Our beach house is located in Kiahuna Plantation at Poipu Beach on the south shore of Kauai. The southern part of the island is known for sunny days and great breezes and Kiahuna is considered the area’s premier beach-front rental property because it is the only one in Poipu with its own sandy beach.
The condo's architecture is reminiscent of Hawaii's 19th-century plantation past and provides the classic Hawaiian setting for your stay on the island. The buildings at Kiahuna are nestled in 35 acres of sprawling lawns, lush tropical gardens, lily ponds, a private lagoon and the largest orchid garden in Hawaii.
Our condo #123 is on the top floor of Building 18, which is located between the beach and the swimming pool/tennis courts. As you'll see in the photos, it was completely renovated using top of the line finishes including granite counters, travertine tile and bamboo flooring as well as all new appliances, cabinetry, lighting and furniture. The walls were removed between the kitchen and living room to create an open floor plan so you have unobstructed views of the ocean. All the rooms have louvered windows and doors which lets the breeze pass right through and there are ceiling fans in the bedroom and living area that also keep it cool and comfortable.
As soon as you walk in the door you have a great view straight through the condo to the ocean. On the left is the bedroom with a king-size bed, TV, dressers and closet and on the right is the bathroom with a big walk-in shower and a separate vanity area. The living, dining and kitchen are in one large vaulted space that opens to the lanai. The kitchen is fully furnished and is great for preparing anything from fresh papaya for breakfast to fancy umbrella drinks and gourmet dinners.
One of the best parts of the condo is the covered lanai that runs the whole width of the beach house. There are over 15 feet of glass doors and windows that open to the lanai from the living area. The lanai is furnished with a bar-height table and chairs so you have a wide, open view of the ocean and grounds. It also has two lounge chairs which are a perfect place to relax, read and listen to the surf.
The advantage of staying in this unit is that the ceiling is vaulted to 14 feet high which makes the condo airy and open, and at night you can use the screen doors on the lanai to enjoy the ocean breezes while you sleep – something you can’t do in a ground floor unit. It’s also nice because you don’t have the noise of another unit above you so it feels like a private retreat.
Kiahuna’s beach is a quick walk through the beautifully landscaped grounds. There is a manicured lawn dotted with palm trees fronting the beach and that is where you will find the Beach Hut where you can get complimentary beach chairs and towels. The Hut also offers snacks and rentals of various beach toys that you can charge to your room. The beach is fairly private and it is used mostly by people staying at Kiahuna. It connects to Poipu Beach which has more activity and good snorkeling. Poipu was rated #1 by The Travel Channel and has been chosen as one of the most beautiful beaches in America.
We provide on-site management, staffed 24 hours a day. You check in like a hotel, and the friendly staff is always available to assist you in any way. The concierge at the Activities Desk is a great resource to help with ideas, directions and reservations for anything from dinner to helicopter tours, sunset cruises, tee times (at one of many nearby golf courses), horseback rides or luaus.
There are a number of great restaurants that are just a 5 minute walk from #123. On the Kiahuna grounds is the historic plantation manager’s cottage built in 1930 that now houses the Plantation Gardens Restaurant and right across the street is Roy’s Poipu Bar and Grill as well as some other restaurants and shops that offer everything you could possibly need for your time on Kauai.
We love Kauai and we looked for a long time to find a place that we would want to return to year after year. #123 is that perfect place and we hope you consider it home too.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week's stay in this tastefully appointed unit. Dean and Paul's special touches included a modern granite kitchen and a 14-foot vaulted ceiling in the living area. Third (top) floor assured no "footprint" noise from above, and we could leave our sliding door and windows open day and night for the pleasant cross-breezes. We especially enjoyed morning coffee and sunset rum drinks on the ocean-view lanai. Josselin's is our new favorite restaurant (tapas style, several small courses to choose from and share). Living Foods provided much of our in-house dining needs. Both are located in the new shopping center on the opposite side of the roundabout. Wednesday afternoon there is a great farmer's market in the mall's courtyard - lots of fresh local greens and a wide variety of tropical fruits. A very short stroll to Poipu Beach, one of the finest with wide stretches of white sand and the gentle, warm Pacific Ocean. The Beach Hut provided fresh towels and chairs each day for a more comfortable beach day. We're already planning next year's trip to this wonderful condo!

What a beautiful condo and gorgeous resort spot. We were blown away when we arrived. The pictures do not encapsulate the vibe of this place. My husband & I came for a 2nd honeymoon/1 year anniversary and had such a great time. The condo was so comfortable and peaceful. And beautifully decorated and furnished. The staff at the resort were so cheerful and helpful. And only there if needed or wanted which is nice. We got a chance to renew our wedding vows Hawaiian style in a small ceremony, it was complimentary for us as guests. It made our trip very memorable. We really enjoyed having the beach right there. It really is the best beach on Kauai. It was hard to stay out of that ocean. The restaurants, the shops, and the grounds on and around this plantation are top notch. Everything was well maintained and clean. The owners were gracious and helpful. They provided the best spots to check out on the island. My husband is used to me picking and planning our getaways and he is not always easy to please. He said "honey, you did really good!" We definitely recommend stopping by the Costco when you get to the airport in Lihue as it helped keep our expenses down. When we come back to Kauai next year, there is no other place we would rather stay.

We have visited the Hawaiian Islands many times however this was our first experience at renting a condo thru VRBO and what a great experience it was. Dean, one of the owners was extremely pleasant to deal with, answered all our emails promptly and made the whole process hassle free. The condo is simply beautiful, it has been renovated to a very high standard with granite counters, bamboo flooring, plantation shutters and beautiful furnishings. Each morning we ate breakfast on the lanai, took in the wonderful atmosphere, great view of the ocean and lushly landscaped gardens. The location was great, close to lovely beaches and a short walk to Poipu Shopping Centre. The units are all nestled amongst the lushly landscaped grounds which the ground staff do a wonderful job of maintaining. There is also a large manicured lawn in front of the beach which is great for grabbing a couple of beach chairs and just relaxing under the palm trees. We love hiking so on this trip we also did the following hikes, Pihea Trail in Waimea Canyon, Hanakapia Falls on the Kalalau Trail and the Maha'ulepu Cliff Trail. Kauai is truly an awesome place to visit and this unit is the only place to stay. Thanks Dean and Paul for allowing us to share your little piece of paradise, we will definately be back!!

This is a great condo and great value for the money. It has got to be one of the most beautiful and comfortable condos in the complex. The unit has a very good view of the ocean, and a great deck to view it from. The condo is very clean and bright and well equipped. The owners are extremely pleasant to deal with and very accommodating. The complex seems like it is run very well and everyone we dealt with was friendly and courteous. This was our first tropical vacation and what a spot it was. The pictures that are shown do not do the Condo justice. From the moment you open the door and see the view of the Ocean it just keeps getting better. Everything is first class starting with the marble countertops, beautiful furniture, pictures and Tim even liked the reading material. Everyday the grounds crews were taking care of lawns and beautiful flowers everywhere. Dean made this process so simple and included so many things to do and great restaurants to enjoy. We did the Tropical Gardens at Allerton, poipu village shopping, Koloa town , snorkeling and tried Keoki's Paradise and Plantation Garden restaurants. We want to thank you for sharing your little piece of paradise. I will definately recommend your Condo to all my friends and Tim and I cannot wait to return. Kathy

We knew we made the right decision the second we stepped inside this amazing condo. As the previous poster stated, this was one of the best vacations that we have ever had. This condo has been beautifully refurbished and we were extremely pleased with every aspect of it. The decor was very luxurious and tastefully done and beautiful tropical theme. The views from the lanai were spectacular! Everything from the granite counter tops, to the bamboo flooring, to the lighting and pictures, and the plantation style shutters really made us feel very comfortable. The pictures don't do it justice. I am so glad we chose to stay here rather than one of the larger hotels because it was so spacious, clean, and it really is charming and felt like home. The condo felt very private and gave us easy access to the parking lot, restaurants, and shops. We really appreciated walking through the beautiful grounds to the beach. It was so quiet and peaceful. Some of our favorite places to eat were right across the street which were Joe's on the Green for breakfast, Roy's Bar and Grille and Keokis Paradise for dinner. The owners of this condo were very friendly and extremely easy to deal with and we did not have any problems making the transaction. The condo had everything you could possibly need including cooking utensils and wireless internet which was a major plus. We were in heaven the entire time. The Outrigger staff was also extremely friendly, helpful and very accommodating. It did take a little time getting used to the chickens and birds which are all over every square inch of the island, but that is part of what we love about Kauai. The beach was breathtaking and we spent plenty of time hanging out there enjoying the scenery. We loved this condo and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to relax and in true paradise. I can not say enough good things about this place. Six nights was way too short and next time we will definitely stay longer. It was very hard to leave and we can not wait to go back! Thanks again Dean and Paul for sharing your home with us and helping us have an incredible stay on Kauai.

This condo is great! It has been beautifully renovated with granite countertops, wood floors, and plantation shutters so it is really comfortable and charming (an updated Hawaiian plantation-style feel). We liked the openness of the floor plan and vaulted ceilings because it kept the condo cool AND gave it a nice airy feeling. The lanai is big and has a great view of the ocean. We liked that it was covered because one day when the weather was less than perfect, we could still sit out there & enjoy the ocean and tropical landscaping, and then once the weather cleared a quick 2 minute walk got us to the beach. Nights were so peaceful & quiet we slept really well. Big comfy bed and the kind of deep sleep you only have from being totally relaxed and on vacation. Dining at nearby Josselin's on thai shrimp bisque, wasabi salmon roll & the coffee smoked pork was a highlight. All in all this was a perfect stay. (It was so hard to leave that we went ahead and already booked the condo again for next year....)

Sunshine and 80 Degree Weather for 2 Weeks!

The condo was nicely appointed with just about everything you need including a comfortable lanai and pleasant view of the ocean. The open-air style of the property kept it cool in the evening but took some getting use to the outside noices from neighbors and the street. We live in a rural part of town so probably more sensitive to street noice then most (somewhat sleep deprived the first week of our stay - next time we will use ear plugs or the noice machine which wasn't discovered until later in our stay). Spent alot of time at the beach in front of the property which is only a short walk from the condo. We thought this beach was better than the more advertised Poipu and Brenneke beaches! Use of the washer/dryer in the condo would have been nice (if available) since we were there for two weeks. All in all, a great stay in Kauai with sunshine and 80 degree weather for 2 weeks!

Adapting to a new time zone or location always poses a challenge for even the most seasoned traveler. We are glad that you discovered the small fans on the night stands in the bedroom because they do help provide soothing white noise and additional air circulation if needed. One of the great things about Kiahuna Plantation is that everyone is friendly and at night Kiahuna’s team are walking the grounds to ensure that a serene environment is always maintained. We are glad you liked the beach at Kiahuna too, the staff at the Beach Hut are very helpful. (It's common to overhear them giving snorkeling lessons or other beach tips). Having the towels + beach chairs provided makes it feel really private and you don't have to hunt for space like at Brenneke's. The laundry facilities at Kiahuna are terrific because they are close by and have a lot of machines so we can get everything done quickly. In addition, the Kiahuna staff keeps the laundry room immaculate. We are glad you enjoyed your visit and hope to see you again soon.
