`Ohi`a Kai Cottage is a charming hideaway close to the beach and an easy walk to Kapa`a town. The cottage has five rooms for your privacy and convenience! You can relax in the sunny living room including Direct TV with TV/VCR/DVD, loveseat, and full-sized, comfortable futon. From the living room there are two interior doors. One leads to the bedroom, featuring queen bed, nightstand, luggage stand, HD TV, and dresser. The other door leads into the dining/kitchen room, equipped with microwave, toaster oven, 2-burner hotplate, small refrigerator, coffeemaker, blender, sink, as well as cookware, cutlery, and dishes. Each of these three rooms has an a/c unit, and the bedroom and dining room both have ceiling fans. But wait, that's not all! Beyond the bedroom is a small reading/sunroom from which wireless internet can be accessed, and completing the cozy cottage is a bright, super-clean bathroom with shower and basic amenities (We even provide soap, shampooo, conditioner!).
A full-sized aerobed is available for guests requiring an extra sleeping option. Other amenities for guest use include beach mats, beach towels, boogey boards, all linens, iron and ironing board, and -upon request - a small selection of DVDs and videos. Lush tropical vegetation surrounds the property, including banana, mango, noni, coconut, bamboo, and panax.
Behind the cottage is a two story house; Hale means "house" in Hawaiian. `Ohi`a Kai Hale refers to the upstairs vacation unit in the house. The Hale is also listed in vrbo, listing number 85235. We are one block from Pono Kai resort, which is on the beach. Across the road from our property is the Church of Latter Day Saints, Kapaa Ward.
The location of `Ohi`a Kai Cottage is ideal for vacationers, business visitors and residents seeking short-term housing. It is on a quiet lot one block from Kuhio Highway within convenient walking distance of the beach, several churches, and the shopping and dining pleasures of downtown Kapa`a. It is approximately nine miles from Lihue Airport, a 20-minute drive at non-peak times.
Some popular visitor destinations and their approximate driving times include to the north Kealia Beach (5 minutes), `Anini Beach (25 minutes), Kilauea Lighthouse (20 minutes), Limahuli National Tropical Garden (55 minutes), Hanela, 60 minutes, and Haena State Park, at the end of the road, 70 minute drive, Haena is where you will find Ke`e Beach and the trailhead to the spectacular Na Pali Coast trail.
To the south heading toward Lihue, Coconut Market Place (5 minutes),Lydgate Beach Park (10 minutes), turn right to see `Opaeka`a Falls (15 minutes), when you are back on Kuhio highway heading toward Lihue, turn right to Hanamaulu to see Wailua Falls (30 minutes), the Kukui Grove Mall (22 minutes), or continue on Kuhio Highway to Poipu (30 mins.) Back on the highway see the largest coffee plantation in the USA, Kauai Coffee. At the southwestern end of the road, is Kekaha, a very large and private beach or before you get that far turn right to see Waimaia Canyon.

To reach `Ohi`a Kai from Lihue Airport, turn right at the traffic light as you’re leaving the airport. This puts you on Kuhio Highway headed north. Continue straight for about nine miles. Along the way you will cross the Wailua River, pass the Coconut Marketplace shopping and dining complex on your right, ans soon you will see Safeway on your left and the Waipouli Beach Resort on your right. Keep driving! Shortly thereafter you will come to a traffic light in front of a small shopping complex with a Big Save grocery store and Shell gas station on your left. The Post Office is in that complex! A few blocks further and you will see a left-turn only lane in front of the Latter Day Saints church.
There is no traffic light here, but you will see the entrance to Pono Kai resort directly to your right and a sign welcoming you to downtown Kapa`a in the grassy area ahead. Make a sharp left onto `Ohi`a Street. Note that this is a 90° turn! Don't make a soft left onto Ulu Street, a common error for newcomers. `Ohi`a Kai is the third and last house on the right side of the street. Our property faces the parking lot of the LDS church (white church with blue roof).
`Ohi`a Kai is clearly marked with green signs. Park in front of the cottage in the space reserved for `Ohi`a Kai. If we are not there when you arrive we will have a lock box on the front door. If you plan to arrive in the evening, contact us prior to your arrival so that we can give you the lock box combination.
