Location: East Glacier Park, Glacier National Park, Montana, USA (3 miles West of East Glacier Park Montana.)

Accommodations:  House, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths (Sleeps 6-8)

Construction of the H4 House was begun in 1983 and completed over the years as we raised a family and enjoyed life in the East Glacier area. Although we miss the East Side of Glacier, we now live in Whitefish Montana and offer our East Glacier home to those visiting Glacier Park. Entering our fourth year as a vacation home, we have learned what is important to make your stay comfortable and convenient and would be happy to have you as our guests during your visit to Montana.

Three bedrooms with queen beds and great views will give a peaceful end to your day and brighten the start of the next one. An air bed is also available in a sleeping area off the master bedroom. Sit in the living room with your morning coffee and view Lubeck Ridge, Calf Robe Mountain, Firebrand Pass and the occasional deer, moose, coyotes, elk and bear that make the area their home. Expansive south and west facing windows give you an incredible view that makes our part of the state such a special place. A fully equipped kitchen lets you plan meals at home or dine out at one of the local restaurants. Everything down to the salt and pepper shakers is here for you, but if you have a special request, let us know and we'll work on it.

The deck on the west and north sides of the house offers great views and deck chairs are there for your comfort. A gas barbecue and picnic table are also located on the deck for your cooking and outdoor dining use.

Hiking is available as close as the back door, with many opportunities in the area. Two Medicine Lake area provides numerous hiking trails and a tour boat operates on the lake also. Firebrand Pass is just up the road and is a great hike.

We are located three miles west of East Glacier on Highway 2. Close enough to town, but removed enough to let you see sunsets, stars, northern lights and nature at its best just outside the door. Fluctuating temperatures, windy weather and long daylight hours are part of summer here in East Glacier, so be prepared for whatever Mother Nature has to offer during your stay.

We are about an hour drive from St. Marys to the north and about an hour to West Glacier. For those flying into the state, Kalispell is about an hour and a half west and Great Falls is two and a half hours south east of us.

For large groups, such as weddings, reunions or retreats our property is adjacent to vrbo listing #118196 and both properties can be rented together to accomodate up to 16 guests.

Railroad Creek Lodging now has its own website with a picture tour of the house, a copy of the rental agreement and more information about the house and its owners. Please check it out at the link below the availability calendar near the bottom of this page.

    • We stayed at Chuck and Vicki Holbrook’s vacation home near East Glacier for 7 nights in June 2008. This may sound exaggerated, but we can truthfully say it was the most relaxing stay we’ve ever had anywhere. We chose it for our first stop on our first trip to Glacier National Park because we were looking for somewhere quiet with good access to the park, with nice scenery from the windows, and with all the comforts of home. Chuck was fast and friendly in answering our questions via e-mail and on the phone. Among his answers were: yes, we could arrive as late as we needed to and let ourselves in, and yes, the phone would let us call an 800 number (so we could use a telephone calling card). When we bought groceries before we arrived, we purchased items such as laundry detergent and drinking water, but it turned out we needn’t have – Chuck and Vicki had a good supply right there. They really did have everything “down to the salt and pepper shakers.” One item we should have brought with us that many vacationers may not need is an iron. Chuck and Vicki also had a number of good reference books and trail guides handy in the living room. With the plentiful windows (which do have shades), we felt like we were part of the great Montana outdoors even when we were inside the house. Beyond the meadows and woods, we enjoyed gazing at the mountains, which still had large white patches from a recent snowfall. We slept in the main bedroom at the west end, where we could see the dawn glow on the mountains and watch for early-morning wildlife. Because we were usually asleep in the remarkable quiet, we didn’t spot much wildlife, but we did see a coyote and a couple of deer. If we listened carefully at night, we could manage to hear the occasional train a quarter of a mile away at its closest, but it passes behind hills and is very quiet from the house. For an astronomy bug like me, the location offers a nice dark sky. We’re looking forward to coming back to Glacier National Park. It’s a special place. When we do, we definitely want to stay at the Holbrooks’ vacation home again. It’s a special place, too.

    • June 26th & 27th 2008: We enjoyed our two day stay at the Holbrook home. With convenient access to the east entrance to Glacier Park, we had a short drive to begin our day. The view from the house is very nice and we slept well without any noise from the road or from neighbors. The kitchen was well stocked with the essentials and the home was very comfortable. We would stay here again if we return to East Glacier.

    • A life long dream to visit Glacier National Park comes true! Three of us from Arizona (Tom fm Phoenix, Beverly fm Chandler, and myself fm Scottsdale) started planning for this extended 9nt/10day "day hiking trip" to GNP (for period 6/28 to 7/7/08) back in Aug'07. This was a "big deal" for us as we planned on driving a total of 2600mls to/fm and wanted to be absolutely certain that we picked-out the best rental home possible in East Glacier Park, MT. that would have everything we needed for a rewarding stay: all those comfortable country "home away from home" amenities with remoteness, privacy, scenic location, and quick highway access to all major GNP Sections. Upon our arrival Sat-6/28 we had the good fortune of meeting and visiting with the H-4 homeowners- Chuck & Vicki Holbrook. After our long 2.5 day drive it was a pleasure to know that we had made the correct decision. We three settled-in very quickly in this spacious, nicely designed and renovated family home with many large windows throughout which allowed for some terrific snow-capped mountain views to the west into GNP. I was lucky enough to have the master bedroom, where in summer, one can lay in bed at night and view these beautiful mountain peaks until 10:30pm..and..our for our first morning we were greeted with a sighting of a mother Moose from the large downstairs family room west windows! For the three of us who had a wonderful 10 day stay at this H-4 rental house, we can reconfirm that Chuck & Vicki's listing statement below is "right-on": "Everything down to the salt and pepper shakers is here for you and your family to allow you to enjoy a carefree vacation on the east side of Glacier Park. Expansive south and west facing windows give you an incredible view that makes our part of the state such a special place." We hope you enjoy your stay at Chuck & Vicki's H-4 rental home as much as we did..

    • My wife and I decided to take the kids and spend Christmas in East Glacier away from home. We were very fortunate to find this wonderful home and rented it for four days. We finally had our white Christmas our family wanted. The cabin fit our needs perfectly and the hospitality of the Holbrooks was well above the the norm. They even put up a small tree for us to decorate. We highly recommend if you stay in East Glacier and want a cabin style house with all the comforts of home, contact the Holbrooks. We have even talked about renting it again in the future and having more family come with us.

    • We enjoyed a very cozy New Years weekend at the guest house. It is well equipped and maintained and met our needs perfectly. The proximity to terrific skiing on Marias Pass is a great benefit; we would recommend it also to summer visitors who would like to hike on the east side of the park.

    • Our group stayed last August (2007). Chuck and Vicki were very accomodating both prior to our trip and during our stay. While we were planning our stay they promptly responded to all of our questions submitted by email, and were accessible by phone. They also were attentive to our concerns while we were there. The house was in great shape and outfitted just as promised. It is spacious enough to accomodate 6 adult males. The kitchen and bathrooms were clean and the former was well equipped. The location relative to Glacier is great and the setting of the home is very nice. We would (and will) definitely stay there again when we return to Glacier. We all were very glad we found it!

    • We had a great time on our trip. We had 8 people in our group and we all LOVED the house. Everyone in our group said they would definitely stay there again if we return to Glacier. The pictures do not do it justice. The house was clean, warm and cozy. The beds were so comfortable. All the windows let us enjoy the beautiful view of the mountains. We even had a rainbow out our window one morning. We also enjoyed the privacy in comparison to staying at one of the lodges.

    • Wonderful place! My staff and I took our annual "retreat" and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We saw an amazing amount of wildlife...moose, sheep....even a black bear! I would never hesitate to recommend. The owners are very friendly and easy to work with. We had great memories here.

    • We arrived at the home in the midst of a June snow storm and left five days later at the beginning of a heat wave. During our stay we found the home was an ideal base for our daily excursions to Glacier N.P. It was welcoming to return every evening with more than enough space for a family of four. When we come back to Glacier, we hope that it would still be available. We highly recommended this VRBO.

    • Very nice spacious house, excellent location. Everything you need for a long stay is right here, even satellite tv with Sirius radio stations. Very clean and comfortable. The perfect spot for the center of most places and just 3 miles to town if you need something. We would definitely come back again for a longer stay. Highly Recommended. Owners are very nice and helpful.
