really enjoyed the creative use of space in the rental and the bright, airy feeling of the art and white tiles. My only irk--which has nothing to do with Tony and Eva--is the close proximity of houses to one another in Hawaii. For someone used to a rural environment, the sounds of neighbors living their daily lives was unsettling, especially because we really enjoyed the cool breezes blowing through open windows. Tony and Eva did everything to make us feel welcome and were not too imposing...their presence was perfect. As for attractions, we bagged Hanuama Bay because there were entirely too many people, even at 8 in the morning. We found great snorkeling beaches all along Rt. 72, so would recommend skipping all of the people! We didn't plan on going to the Waikiki Aquarium or Zoo, but are so happy we did, we had some great family moments there. I think the Kailua location is the perfect place for an Oahu vacation.

GREAT VACATION EXPERIENCE!

Guest: Tanya and Pete (Laguna Hills, California)
Date of Stay: 09/16/11 Review Submitted: 10/23/11

We are very excited to share out great vacation experience in Clay Art Cottage. It is the first time our family of four (2 adults and kids ages 10 and 6) decided to rent a place from an owner and was a little bit uncertain how it will be. After going through lots of places for rent on website, we’ve decided that Clay Art Cottage is the best match for what we need. Reading all the positive reviews for the unit, we were sure that we’ll have a good time and we didn’t make a mistake. We had the BEST vacation of our lives as a family! The place is wonderful. All the positive things in reviews are absolutely true. Location is convenient –very close to a beautiful beach. We usually were able to go to the beach twice a day: before going sightseeing or hiking for a morning boogie-boarding/surfing and after for an evening jog. The neighborhood is very quite, safe and friendly. Unit has everything you need to feel yourself at home. Everything works great, didn’t have any problems. King size bed and futons are very comfortable. Snorkels, masks and fins are in good shape and there enough for the family of 4. Life vest, sand toys were very handy for our 6-year old. 2 boogie-boards, beach towels, surfboard – we’ve used them all and were very thankful that we didn’t have to bring this stuff with us or rent. Unit has a nice flat screen TV and good library of movies for adults and kids. The place is very neatly decorated, but at the same time you don’t need to worry with kids that they will damage or break anything, everything is very robust. The back and front yards are a big plus, as kids could safely chase lizards for a while, while we are getting ready for a new adventure or resting. Beautiful binder “What to do in Kailua” helped us to find several local hikes and attractions which you will not see in any commercial tourist guides. Tony, Eva and their boys showed great hospitality! From our very first day of arrival, we felt so welcomed there! If we had any questions, Eva and Tony were always ready to answer and help us with any requests. We strongly recommend this place to everybody and if we decide to go back to Oahu, we’ll definitely try to stay in CLAY ART COTTAGE again. Thank you, Eva and Tony for making our vacation so special!

Beautiful, Clean, Quiet & Convenient

This rental made our vacation perfect! The owners were extremely friendly and accomadating. My wife, our daughter & I stayed here for a week and found it to be perfect. The lanai was secluded and well appointed, the living room was spacious as was the well equipped kitchen, and the bedroom and reading nook were beautiful, bright, and extremely relaxing. An outdoor closet packed with beach toys made our stay even more fun. The off-street parking, and A/C were a plus also. Being only a block from the beach & five minutes to downtown Kailua made the location perfect as well. This is a one of a kind rental at an extremely reasonable rate, we will definitely stay here again on our next trip!

Great hospitality and comfortable accommodations...

Date of Stay: 08/09/11 Review Submitted: 10/06/11

Our family of four, (2 adults, a 16 and 19 year old) stayed with Eva and Tony and their family in August. We enjoyed their warm and friendly hospitality, the clean and organized cottage, close proximity to the farmer's market, Kailua town, and the beach (which is within walking distance - parking is not really available near the beach). Eva had also put together a nice notebook full of nearby restaurants, activities(we loved the hike!), and information about Kailua which we used and appreciated. Whenever we needed something, they were happy to oblige. It was our first time staying in Kailua, away from Waikiki, and we really enjoyed having the easy parking, and non-hotel experience in laid back Kailua. Mahalo, Eva and Tony!

Just perfect - The Clay Art Rental!

We had a great stay at this rental as a family of four with two children (8 and 1 yrs old.) The rental is very clean and well equipped and we haven´t missed anything. Kailua itself is a great start point for exploring the whole island of Oahu. The beach of Kailua is very close (walkable, 5 minutes). To Lanikai beach it is a short drive. Eva and Tony were wonderful hosts and very helpful. We would love to come back in the future!

A great home base

Guest: Family from Pasadena (Pasadena)
Date of Stay: 08/23/11 Review Submitted: 08/31/11

We just returned from a one-week stay at the Clay Art rental and found it perfect for our needs. I was originally looking for a two-bedroom place, but the price and description of this one caught my eye. Located in a residential neighborhood a few blocks from the beach, it is, in essence, a well-appointed, large studio apartment. The pictures and written description are accurate (although I'm not sure what is meant by the "1.5 baths." There is one nice bathroom with a large shower and an outdoor shower for rinsing off after the beach). We did not eat any meals other than breakfast here, so I can't speak to the utility of the kitchen, other than to say that it is small but well-stocked (no dishwasher or garbage disposal.) The bed is comfortable and the den worked ok as a sleeping space for our 7 year old. The wifi also worked well. The owners live in the adjacent unit and are quite friendly and helpful. If you plan on spending most of your time exploring the island (as we did), this makes a great homebase at a great price.

Great renatl in Kailua

Date of Stay: 06/05/11 Review Submitted: 07/02/11

Our stay at Clay Art cottage this summer was very enjoyable. The place is very well organized to make your stay very pleasant and not miss anything that is essential for your vacation. It's very clean, the floors are all ceramic tile with beautiful art work, which keeps it extremely clean and easy to maintain. It is very comforting too to watch the decorations around you. The air conditioning is a blessing. The kitchen has all the essentials and the bathroom is very clean with a great shower that never clogs. Our kids enjoyed the big garden and we appreciated that we could park the car in the driveway. The owners are always available to help with anything that you might need. They are so thoughtful to all the details, we were impressed. We found everything we needed for the beach. The house had lots of towels, soap, shampoo, paper towels. I basket with fruits and sweet treats for the kids and a warm welcome letter waited for us on the table. Eva had put together a comprehensive folder with valuable and very detailed and reliable information about local activities, places to shop and eat, and how to operate everything in the house. Her must do suggestions were so helpful, and the places she recommended were local gems that you can't find in any travel books. Location is great, we could walk to Kailua beach or take a short drive to Lanikai beach. The grocery store is very close by. The whole neighborhood is very quiet and pleasant, full of plumeria, mango and papaya trees that we admired every time we walked around or coming back from our adventures around the island. I would recommend this place to any of my friends. We will definitely come here again.

Unique Cottage

Guest: Bruce, Deb & Char (Jacksonville, Oregon)
Date of Stay: 05/24/11 Review Submitted: 06/03/11

From the minute we arrived, we felt welcomed, safe and secure! The cottage was clean, we kept, orderly...it had everything we needed, and nothing that we didn't need. The kitchen was well equipped, including basic cooking essentials. Beds were very comfortable. Loved the close proximity to shopping, restaurants and the beach! Even though Eva and Tony were very busy getting ready for their own trip, they found time to get us familiar with the amenities of the cottage. Kailua has a unique blend of residents with more of a "family focused" atmosphere...with little to none of the commercialism you find in Waikiki. It would be a place we might consider when we retire, and eventually relocate...and we would definately rent the cottage again when returning to Kailua ...and will recommend it to friends. Thanks Eva and Tony for sharing your home with us!

The clay art rental in Kailua was just how it was described. The neighborhood was quiet and charming and the walk to the beach took only 5 minutes. The cottage was perfect for our family of four. It was very clean and nicely decorated. Eva and Tony were the perfect hosts, we had everything from beach towels to beach umbrella's for a day at the beach. The kitchen is well equiped and it was nice to prepare our own meals. We loved Kailua and this wonderful rental and would recommend it to all our friends. Thank you to Eva and Tony for making our stay the perfect family Hawaiin vacation.
