Kalkan villa description
Villa Florence nestles in the olive groves which overlook the unspoilt village of Kalkan on the Mediterranean. The house has been lovingly furnished using local crafts and materials with just enough personal effects to make you feel at home. It is situated in a beautifully landscaped, private garden, filled with a range of tropical & indigenous plants and boasts a large 40 sq m pool which is completely private and not overlooked. The house has three large bedrooms, four bathrooms, spacious open-plan sitting room with two sofa beds, kitchen/dining area, first floor balcony, veranda and roof terrace. It is air-conditioned throughout and is well equipped with all modern conveniences including satellite TV, DVD, Hi Fi, Playstation 1 and 2 (inc lots of games) and Broadband Internet. Just bring your laptop and you are immediately connected to your high speed internet. Free local calls with house phone. Stand alone water dispenser for endless supply of cool, fresh drinking water.
About Kalkan: The village of Kalkan descends to the sea and picturesque harbour in terraces of white-washed and wooden houses, many boasting ornately carved Ottoman timber balconies, draped in bougainvillaea. Very strict building rules ensure that the village remains small, in tact and unspoilt. The streets and alleyways are a veritable Aladdin's cave - think carpet bazaars, antique shops, ceramic stores, and arty jewellery shops where pieces are custom-made in silver, gold, turquoise and amber.
Sights: Cruises - a day at sea is a must. Take a trip on one of the many Gulet cruises from the harbour and visit stunning secluded coves.
Beaches - Kalkan beach is next to the harbour. It's a pebble beach so the sea is unbelievably clear. Sandy Kaputas beach is 10 mins away while Patara Beach (30 mins away) is regularly voted one of the best beaches in the world.
Ancient Ruins - Kalkan offers easy access to many great classical sites such as Xanthos, Patara, Letoon, Pinara and Tlos
Kalkan's Restaurants: Kalkan is famous throughout Turkey for its roof-top bars and restaurants which offer fabulous views of the harbour, the sea - and at night, the stars. For such a small place Kalkan has an astonishing range of restaurants. You can sit cross-legged on kilims and floor cushions and be served traditional Turkish fare, enjoy freshly-caught seafood at one of the smart harbour side establishments, or feast on the closest thing you'll get to home-cooking at one of the charmingly low-key, back street eateries

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday at Villa Florence in Kalkan. The villa was everything we hoped for, and more. We were more than comfortable and I in particular enjoyed your 'wee oasis' of a garden. The villa was in a good location, with the supermarkets and banks 5 minutes down the hill. The walk up the hill after dinner helped work off our indulgences and we didn't find it too bad. Our young adult daughters enjoyed trying out the many excellent restaurants along with us. Our dining experiences just seemed to get better as the holiday went on. We also enjoyed a few BBQ's at the villa and found this to be inexpensive. Our thanks also to Sedat and his team who looked after us very well and our holiday went without a hitch! We hope to return to Kalkan next year. Thank you for sharing your home in Turkey with us. Kay and Hugh, Scotland

Fabulous Villa Florence
Fabulous Villa Florence
Villa Florence was even better than we thought it would be. So many rented holiday villas feel soulless - not this one. It's so comfortable and homely (although not in a chintzy way), it instantly felt, well, like home. It's nicely decorated, spacious, very clean and well equipped. We 'cooked in' a couple of nights and there was everything we needed. The playstation was extremely popular with our young sons, too. As for that pool. . . Glorious! How good did it feel to walk out of the kitchen and straight crystal clear water! Lying on one of the sun beds, facing the pool my husband noted that the villa looks almost colonial in style. And yes, it does. Love the lush garden and the fact that the villa's not overlooked. It's very classy! Have stayed in quite a few holiday villas over the years but this is by far the best.

We have been visiting Kalkan since 1998 and keep searching for the elusive villa that has everything we need – well, Villa Florence might just be that villa ! From the start communication with Frank was efficient and quick – always a good sign I feel when booking villas. Transfers arranged through Frank and were very good . The villa on arrival was clean, well maintained and had a super welcome pack – some villas don’t do it,but a great touch, and the best one we have had. Kitchen is well equipped, water cooler most welcome, games used and internet access a great feature for us. The villa is spacious, outside space lovely and pool was great – it has a shallow end which we need for our pool games and young son, so as soon as we could it was costumes on and in we went. There is much to do in the area – Patara beach, Xanthos, Letoon, Saklikant Gorge to name a few . We had a boat trip to Kekova which was lovely and then visited the local markets. Kalkan is famed for its restaurants – too many to mention but our favourites this year were Sade , Olive Garden and Alternatif. The village is a 10/15 min stroll down the hill – we walked back a few nights but taxis are cheap if you want one , so to us the hill is not an issue. All in all a great holiday – would highly recommend, and aim to go back – although our preferred week for next year is already booked !.

Owner response: Many thanks for taking the time to write such an extensive review of our villa. It really makes all the difference to us when we know that all the little touches we do to constantly improve things for our guests are appreciated. So sorry that your choice of week has already been taken for next year. That's obviously the downside of having such great reviews!
Perfect villa, perfect location...
Perfect villa, perfect location...
Our 2nd visit to this beautiful villa and definitely not our last! Villa Florence is spacious, clean, homely and well equipped with lots of thought gone into providing additional touches such as beach towels (lighter suitcases!) and a good dvd / cd collection that kept both young and old entertained when needing a little break from the glorious sunshine! The pool was an added bonus, cleaned and maintained every day as well the lovely surrounding garden. And when it got too hot, it was lovely sitting on the swinging chair or lying in the hammock and just chilling in the shade with a good book and a drink! Perfect villa, perfect location - walking distance to all the fantastic restaurants Kalkan has to offer - spoilt for choice - as well as the local beach. Recommend a trip to Saklikent Gorge and Patara beach as well as the fantastic value for money boat trips. Reasonable car hire but also just across the road from the bus garage where you can pick up the local minibus to these destinations. Despite the close proximity, the villa remains quiet and peaceful. Villa Florence is definitely a little gem - a brilliant place from which to explore Kalkan and be enchanted by the friendly locals.

Enjoyable stay in a lovely villa.
Enjoyable stay in a lovely villa.
After a day's travelling we were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived at Villa Florence. The accommodation is very well maintained, bright, spacious and well equipped. Conveniently situated by the bus station, not too far from the local supermarket and a ten minute walk into town a hire car is not necessary. We loved the very private swimming pool surrounded by a lush gardens. These are maintained on a daily basis by very friendly staff. We had one or two small problems with the hot water but these were dealt with immediately and efficiently by the local agent. There are stunning views down to the bay from the top floor where we enjoyed early breakfasts, watching the sun rise over the surrounding hills. We must also comment on the friendliness and helpfullness of the next neighbours. Kalkan is our favourite Turkish resort and we hope to return again soon.

Paradise in the sun
Paradise in the sun
We have been to Kalkan many times, and have stayed in the Villa next door to Villa Florence on a previous visit, so we knew exactly where the villa is and what to expect. I cannot recommend this villa enough, the location is ideal situated at the top of the road from the town, a pleasant walk down in the evening, stopping for a drink or two at some of the many bars, before choosing from the multitude of fantastic restaurants in Kalkan. I would not recommend walking back, as the hill is a bit much in the heat, but a taxi is easily available and very inexpensive. During the day the villa is perfect, a lovely large pool in a well maintained garden, plenty of poolside furniture and umbrellas. The nearest supermarkets are 5 min gentle stroll away, and stock everything you are likely to need. The centre of Kalkan a further 5 min or so, where you can find narrow shop and restaurant lined streets winding down to the harbour, with yet more shops and restaurants. Would I go to Franks villa again, you bet I would, I tried to book again for next year, but it was already booked for the weeks we are on holiday, so we have booked one two doors away this time. Kalkan is for me and my family the perfect summer holiday, we have stayed in several local villas, and this is the nicest location with the best villas in town, we will return again and again. Frank is a nice chap to deal with, and did everything he could to make our stay a good one, thank you Frank for sharing your home with us, hope to visit again sometime soon. Helen, Nick and Carl

2 Family holiday - Dove and Whitenead
2 Family holiday - Dove and Whitenead
Our first Villa holiday. No more Hotels from now on! Arrangements by Frank, the owner, made the booking and transfer arrangements so easy. Everything went like clockwork. The Villa was perfect. Plenty of room for the 7 of us and the air con was a welcome respite from the sun. So relaxing and the ideal place to unwind and recharge the batteries. The pool area had lots of welcome shady areas and the pool itself was so inviting! Kalkan is such a welcoming place. The local people were really friendly and the restaurants plentiful. The Akin restaurant was our favourite with lovely views over the harbour. The local supermarkets had everything you could possibly need and there was always a taxi waiting for you to take you back up the hill. 5 Lira, less than £2, was well worth it!! It was the most relaxing holiday we have ever had and we can't wait to return. Thank you Frank. You have a truly fantastic Villa.

Owner response: Thanks so much for taking the time to send in your review Robert. It makes all the difference to us to know that the villa is being looked after in our absence and that all the facilities are working as they should. Very pleased to also hear that transfers and all arrangements went like clockwork.
First time in Kalkan for our family (2 adults and 2 teenagers, 17 and 15). The villa is fabulous and Frank goes out of his way to make sure everything is organised for you. Villa was very clean, fresh towels and bedding. Kalkan has everything to offer, very friendly people, great restaurants (too many to list but never had a bad meal) but our favourites were Kaya with an amazing magician and so friendly, Corner and White Table.Lots to do or just chill out around the pool at the villa. Nice walk down to the town but like a few reviewers have said a taxi back up the hill is worthwhile especially when it's so hot. The taxis are cheap too. We would definately go back to Kalkan and hopefully be able to book Frank's villa and would recommend to anyone!
