Why the Owner Chose Borrego Springs
Borrego Springs is a wonderful contrast to our lives in Chicago: it is refreshing to be in a town with no stoplights, no franchise restaurants, no traffic jams! I enjoy both desert and forest / mountain hiking, so we like the access to Cleveland National Forest.
The Unique Benefits at this Home
We love to sit on our back veranda and watch the sun rise and set. We get lots of humming birds, quail, roadrunners and all kinds of song birds.
For a desert hiker Borrego is perfectly situated: we are about 20 minutes from great higher-desert hikes - perhaps 45 off-road minutes from continuous streams - and perhaps an hour or so from badlands / lower desert hikes, including wind caves, mud tunnels, and ancient pictographs.
Owner's Map of Borrego Springs
I have been hiking and backpacking in the American desert for over 30 years now. I had done a lot of backpacking in the "four corners" area, mostly Southern Utah, as well as Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado. Fifteen or 20 years ago I discovered the Anza Borrego area, and have been going back there ever since.
I had introduced my parents to the desert a few years after I became familiar with it, and we all became desert devotees. After my mother passed away my father re-married a woman who coincidentally owned a property in what was then called "Ram's Hill" in Borrego. When my father passed I inherited the place, and have been using it since.
My wife and two little girls have all become major desert enthusiasts. The kids get a lot of use out of the pool near our property, and we all love hiking, off-roading, horse-back riding, and just hanging around the wonderful town of Borrego.
We can't get out to Borrego as often as we like, so we rent the place during the stretches when we cannot use it. We are happy to share our home with others who enjoy the desert country - our renters range from old desert hands, to golfers, to newcomers to the area.
