Lancaster cottage description

This cottage is a recently restored, small, stone house, built in the early 1700's. It is located on the residence of the Graber family. It sits in a secluded spot beside a beautiful creek, at the edge of a large wooded area. A rear, shaded, stone patio with comfortable lounge chairs overlooks the creek. An additional patio contains an outdoor dining set and outdoor fireplace/grill. Landscaped flower gardens surround the house. Hiking trails border the property.

On the first floor is an open-beamed living room with a non-working fireplace and an adjoining, fully-equipped kitchen. On the second story is a bathroom with shower, and bedroom equipped with a queen-sized bed. A locally handmade quilt decorates the bed.

The words of one of our guests states, 'This is not for someone looking for the ultra modern hotel with non-stop spa treatments and the latest in technology. This is the place for someone looking for absolute quiet and relaxation.' The first class restoration, country charm, the location beside the creek, and the scenery make it the perfect place to get away from your fast-paced world and find the things that matter most. One of the most frequent comments we receive is 'The pictures on this website do not do it justice.'

Our cottage is a romantic spot to renew your love, or celebrate honeymoons and anniversaries. (married couples only, please). It is ideal for a personal spiritual retreat, someone needing undisturbed solitude,a girls get-away, or father-son/ mother-daughter retreats. It is the perfect 'home away from home' if you are touring the sorrounding area. It is an easy drive to all the local tourist sites and wonderful shopping of Lancaster and Chester County. For a longer stay, it is within drivable distance for day trips to Gettysburg, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Wahington D.C. and New York City. We are 5 minutes from a train station taking you to the previous listed cities. (Parksburg station)

This is a second trip (our first last year) to celebrate Valentine's day and my husband's birthday, just a little late. It was, as the first time, wonderful! The simple beauty inside, and God's beauty in the nature he created outside, made for the perfect peaceful retreat. Due to our jobs, my husband and I don't have much time alone together. Free from the noise and craziness of the outside world, we so enjoyed this little haven of quiet. Everything was so comfortable and inviting. We once again enjoyed everything about the cottage. We cooked together, laughed together, and took walks on the paths in the snow. Thanks Frieda!

The cottage and landlord (Frieda) are, simply put, amazing. From first sight at the end of the driveway, my wife was squealing with excitement when she saw how cute the cottage was. Frieda and her family have clearly put a lot of effort and care into restoring the building--and their attention to detail extended to every part of the stay, from flowers on the kitchen table to chocolates by the bedside when we arrived. The setting is gorgeous and tranquil, with a bubbling creek just outside, yet within an easy drive of the sights of Lancaster County. I can't recommend the property highly enough: we'll definitely be coming back here! This is a true gem.

My husband and I absolutely loved this place. It is quaint, charming, comfortable and had everything we needed. Location was good for visiting sites both to the NW and SE and for just 'riding around' and covered bridge 'hunting'. This cottage helped us "experience" more fully the quiet and simple ways of the folks who live in this area. If we're ever in the area we would try to stay here again and recommend it to anyone traveling to this area. Freida was a pleasure to work with.

This cottage was an absolute find. We loved staying here. It was magical for two, hidden away in the woods by a creek. We sat outside after a day out doing the local sights with a glass of wine from the very local vineyard and it was hard to believe we were in 21st century America. It is hard to praise it enough. It is very well done up, very comfortable and clearly this was done with a lot of thought and love. This felt like a personal mission, and we were the lucky recipients. For the US this is also unusually old, so full of character and exactly the sort of place we look for when travelling in Europe. Hardly what you would expect in rural Pennsylvania. We recommend this unreservedly.

This is a charmingly beautiful little cottage with a cozy and equally charming interior - my wife and I stayed here the first two nights after our wedding before moving on to our honeymoon destination, and it was just the relaxing stop we needed that refreshed us after a hectic season of wedding planning. We highly recommend this property to anyone, particularly for a romantic getaway.

This was our first visit to the cottage. We felt a great appreciation for the opportunity to experience living in an authentic colonial home, with modern conviences! My husband and I enjoyed relaxation but adventures are within easy driving distance. Our visit came at a time when the first summer crops became available from the local farms, quite a bonus. We stayed for a week and found it to be a highly recommended and lovely getaway.

Owner response: Guests love buying fresh garden produce grown on the local farms, often picked that very day. They bring it to the cottage, throw it on the outdoor grill, add some meat, garnish with some of the herbs grown in the cottage garden, and they have a 5 star meal!

This was our second stay at the Stone Cottage - this time for our 37th anniversary. I highly recommend this cottage for spending great alone time with your spouse! If you are looking for peace and restoration, this is a sweet place to be. It is also close to many attractions if you so desire. We always enjoy going to Longwood Gardens while in the area. Each time we stay here, I feel like I'm in a "storybook" environment (the "shire" maybe:)? Do yourself a favor and stay here - you will not regret it.

My wife and I stayed at the Cottage to start our honeymoon 5 years ago (where has the time gone?!). When went back for our 5 year anniversity and it's still amazing. It was like returning to visit a friend. God's peace is easily felt in and around the cottage with the flowing stream and fragrant flowers. We are hoping to get back to the Cottage every 5 years because it has quickly become a landmark place in our marriage.
