Quiet, secluded waterfront property on Port Madison Bay, Washington near Hood Canal (and just north of Bainbridge Island) offers an island-like experience of the Sound within easy striking distance of Seattle. This tastefully furnished 1900 plus square foot, vacation home is perched on a seaside bluff, offering a spectacular panoramic view of the Puget Sound, Mt. Rainier and snow-capped Olympic Mountains. Bald eagles frequently can be seen atop the trees in the backyard.
The home is recent construction with large view deck, hardwood floors and a vaulted ceiling, which creates an open, airy feel. It can accommodate up to five adults easily. The fully-equipped kitchen has a built-in microwave and island counter space. The kitchen and dining area is oriented towards the water so that you can enjoy the view while preparing and eating your meals. The upstairs contains master bedroom and bath and large play/sleeping loft, both with large windows overlooking the water. Downstairs has large children's room (bunkbed and sleeper sofa) and guest room (queen bed), also with a water view. Easily sleeps seven. The living room features a fireplace/woodstove with slate hearth; window walls afford a full 180 degree view of the water and mountains. Spacious lawn, deck, and bedrooms offer play space for children. Additional amenities include satellite TV, gas BBQ and washer-dryer.
The house overlooks a sheltered bay that is great for beachcombing, swimming, sailing, water-skiing, kayaking, and fishing. Groceries, cafe, and other basic amenities within walking distance. Plenty of restaurants, an 18-hole golf course, cultural attractions, and activities close by. A short wooded trail from the property provides easy access to the beach below.
There are beautiful walks and hikes right from the front door; there is very little automobile traffic in the entire area. The nearby Indianola Country store is a 12-15 minute walk and is the central meeting place for all the town. It has all the basics, plus espresso, deli take-out, a small cafe area, and DVD/video rentals. The New York Times or local papers can be reserved at the store.
Only one other house is visible from our home, which is surrounded by acres of wooded area and little development. The house lies on the edge of a small town, Indianola, which has served as a vacation retreat for Seattle area residents since the 1920's. The town offers the best of both worlds: It has a tranquil, village-like atmosphere, yet it is less than 15 minutes to the ferry and within 20-25 minutes of larger population centers with a range of attractions, shopping, and other amenities.
Historic Poulsbo (20 minutes), with its many galleries, artisan shops, ethnic restaurants and picturesque waterfront is a major tourist destination. The area is also a convenient point of departure for exploring Port Townsend, Whidbey Island and the Olympic National Forest. A new 18-hole golf course is 5 minutes away and public tennis courts are 10 minutes. For guests interested in more urban exploration, Seattle is also an easy day-trip via the Bainbridge Island (Winslow) ferry (30 minutes away), which docks in downtown Seattle. Bainbridge also offers great restaurants, speciality shops, galleries,golf and cultural events year-round.

- No Pets Allowed: In general, no pets are allowed. Occasional exceptions may be made for a small dog at owner's discretion.
- Kid Friendly: Children are welcome, but children must be supervised at all times owing to location on bluff and loft construction of upstairs. Chicken wire fencing and dense vegetation act as a barrier to edge of bluff in most places, but a persistant and adventurous child could get past these barriers.
- Minimum Age Limit for Renters: The renter (and other guests who are not related to the renter) must be at least 25 years of age. The house can accommodate 4-5 adults/teens, owing to septic requirements.
