February visit was great

The house was very comfortable and felt much bigger than it was. Great tv/stereo setup and the cd music collection was excellent! Couldn't find the ipod hookup though. Nice area of the Oregon coast to visit, sleepy enough to feel relaxing but still a few shops and restaurants to explore. Thanks!

a decent house

This house is only a short few blocks to the beach - the location is great. And there wasn't anything wrong with the house, per se, but it was a bit quirky. A few examples are, 1. The only way to the hot tub is out the front door then you have to walk to the back side of the house. There weren't any working outside lights so it was completely dark and a major feat to get to the hot tub at night. 2. There were multiple holes in the walls (up high). 3. Most of the light switches had writing on them. 4. The kids bedroom light switch was totally blocked off by a huge TV. 5. The kitchen floor had a pronounced dip. We enjoyed the house though and for the price it worked for us. Owner was easy to work with and promptly returned our security deposit. The house was also very clean.

The cabin was cozy and quiet for us this past weekend. We very much enjoyed the hot tub, and the rubber lobster!!!!! Kitchen was amazing, it had everything that we needed. We had so much fun that we will definitely consider this cabin when we stay in Rockaway again. Thank you very much for having us.

We were pleasantly surprised. This place was comfortable and two blocks from an expansive, gorgeous, sparsely populated beach. Quiet and peaceful, the listing was as described. Thank you so much!

Dear Cooper Family, Thank you so much for sharing your sweet beach cottage with our family. He needed a quiet getaway to bring us together before demanding work projects pull us in 100 ways. Staying here was just what we needed. We enjoyed being so close to the beach where hours of sand castle and driftwood fort building filled our days. The hot tub melted our stress away. The comfy couches and DVD player let us curl up together during the evenings. Thanks

We have never stayed in Rockaway before and it was our 2nd time booking from the VRBO website. I was not optomistic that I could find a place for 4 people and a dog at the last minute. Getting a cabin was a leap of faith because we usually stay in condo's. This place fit all our needs comfortable. I felt a bit nostalgic because the craftsmanship reminds me of an old victorian house I moved into when I first got married in the 70's. We enjoyed the remodel. We loved the birds nest in the tree out back. You don't often get ato see birds in residence up close. The beach is just a hop, skip and jump away. We had great weather while we were here. Loved taking our dog through walks in the neighborhood. This really is a place to unplug and unwind. It seems like a ghost town around us. Very relaxing. Thank you .

Loved the beach, great kitchen and location, but a few issues

Overall we really enjoyed our stay since Rockaway Beach was one of our favourites along the coast and it was great being so close to Twin Rocks. We'll be back but would choose another rental next time. Main issue was communication with the owner - we'd originally booked for May and had to change our dates last minute. I respect all contracts ($50 change fee for less than 30 days notice), so had called and emailed the owner several times a day to confirm the change and send payment for the penalty. Finally after 3 days, he responded with one line "I've changed your dates" and nothing else. Other emails were also one line responses which I find very impersonal after sending someone a detailed friendly message. 3 days after leaving I hadn't heard anything about receiving our damage deposit ($100) back so emailed to ask when it would be sent (any other rental we've stayed at, the owner has emailed the following day to ask how our stay was and return it right away). $50 was deducted (with the Paypal charges billed to me, which I had also paid when originally sending this) for the damage deposit and another one line email, not even asking if we'd enjoyed ourselves. I would have liked to have paid this when I'd asked months earlier and had assumed the owner was sympathetic to our situation at the time and had decided not to charge it so this came as a surprise. This aside - the bedding may be newer, but certainly the beds are not. Propped up by books in the main room and uncomfortable. They likely are propped up to compensate for the floors which are laminate and seem to have no subfloor underneath in many spots so sag when you walk on them and feel like the floor could collapse if the boards were not snapped together. The bathroom has old carpet on the floor which smelled and felt grimy so you did not want to walk on it in bare feet. The tub looks like there is mold rimming the edges between the tile and the tub which is also stained (part of the "clawfoot" character?) Hot tub - We were looking forward to a nice dip to warm up on our first night and when we went to the tub the heat was not even on (I don't know why it would be turned off when someone had been there 2 days before). Also lots of hair and sand so it was pretty gross - seems to get missed as part of the cleaning routine. The 3rd "bedroom" is really the entrance way off the side patio with a futon in it - completely misleading but at least we hadn't planned on anyone staying in it.

Owner response:Renters rescheduled and canceled multiple times. Plumbing and bathroom recently remodeled. Bathroom floor tiled.

What a wonderful honeymoon week. Great Beach combing, great walks, and fresh sea air. WE throughly enjoyed staying at your cabin. Very comfortable. Was wonderful to just soak up the relaxation of the beach and soak each other in on our cabin retreat. Thanks a bunch.

Lovely Family Vacation Memories Made Here

Guest: iheartrockaway (Portland, OR)
Date of Stay: 07/26/10 Review Submitted: 07/31/10

We reserved this home for our family beach vacation and it was a good fit for our family. The location was perfect, with the beach at Twin Rocks just a few blocks away. Nice view of the mountains from the deck when grilling oysters for dinner. The Oregon Coast weather can be unpredictable, but this house was warm and cozy, even on the coolest nights. The kids loved the bunk beds, and there was plenty of room for everyone to relax around the dining room table or in the living room (thanks for 2 couches!). The hot tub was GREAT for the grown-ups, as well. The only downside was no DVD player in the living room, and no iPod docking station as advertised. Oh well, more time to talk with family, and that made this beach trip one of the best. Thank you!

Owner response:There is a DVD player and an ipod hookup.

We enjoyed a fine retreat here. 1st visit here and Rockaway. Wonderful place, very comfortable. Fished Spring Lake twice and 4 person raft. No luck, but great little lake and so close. Plenty of Mosquitos in Valley but here there are none. Surprised. Weather excellent, 90's in PDX- A little fog in AM but Sunny and great ocean swimming. Seafood place south of here was great-Pacific Seafood. Thank you for accomodating us this week. This was a last minute find for us and we felt very lucky to find such a spot as this one, also for our basset hound and 3 1/2 year old grandson. The kids touches here made this so easy and nice for him. Many times our hearts were gladdened by so many little touches found here that we want to thank you for providing a memorable setting for an unforgettable and totally relaxing time.

Couple's getaway, and after a break down in the rain and hail and a call to towing company, we're hauled in to the warmth of this lovely beach house. You can really feel the love of the Cooper family in these walls and it made for such relaxing times. Caught amazing sunsets, sunny mornings having breakfast on the porch (what a great kitchen to cook in), walks on the beach, lazing around watching movies, scrabble in the afternoon sumn, cooking delicious dinners and even squeezing a little work in. Birds are out, daffodils are blooming, spring is definitely here. We needed this relaxing break from Portland and it was perfect! Oh, and the Shell station in Garibaldi too care of the car (timing belt) and even came out to pick us up. Thanks for the ipod hookup and an all-around clean, comfortable and peaceful stay. See you next time

Shell hunting, kite flying, bonfires, relaxing, tide pools, lots of fresh seafood, barbeque, lighthouse, cheese tasting, friendly neighbors, relaxing, swimming, sand castles, fort building, bird watching, relaxing, and ice cream. Thank you so much for the lovely week at your house. We had an awesome time. It was the first time the kids have ever seen the ocean and your beach house made it a memorable one. Great house, great location

Nice, clean, comfortable, baby-friendly house. Very close to the beach, and just a short drive from other great beaches. It fits 4 people comfortably, 6 was a little tight. The owner was very kind and prompt to respond to email and voicemail. We loved the Kite Festival taking place during our visit, we also visited Oceanside for a walk through the cave, and had a wonderful dinner at Roseanna's in Oceanside. I would definitely recommend this house!

What a beautiful Saturday at Rockaway! Who would've thought a trip to the Oregon Coast would garner a sunburn?! Priates Cove was great-we had breakfast and dinner there. Big portions-consider sharing! Cute, comfy house-our boys lover the toys and the dogs liked the yard and outdoor kennel. The neighbors were very personable. We chatted about our puppies and had a pleasant conversation. Happy Spring!
