This cottage is a recently restored, small, stone house, built in the early 1700's. It is located on the residence of the Graber family. It sits in a secluded spot beside a beautiful creek, at the edge of a large wooded area. A rear, shaded, stone patio with comfortable lounge chairs overlooks the creek. An additional patio contains an outdoor dining set and outdoor fireplace/grill. Landscaped flower gardens surround the house. Hiking trails border the property.
On the first floor is an open-beamed living room with a non-working fireplace and an adjoining, fully-equipped kitchen. On the second story is a bathroom with shower, and bedroom equipped with a queen-sized bed. A locally handmade quilt decorates the bed.
The words of one of our guests states, "This is not for someone looking for the ultra modern hotel with non-stop spa treatments and the latest in technology. This is the place for someone looking for absolute quiet and relaxation." The first class restoration, country charm, the location beside the creek, and the scenery make it the perfect place to get away from your fast-paced world and find the things that matter most. One of the most frequent comments we receive is "The pictures on this website do not do it justice."
Our cottage is a romantic spot to renew your love, or celebrate honeymoons and anniversaries. (married couples only, please). It is ideal for a personal spiritual retreat, someone needing undisturbed solitude,a girls get-away, or father-son/ mother-daughter retreats. It is the perfect "home away from home" if you are touring the sorrounding area. It is an easy drive to all the local tourist sites and wonderful shopping of Lancaster and Chester County. For a longer stay, it is within drivable distance for day trips to Gettysburg, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Wahington D.C. and New York City. We are 5 minutes from a train station taking you to the previous listed cities. (Parksburg station)

Highlight of our visit to Lancaster

We decided to start our Christmas celebration by watching the Miracle of Christmas at the Sound and Sound Theater. The play was good. However, we have an added bonus to our trip...We are fortunate to find this gem in Lancaster. Staying at the cottage in Atglen was the highlight of our trip. The living room is cozy with informative books. The kitchen and dining room, although small, was complete! The bedroom is comfortable. The whole cottage is clean, spotless and quaint. The sound of the river at the back of the cottage is soothing. We did not want to leave........Congratulations Frieda and family for the excellent renovations. Thank you for your hospitality.

We had a splendid time at this cozy little cottage. My husband and I drank hot chocolate on the porch area overlooking the creek behind the cottage and read books curled up in the living room. With many things to do nearby, we found ourselves preferring to stay curled up on the couch reading and enjoying the tranquility of the restored home. We absolutely recommend and will return soon!

My husband and I have been on many vacations but this by far was one of our favorites. The home and property were absolutely beautiful. The owner was a perfect host and was more than accommodating. The home was clean and well cared for. The owner provides nice little extras like brochures and maps for the surrounding area, books to read, candles in the fireplace, coffee, soft towels, feather pillows, and a beautiful Amish quilt on the bed. The landscaping, flower gardens, and babbling brook provided a setting for peace and tranquility which was priceless. Perfect location for visiting the Amish country and all it has to offer. We look forward to returning and have recommended the home to many of our friends and family members. You will not be disappointed!

My husband and I just stayed here this past weekend and words cannot describe how beautiful it is. It's very simple and yet amazing. As we drove down the gravel driveway, it really looked and felt like something out of a fairytale, truly magical. The house is spotless and decorated perfectly (not too much but just enough). The stream behind the house is wonderful, the whole area is very private and peaceful. We used the outdoor fireplace and talked for hours and also took a little hike in the trails just East of the house. The homeowner is an absolute joy to work with and my husband I promised each other to take this trip once a year to spend quality time together.
Owner response:It is a pleasure to host all our guests and we do it with great energy and pride. Our goal is to help people de-stress and discover deeper relationship with God and the people they love.

When we first drove into the drive way I could not help but clap my hands with pure delight. We had such a wonderful stay at this cottage. It was private, quiet, relaxing, and beautiful. The owners have put special touches in the decorating. The landscaping could not have been done better and the cottage was clean. We toured Amish country and enjoyed a tour through the tabernacle at the Mennonite Information centre. We also hired a Mennonite lady to drive with us and take us on a tour for 2hours around the Amish homes. This was a perfect get away for us as we celebrated our 10th anniversary. We highly recommend this cottage. We loved our stay there and hope to come back again.

Had a great stay at this fully renovated heritage cottage! The owner Frieda was especially nice, supplying us with somer her home-made yogurt. She also loaned us a detailed map of the backroads in Lancaster county which was invaluable on our touring. Her recommendation to try Dienner's, her favourite Amish family restaurant in Paradise ($9.95 per person!!) was bang-on! Thanks again Frieda!

As the last guest review stated, the cottage was better than the pictures and ad could convey. When we drove up to the property, all 3 of us just stood there, stunned at how beautiful it was. The landscaping, trees, stonework, etc. were fantastic, but the interior was equally wonderful. The comment was made in other reviews that it was a fairy tale cottage and that is an excellent description. There is so much to do in the area and it's an excellent spot to sightsee from, but we found ourselves choosing to do less than planned as we didn't want to leave the place. We cannot wait to return. If you have any opportunity to spend a weekend or longer, don't miss this place. Our 8 year old son loved the creek and would have been quite content to just stay there the whole time, as well. There was a wonderful collection of literature, also. You can hear the creek with the windows open, too. We loved it!!!!!

My husband and I loved staying at this sweet stone cottage, watching and listening to the creek, hanging out, reading and writing. Also, the house provided a good home base for exploring the area. Both the cottage and surrounding grounds are meticulously maintained. We add our enthusiastic recommendation and thanks to Frieda and her family for sharing this tranquil space. Barbara and John. As missionaries on furlough, it was a perfect place to go to relax, reconnect with our vision and each other and to refocus. The quiet atmosphere, lovely stream and landscaping (especially in the snow!) made it a place we will come back to again and again. It it just a beautiful, charming place, well maintained and I would highly recommend it to anyone!
