TOWN:
Villefranche-sur-Mer is in a village in the heart of the Cote d'Azur (between Cannes and Monaco). Created in 1295 by Charles II d'Anjou, this village has kept its picturesque charm with the progression of the centuries. The bold colors of Mediterranean-style homes, the small and steep streets, and the lack of cars in the old village will bring to mind times past while offering the finest of modern cuisine, art, and scenic views. Villefranche-sur-Mer is blessed with a Mediterranean climate; mild in winter and very warm in summer.

LOCATION:
Built in 1700 and fully remodeled in 2006, this apartment is in picturesque Villefranche-sur-Mer. This flat is ideal for spending a relaxing week exploring the French Riviera. Artists and writers such as Cocteau, Volti, and Goetz have flocked to this seaside village to be inspired by its scenic views and slower pace of living.

CENTRALLY LOCATED:
From the apartment, it is only a 30-minute drive west to the Nice International Airport and a 30-minute drive east to the Italian border town of Ventimiglia. It is a 15-minute drive/bus/train ride to the city of Nice and 15 minutes to the country of Monaco. The city of Villefranche-sur-Mer is accessible by train and the station is a five-minute walk from the apartment.

    • This was my first France and European visit and one of the big ‘0’ birthdays for me. After 3 days in Paris we took the fast train to Nice and transferred to the local 10-minute Ventimille train ride to Villefranche-sur-Mer. The flat could accommodate a small family, but this trip, it was just my husband and myself so it felt like our own little home in a terrific Cote d’Azur location ~ a block or two away from to fine and casual dining – pizza, Asian, Mediterranean and more; gelato, a small grocery store, patisserie, and a chartucerie are nearby and a small morning farmer’s market too. The kitchen is very well equipped if you want to cook and eat in. The beach and train station are within a short walking distance. We did not rent a car on this trip as the train and convenient buses took us everywhere we wanted to explore on this week stay. I hope to be a visitor again soon to the delightful Cote d’Azur and this charming home and location. Thank you Erin ~ our trip was super in every way. It was so easy to plan with your help. I will always remember this special time.

    • The apartment in Villefranche-sur-mer was a wonderful spot for our recent vacation. It was 3 girls in the flat and felt like there was space for 8! It felt nothing like a French hotel....the beds were comfy, the television with DVD player (and some dvds left there) was nice (and had a few english channels), the kitchen was great (cooked one meal, bought packs of cokes and waters to chill to save on the ridiculously high prices, kept leftovers), the wineglasses were used up often and cleaned in dishwasher, the beach accessories saved us money (balls, floats, parasols, etc), the 2nd toilet was great (though one shower was the one downside and rate-limiting factor to getting ready), and the air conditioning was a gift from God in the August heat! The town is safe, with a great beach, and picturesque. The location was wonderful, allowing us half-day to day-long excursions to St. Jean-Cap-Ferrat (the ville Ephrussi is amazing, gardens a must-see!), Nice, Cannes, Antibes, St. Raphael, Vintamiglia (in Italy...has huge open air market every friday till 3 or 4 in the summer), Monaco (must do the Casino), and Eze-le-village (so quaint yet so cool). I only wish we could stay more than 10 days to get a chance to take a boat to Corsica, or venture further into Italy. Another time for sure. The owners bent over backwards and were very patient in helping us schedule and pay for the trip. We look forward to heading back in the future...and plan to strongly consider trips to their other destinations just to use their homes. I genuinely recommend this to anyone planning to travel to the south of france. Only warning is that the stairwell is not for people using canes or walkers....but was one of the funnest parts! So unique! And one piece of advice....try "Le Grignotiere" down the Rue Obscure. Has a wonderful duck, great foie gras, and fabulous garcons (and chefs!). Being serenaded by troubadours in front of the restaurant was a highlight for sure!

    • Staying in Villefranche was a wonderful experience. We loved, loved it and the flat was everything we had hoped for. We especially appreciated the air conditioning and the washer and dryer. We must warn about the steps leading up to the flat but if you are up to the challenge it is so worth it!! We hope to be back sooner than later.

    • UNBELIEVABLE PLACE! Even better than the photos! We could not believe how big it was, how cozy, clean, welcoming, close to everything, QUIET, and just the best place to stay in Villefranche sur Mer! We kept saying over and over how thankful we were that we booked this place. We are going back to this place FOR SURE!

    • A beautifully appointed apartment on a quiet street in the Vielle Ville. The rooms are spacious, very comfortably and completely furnished. Best of all, the place was very, very clean (big deal for me). Tired travelers when we arrived, we felt very welcome and well cared-for (the complimentary bottle of wine waiting for us was soothing, indeed). Everything was just as advertised. We loved walking around the old town, heading to the bakery first thing in the day for provisions and generally soaking up the life of this picturesque village. We made all our arrangements online, for the booking, deposits and security. If this gives you pause, our experience is that the owners of this apartment were responsive, timely and people of their word. I would gladly work with them again to arrange a vacation rental. Villefranche provides the best of both worlds: easy access by bus to Nice and other urban locations and the pleasures of a small village set in a more secluded cove. Don't miss the perched villages just north of Nice.

    • "Myself and my long suffering husband spent a 4 day break in Villefranche sur mer in early May. The photos on the website are very accurate and the place is spotless and excellently furnished. This apartment offers the best of both worlds. Situated close to the waterfront in the old town, it has neither the noise of traffic nor the bluster of the great restaurants on the waterfront. Yet, the beach and these same restaurants are just a stones throw away. We landed at Nice airport and got the 98 bus and 80 bus the V'franche and were 35 minutes in transit. The local train station (with its magical train ride thru' Cannes, Antibes, Monaco) are 3 minutes from your door. A perfect place for a car-less trip to this wonderful area- without the headache of parking. The owners are really helpful and the whole experience was very pleasant adding to great break away. Highly recommended!

    • I’m a little late posting this. Our family of five visited Germany, France & Italy this past June 2008. The week we spent in Villefranche was the most relaxing and enjoyable leg of our journey by far. Spent a few days at the beach just soaking it all in – pretty easy walk & the kids couldn't get enough time in the clean, clear, warm water. We started each day walking left from the flats entrance a few steps to take in the spectacular view of the harbor; then off to the bakery or butcher etc. to pick up the fresh local offerings. Used the very functional kitchen quite a bit and everything worked well. Plenty of room for the five of us. The beds were comfortable and the dining area, laundry, wireless Internet & television were convenient and user friendly. The location proved to be a great pivot point for our day trips to Monaco, then Nice and other points west. So glad we chose this apartment in Villefranche over much larger and impersonal locations like Nice and Monaco. Villefranche is really a magical place and we look forward to coming back to this great apartment.

    • We spent Christmas 2008 in Villefranche sur mer. Great location, clean, well equiped. Perfect for 2 adults and 2 kids. We got lucky with bright weather. Walk to everything from this apartment - beach, bakery, grocery, restaurants. Highly recommend this apartment and location in picture perfect village. Owner and property manager a pleasure to deal with. Great service everything ran smoothly.

    • We couldn't be happier with our stay here - the location was perfect! Villefranche is beautiful and romantic and with the train station just a 5 minute stroll away that can whisk you to all the sights of the French Riviera, who could ask for more? Be forewarned though, you may never want to leave! If you should decide to venture out though, after a busy day of sightseeing, it was lovely to retire to a clean, comfortable flat with all the comforts of home. Our host could not have been more gracious, answering all our questions about the region and offering great travel tips of her own. There is also a property manager locally in case you have a problem with anything (we didn't). We can't wait to return, and hope to do so soon and often.

    • We just got back from spending two wonderful weeks in France, one in Ville Franche-sur-mer and the other in Paris. Our stay in the south was incredible. The apartment was exactly what we wanted. Situated in a small village, yet close to all the attractions. The apartment was clean, modern, spacious and well equiped. Located on a quiet pedestrian street, yet close to the beach and local shops and restaurants - it was a perfect location. Having a kitchen really helped, especially with breakfast. It was also nice to have the DVDs so that we could unwind after a day of sight seeing. The AC was useful a couple of nights when it was a little hot. Living with the locals was so much more enjoyable that staying at a hotel. We rented a car, and there was no problem finding parking at the citadel or on the street just behind. The location was perfect for day trips around this part of France. I'd highly recommend this rental. What a wonderful trip.
