Restored 18th Century Stone Cottage

- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
This cottage is a recently restored, small, stone house, built in the early 1700's. It is located on the residence of the Graber family. It sits in a secluded spot beside a beautiful creek, at the edge of a large wooded area. A rear, shaded, stone patio with comfortable lounge chairs overlooks the creek. An additional patio contains an outdoor dining set and outdoor fireplace/grill. Landscaped flower gardens surround the house. Hiking trails border the property.
On the first floor is an open-beamed living room with a non-working fireplace and an adjoining, fully-equipped kitchen. On the second story is a bathroom with shower, and bedroom equipped with a queen-sized bed. A locally handmade quilt decorates the bed.
The words of one of our guests states, 'This is not for someone looking for the ultra modern hotel with non-stop spa treatments and the latest in technology. This is the place for someone looking for absolute quiet and relaxation.' The first class restoration, country charm, the location beside the creek, and the scenery make it the perfect place to get away from your fast-paced world and find the things that matter most. One of the most frequent comments we receive is 'The pictures on this website do not do it justice.'
Our cottage is a romantic spot to renew your love, or celebrate honeymoons and anniversaries. (married couples only, please). It is ideal for a personal spiritual retreat, someone needing undisturbed solitude,a girls get-away, or father-son/ mother-daughter retreats. It is the perfect 'home away from home' if you are touring the sorrounding area. It is an easy drive to all the local tourist sites and wonderful shopping of Lancaster and Chester County. For a longer stay, it is within drivable distance for day trips to Gettysburg, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Wahington D.C. and New York City. We are 5 minutes from a train station taking you to the previous listed cities. (Parksburg station)

My husband and I have always made time to get away, over the 33 years of our marriage, to focus on each other and have a time of peace. Of all of the places we have chosen, this has been the most charming and most peaceful. Bed and breakfasts are lovely, but this cottage gives you total seclusion for uninterupted talks and restfulness. We loved the cottage both inside and out, and can't wait to come back in warmer weather to see everything blossoming. The owner is a lovely lady, and made us feel very welcome.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

This was our second stay at this cottage and we enjoyed ourselves even more than the last visit! It is so peaceful and we feel so comfortable here. We feel like this is our second home now and once again we are checking the website calendar and preparing for another stay! The place is spotless and has everything you need if you want to stay in & cook a meal or two, but it is close enough to the area attractions. Frieda the property owner, does a wonderful job of making you feel welcome and we are so glad we go to know her. See you soon!Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

We absolutely loved this place!! I have still been talking about it and sharing pictures with all of our friends and family, It was so perfect! Frieda left fresh flowers on some of the tables when we arrived. Everything was exceptionally clean, which made me feel extra comfortable during our honeymoon. The landscaping was gorgeous and well kept. We enjoyed sitting by the creek and enjoying the beautiful surroundings. We also had a little cookout, which Frieda generously provided all the tools for (even charcoal). There was shopping nearby too. I cannot say enough about this place. It looked cute in all of the pictures, but nothing like it does in real life. I hope to go back!!Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

My husband, infant son and I had booked another VRBO that had not worked out. We left there before our vacation was over and thought we would have to head home. Knowing our situation, Frieda allowed us to book and arrive at the cottage the same day. After a day of driving and disappointed expectations, we arrived to this spotless, homey, beautiful cottage in an amazing setting. We spent the rest of our week at the house enjoying the patio, outdoor fireplace and sitting by the creek. It was wonderful, and definitely the most relaxing week of vacation we've had as a family. The day we left was my husband's birthday, and Frieda brought us homemade pastries for breakfast. The cottage is a really special place, and we look forward to returning.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

I stayed for two nights to work on a book, and I found the quiet and the absence of Internet distraction to be wonderful for concentration. Also the bed is extremely comfortable, and I slept really well. The cabin is decorated in a gentle and soothing way, is very comfortable, has everything one needs, and has nothing that gets in the way of focus. Also it's truly fascinating to be in such an old cabin. I plan to come back as often as I can to make real progress on my book! Thank you, Frieda and family.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Glad you liked the bed. We got the best mattress we could find so people would fondly remember their night at the cottage.

My husband & I just got home from our 4 day stay at this beautifully restored cottage and have already made plans for another visit this fall! This is the perfect place to unplug from the world, relax and enjoy the simple things in life. The grounds are just meticulous! We will be telling our friends about this gem and plan on returning again and again! Thank you Frieda!Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

We stayed in May 2012 in this cottage for a few days and enjoyed it so much that we added one day more and wished we could add more!!! The owner was very helpful, everything was very clean, well-maintained and lovingly decorated. We enjoyed sitting in the garden by the creek listening to the water, taking short walks around the property, having a break from city life and busy-busy. The weather was great so we booked a Buggy Ride for one hour and visited an Amish house. I was able to draw and paint the house and garden, my husband relaxed and we had a wonderful time. We will certainly repeat this experience as soon as we can!!! Highly recommended!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I stayed here to ring in the new year and it was truly wonderful! There is not one thing I would change or update about the cottage. We had found out just the week before Christmas that my husband and I were soon going to have a child and this vacation on New Year's was the perfect way to connect and think of all the joys that 2012 is going to bring. When we first arrived we knew that this land and the cottage was special. The creek beside the house and the hillside transform you to another time. Another plus is being without a television or internet connection you really can relax without the noise of the constant media happening all around you. We plan to return this year before the baby is born and look forward to another relaxing weekend.Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

We decided to start our Christmas celebration by watching the Miracle of Christmas at the Sound and Sound Theater. The play was good. However, we have an added bonus to our trip...We are fortunate to find this gem in Lancaster. Staying at the cottage in Atglen was the highlight of our trip. The living room is cozy with informative books. The kitchen and dining room, although small, was complete! The bedroom is comfortable. The whole cottage is clean, spotless and quaint. The sound of the river at the back of the cottage is soothing. We did not want to leave........Congratulations Frieda and family for the excellent renovations. Thank you for your hospitality.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing.
