We would definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives! The owners responded to our questions promptly via email. It was clean and well-maintained~the photos reflected the appearance and availability of amenities, and the listing description was accurate regarding the location (loved that it was off the beaten path). We loved the "at home" / cozy atmosphere that was provided (especially the fireplace!). Hot tub was clean and ready for our use. There were deer roaming the property in the early morning/late evening~and got to watch as sail-rs crossed the sky at the beach. The entire stay simply awesome!

We stayed for an extended weekend and the place was great! Two bedrooms, kitchen with everything you need and our favorite: the hot tub. Great value and perfect for a family or group of friends. Phil was great to deal with and we will definitely be back!

This was our first time to Gearhart and for us, we liked it even better than Cannon Beach for a couple of reasons primarily. And that is the privacy and peacefulness. We have a Golden Retriever (just 4 months) who had the time of her life down at the beach. Granted, we were there during the week in April, but we had so much privacy it was wonderful. She was off leash almost the entire time. She just had a blast as did we - I know, we're into our dog!! The walk to the beach through the grass dunes is very nice in itself. It actually looks like a longer walk in the photos than what it is. It only takes about 5 minutes. There is a bald eagle that sits on one of the poles at the top of the beach (you can see it from the cabin) every morning. My wife and dog got to within about 25 ft of it. Another morning he was there for over 2 hours before finally flying off. Seaside is just 5 minutes down the road and Cannon Beach is around 15 to 20 minutes or so. Gearhart is very peaceful. We saw elk, deer, hawks and of course the bald eagle. To be completely fair to everybody, the home is very modestly furnished. Don't expect a 5 star hotel furnishings but that is probably part of the reason why it's priced as fairly as it is. For us, we didn't care. It was great for our dog and us. We enjoyed the hot tub and the deck out in front as well. And the owner, Phil, is great to work with. They live close by in case you have any questions.

Since we have kids and a dog, we always look for places that are clean and cozy but not stuffy. We don't want to feel like we have to walk around on eggshells but we don't want to stay in a dive, either. This cottage is perfect. It was clean, comfy and inviting, and if we had a place at the beach, we would want it to be just like this. While there were neighbors, it felt very private and peaceful. We loved the open living area, easy beach access and the hot tub. We definitely want to stay here again, with and without the kids.

Phil and Kirsten were so easy to deal with! The cottage was a lot bigger than we thought it would be and very clean. We felt at home right away. Nothing fussy and very comfortable. A short walk over the dune rewarded us with sweeping views of the ocean and a wonderful sand beach perfect to take a long walk on.

My husband and our two dogs enjoyed a wonderful getaway in this comfy cottage. The open floor plan and windows provide a lot of light - the living room has comfortable chairs; especially liked the nooks next to the fireplace. The kitchen is fully stocked and overall the cottage is neat and tidy with everything you could possibly need. We will definately be back and will stay longer than just two nights. Thank you Phil for your kind hospitality and for sharing this wonderfule place with us.

Despite houses on either side of this home - it felt as though we had our own personal house at the beach. The house was much larger than anticipated and very homey. The deck was very relaxing and it literally felt like a home away from home. The owners were extremely nice and when we checked in with them on the phone they made us feel very welcome and were very clear that if we had any problems or needed anything, they would be there (we didn't need a thing!). The beach is absolutely beautiful and we only wish we had more time to stay. If you are looking for a place that is comfortable, welcoming and peaceful - this is it. Thank you for letting us and our dogs (who were absolutely and wonderfully exhausted at the visit) stay at your home. PS - Highly recommend McMenamins at the Sand Trap. Great food

This lovely house was perfect for us - right on the beach dunes, great uncrowded beach, and we made excellent use of the hot tub. Our son (6 years old) and dog LOVED it and we all will definitely be back. The listing and photos are all perfectly accurate, and the house was clean and cozy. We live in another beach community and just wanted to get away for a couple of nights, and this was PERFECT. We will be back! Thanks for sharing your house!

We stayed at this house for a winter weekend and it was perfect -- very cozy despite the chill and the hot tub was a perfect way to warm up! Scenic stroll to the beach and around the neighborhood. Would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I stayed here right after Thanksgiving last year (2010). The owner was very welcoming and was just finishing cleaning when we arrived. I mention that fact because one of my major complaints was how dirty the stove, oven and pots/pans were. I ended up having to clean before I felt comfortable using things. The other disappointment can be summed up by saying "furnished by Good Will." We have used VRBO on a number of occasions and had come to expect a high standard. That coupled with the fact that the property makes an issue out of the fact that this is a gated community we had assumptions about the quality of the property. Furniture is highly worn/torn; some was broken; nothing in the kitchen, bathrooms or bedrooms matched; there wasn't a lighter for the woodstove; there was no flashlight (really at the beach?); a couple lightbulbs needed to be replaced. On the positive side, the hot tub was great, getting in and out of the gate was easy, there was wild life (deer) and the yard was great. That said, we get precious little time off and we will not stay here again.
Owner response: I guess it was bound to happen. This is the first bad review that we have had in 5 years. We have had nothing but great comments in all that time. We will take it as a wake up call and fix the things that are mentioned. I suggest that the party needs to look for a more expensive place than ours and I'm sorry that they didn't let me know that they had problems at the time. We live nearby and can help with anything that comes up.

The house was just as described, the photos were accurate, the owners were incredibly easy to work with. The beach access was an easy walk to a beautiful, not crowded, sandy haven. Because of the hot tub, we didn't care what the weather was like because we could always get back and warm up. The open yard had privacy fencing to make it feel like a private get away. Getting to Seaside and Cannon Beach (Mo's Restaurant!!!) is a short drive away, or a long walk down the beach! But when you're tired of the crowds you can escape to the house and feel miles away from everyone.

My husband and I (early thirties) stayed at the beach house for 4 nights in mid-May. The house itself was very clean, spacious, and comfortable, and the location was perfect! In a quiet and safe gated community, the house is a short walk across the dunes to the beach. We also got to enjoy the hot-tub, deck and huge back yard (perfect for our dog!). Surfing is possible at the beach right out front (if the tide is right), and we had lots of fun boogieboarding! It was especially nice to have a hot-tub to come home to. We enjoyed taking a short drive to Seaside and Cannon Beach (more surf spots there as well), and even found a couple really need artisan shops in Gearhart. The owners of the beach house are very friendly and easy-going - we were able to book our trip with ease, and they made check-in and check-out very simple. Overall, it was a wonderful getaway - a perfect mix of relaxation, fun, and adventure. We only wished we could have stayed longer! We will certainly be returning - hopefully soon!

We found this home to be the perfect beach house for a comfortable, relaxing, and enjoyable vacation. Location, building layout, furnishings and amenities, all are exactly what we would have chosen for ourselves. Loved the hot tub, enjoyed the BBQ, would have used the deck more but the weather was a little uncooperative so we had fun watching the eagles and hawks from the comfort of the living room with two (!) deep comfortable window seats flanking the fireplace. The beach was fabulous, a comfortable walk over the dune and down to a huge, long long beach where you can drive but only a couple of trucks a day were there. We introduced our new dog to the ocean and enjoyed our long walks enormously. Friendly, helpful owners, thank you so much! It was a delightfully private 43rd wedding anniversary celebration which we will remember with much happiness.

We (1 couple) spent 3 very relaxing nights (two great days) in this cottage. Reading, writing and catching up. Ideal. Super quiet. Place was very clean, nicely decorated and amenities excellent. Very helpful for us to have wireless internet. The walk out to the ocean is great. Ideal with our medium sized dog too. Owners easy to communicate with. Would work great for 2 couples or a small family.

We're in love with this place. The cottage is warm, cozy, clean and well stocked, the hot tub is placed perfectly so you enjoy the view whether it's raining or not. The five minute walk to this gorgeous part of the coast is the perfect walk for humans and dogs. The best perk is the wildlife - you can watch bald eagles from the living room window and the elk and deer come right up to the deck! We bought fresh shellfish in Seaside at a place called Bill's Bouey (I recommend it!) and came back to the cottage and cooked it all up on the generous barbecue. For three days we never left our lovely, temporary home. We've rented many places, but no more. We will come to stay in this place over and over, whenever we get the chance to get out of town - and if you guys ever look at selling it, contact me first!!

We stayed for a week with my 85 year old parents. The house was clean and had everything that we needed. The wood stove was nice and was used every night. The path to the beach area was mowed and made for easy walking. Daily we had deer in the yard and a Red Tailed Hawk that seemed to show up just about any time somebody was looking outside. This is a great get-a-way. Thanks for letting us use your home..! Gary and Rose

We just spent our son's first birthday at the cottage and were pleasantly surprised with the peace and serenity that we found. The cottage was very comfortable and cozy. However, our favorite thing was being able to barbeque and relax on the back deck and soak in the hot tub as we listened to the ocean and watched the sunsets settle over the long grassy slope to the beach. We we looking to relieve some stress and were definately able to do so. This was our first visit to a beach house and would absolutely recommend this house to others. The owners were great to work with and we look forward to our next visit!

This is a great place to stay. VRBO houses are the best. We spent two nights in Yachats at a more expensive and ordinary spot right on the highway, and then ended up here for two nights of great beach house. House was clean and homey. Very nice place to visit with dogs, very safe with the gigantic backyard. The razor clamming was terrific and easy to get to from the house. Very quiet and private. Nice fireplace and hot tub. Great experience.

My husband, three kids and I just had a lovely stay at this Surf Pines cottage. The house has everything you need, is a perfect size, very comfortable, nicely maintained. We cooked all our meals in the kitchen, took long walks on the beach (just a couple minutes from the house), and we drove to Astoria for fun several times. We just can't recommend this house enough!

This house was really clean and everything worked great. Our group was 6 adults and 1 infant. We really liked the area including the pine lined streets in the very quiet gated community. The beach was very nice and practically deserted with the exception of some 4 wheel drive vehicles. Major stores where only around 5 miles away.
