Beautiful & Relaxing get away from everything

Guest: Wonderful Trips (Philadelphia, PA)
Date of Stay: 12/30/11 Review Submitted: 03/16/12

My husband and I stayed here to ring in the new year and it was truly wonderful! There is not one thing I would change or update about the cottage. We had found out just the week before Christmas that my husband and I were soon going to have a child and this vacation on New Year's was the perfect way to connect and think of all the joys that 2012 is going to bring. When we first arrived we knew that this land and the cottage was special. The creek beside the house and the hillside transform you to another time. Another plus is being without a television or internet connection you really can relax without the noise of the constant media happening all around you. We plan to return this year before the baby is born and look forward to another relaxing weekend.

Peaceful and Serene

We had a splendid time at this cozy little cottage. My husband and I drank hot chocolate on the porch area overlooking the creek behind the cottage and read books curled up in the living room. With many things to do nearby, we found ourselves preferring to stay curled up on the couch reading and enjoying the tranquility of the restored home. We absolutely recommend and will return soon!

Highlight of our visit to Lancaster

We decided to start our Christmas celebration by watching the Miracle of Christmas at the Sound and Sound Theater. The play was good. However, we have an added bonus to our trip...We are fortunate to find this gem in Lancaster. Staying at the cottage in Atglen was the highlight of our trip. The living room is cozy with informative books. The kitchen and dining room, although small, was complete! The bedroom is comfortable. The whole cottage is clean, spotless and quaint. The sound of the river at the back of the cottage is soothing. We did not want to leave........Congratulations Frieda and family for the excellent renovations. Thank you for your hospitality.

Wonderful Place for a Getaway

Guest: Sharon (Clayton, NJ)
Date of Stay: 11/04/11 Review Submitted: 11/08/11

My husband and I just stayed here this past weekend and words cannot describe how beautiful it is. It's very simple and yet amazing. As we drove down the gravel driveway, it really looked and felt like something out of a fairytale, truly magical. The house is spotless and decorated perfectly (not too much but just enough). The stream behind the house is wonderful, the whole area is very private and peaceful. We used the outdoor fireplace and talked for hours and also took a little hike in the trails just East of the house. The homeowner is an absolute joy to work with and my husband I promised each other to take this trip once a year to spend quality time together.

Owner response:It is a pleasure to host all our guests and we do it with great energy and pride. Our goal is to help people de-stress and discover deeper relationship with God and the people they love.

A Glimpse of Heaven

Guest: Mary (Rhode Island)
Date of Stay: 10/22/11 Review Submitted: 11/12/11

My husband and I have been on many vacations but this by far was one of our favorites. The home and property were absolutely beautiful. The owner was a perfect host and was more than accommodating. The home was clean and well cared for. The owner provides nice little extras like brochures and maps for the surrounding area, books to read, candles in the fireplace, coffee, soft towels, feather pillows, and a beautiful Amish quilt on the bed. The landscaping, flower gardens, and babbling brook provided a setting for peace and tranquility which was priceless. Perfect location for visiting the Amish country and all it has to offer. We look forward to returning and have recommended the home to many of our friends and family members. You will not be disappointed!

When we first drove into the drive way I could not help but clap my hands with pure delight. We had such a wonderful stay at this cottage. It was private, quiet, relaxing, and beautiful. The owners have put special touches in the decorating. The landscaping could not have been done better and the cottage was clean. We toured Amish country and enjoyed a tour through the tabernacle at the Mennonite Information centre. We also hired a Mennonite lady to drive with us and take us on a tour for 2hours around the Amish homes. This was a perfect get away for us as we celebrated our 10th anniversary. We highly recommend this cottage. We loved our stay there and hope to come back again.

Had a great stay at this fully renovated heritage cottage! The owner Frieda was especially nice, supplying us with somer her home-made yogurt. She also loaned us a detailed map of the backroads in Lancaster county which was invaluable on our touring. Her recommendation to try Dienner's, her favourite Amish family restaurant in Paradise ($9.95 per person!!) was bang-on! Thanks again Frieda!

Wonderful place to stay!!!!!!!!!!

Guest: Steve, Monda & Spencer (Wylie, Tx.)
Date of Stay: 07/19/11 Review Submitted: 08/09/11

As the last guest review stated, the cottage was better than the pictures and ad could convey. When we drove up to the property, all 3 of us just stood there, stunned at how beautiful it was. The landscaping, trees, stonework, etc. were fantastic, but the interior was equally wonderful. The comment was made in other reviews that it was a fairy tale cottage and that is an excellent description. There is so much to do in the area and it's an excellent spot to sightsee from, but we found ourselves choosing to do less than planned as we didn't want to leave the place. We cannot wait to return. If you have any opportunity to spend a weekend or longer, don't miss this place. Our 8 year old son loved the creek and would have been quite content to just stay there the whole time, as well. There was a wonderful collection of literature, also. You can hear the creek with the windows open, too. We loved it!!!!!

My husband and I loved staying at this sweet stone cottage, watching and listening to the creek, hanging out, reading and writing. Also, the house provided a good home base for exploring the area. Both the cottage and surrounding grounds are meticulously maintained. We add our enthusiastic recommendation and thanks to Frieda and her family for sharing this tranquil space. Barbara and John. As missionaries on furlough, it was a perfect place to go to relax, reconnect with our vision and each other and to refocus. The quiet atmosphere, lovely stream and landscaping (especially in the snow!) made it a place we will come back to again and again. It it just a beautiful, charming place, well maintained and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

My wife and I needed an oasis to practice our instruments and this certainly fit the bill. In beatiful seclusion, we had the required silence and privacy for some serious study in a very relaxed place.Everything about this cottage is top rate. We were there in Jan. While it was below freezing outside, it was very comfy inside. We are looking forward to returning his year in warmer weather so we will be better able to enjoy the fabulous deck and grounds.

Sometimes reading reviews you think, that can't all be true, but truly these reviews are right on. This is an enchanting, comfortable, and exceptionally clean cottage in a most pristine setting. We had a most enjoyable, relaxing anniversary weekend. There is much to see and do in the Lancaster area. Freida was a delight to meet and talk to and she and the family are doing a super job in maintaining this delightful cottage.

We stayed two nights and wished we had stayed a third. The location was close to all we wanted to do in the area - Lancaster's Central Market, explore the countryside, Dutch Wonderland, etc. The cottage and grounds were exactly as described and shown. The stream behind the house was our favorite spot. I would recommend this to anyone looking for peace and quiet.

I can't say enough about this cottage! It was BEAUTIFUL! The owner was so pleasant, I was so surprised to find she had left us a gift. I would recommend this to anyone that may be traveling to that area. The cottage was close to all the sights that we wanted to see, the Amish Communites, Sight and Sound Theater and good food. The photo's are awesome but when I got there it took my breath away. I LOVED IT.

Date of Stay: 05/17/10 Review Submitted: 05/27/10

As I approached the stone cottage the first time, I could hear the creek softly running and sheep were grazing in the field. A horse fed in the adjoining meadow and birds played on the side patio. Opening the door, a pleasant, woodsy fragrance greeted me and I walked into a peacefulness and serenity which enveloped me and stayed with me throughout my week there. Mornings brought two deer to drink from the creek as I read on the patio amongst the flowers basking in the sunshine. If you are looking for a sparkingly clean abode to enjoy God's presence, which offers modern conveniences such as hot running water, CD player, microwave, refrig, stove, luxurious bed, etc., the cottage is the place. Day trips to Valley Forge, Gettysburg, Delaware museums, are easy, and don't miss Central Market in Lancaster. I was reluctant to leave and am looking forward to returning to the well-restored cottage.

I can't say enough about this cottage. I recommend it to everyone that is looking for a get-away. I have been twice myself and plan on going back again. It is absolutely beautiful and every detail is tended to. As you pull into the driveway you are greeted by a couple of sheep that are hanging out around a pond, when you pull up to the cottage you might catch a glance of Queenie, the horse that is situated around the property. I loved being about to come back after a day of exploring the area to sit outside and light a fire and have a glass of wine. Its a great comfort especially when you come from a city where the noise is always on going. I hope the next people that stay here will enjoy it as much as I have.

If you're looking for a place to just relax with some good books, quiet conversation, and fresh air, this is the place. Very unassuming yet adequately equipped, the grounds are beautiful, it's very peaceful, the owner is very nice and helpful but will not be in your face at all once you initially meet her upon arrival. If you're looking for a place to be a hermit, this could be it. Beautifully restored cottage. Very scenic country to drive around in as well.

I loved this little cottage. When I arrived I felt like I truly was coming home. I hope to make it back again in the Spring! It was so calming to know that at the end of my adventures, I would be returning to this slice of Heaven. The quiet time I experienced was needed and welcomed. Someone had mentioned about road noise and I certainly did not hear any cars or was disturbed by anything! It truly is a piece of Heaven!

For me, this stone cottage is a simple getaway from busyness, a place to hear God. As I wrote in the guestbook there, it is BREATHING ROOM FOR GOD. I have used this place as a personal retreat, a place for marriage renewal, a place to pray and a place to prepare sermons. There is an amazing atmosphere of peace, and I find it easy to let myself out in prayer, and to meditate by the quiet stream. Invariably the Lord has brought to me the ideas needed for speaking engagements. What is it about a place? Though I cannot explain that, I highly recommend this hand-hewn stone cottage to pastors, speakers, and furloughing missionaries like myself. ~LeRoy J. Whitman

When Elizabeth discovered this listing we agreed it was the most charming, romantic, and magical of places. We began to imagine our spending an entire month there. As our reservation time got closer we would look at the pictures and imagine the meals, the hikes, and the delights of a fairy tale come true. While we had to come and go to our work in DC several times, the charm of the cottage filled our minds and hearts while we were away. Everytime we returned and drove up to the gardens, or went through the front door we were again in a special and wonderful place, filled with love and surrounded by beauty.

We stayed in a garage apartment attached to the main house and not the cottage, but can highly recommend the owner and property. The cottage looks just like it is in the photo and the grounds are beautiful and well maintained. You are staying on 14 acres of peaceful, beautiful countryside that is close to many wonderful places to visit. The owner is very gracious and accomodating. We can't say enough about this beautiful little stone cottage. It is a step back in time. As you sit on the outdoor patio cooking dinner over the fire you can hear the clip clop of the horse and buggy on the road above. We brought a small portable DVD player. There is a power outlet on the stone wall outside by the grill. We sat outside by the fire and watched a moive in the evening. How cool is that! The landscaping was beautiful. We had everything we needed on the inside. We did not want to leave. We did easy day trips to Gettysburg, Ocean Grove, NJ and Hershey. Rick and Debbie ... Seminole, Florida

I Cannot Return Soon Enough

Guest: Kathryn W. (Haddonfield, NJ, USA)
Date of Stay: 07/02/09 Review Submitted: 07/27/09

I rented this lovely little cottage for a week so that I could prepare for a major examination in a peaceful, inspiring environment, and spend a few of those days alone with my husband far away from the busy-ness of suburban living. The cottage and its setting exceeded my expectations. When the cottage came into view at the end of the drive, a little gasp escaped my mouth, as the property was even lovelier than the photos depict. I was warmly greeted by Frieda Graber, who provided me with everything I needed to make my stay perfect. The cottage was spotless, and its restoration is a perfect blending of old and new. The property is exquisitely landscaped and borders a babbling brook that provides soothing, round-the-clock background "music." Here again, the Grabers' talent for blending old and new is evident in the nearly seamless joinder of the patio and the brook. I studied in the morning and late afternoon on the patio. In the evening, I enjoyed my choice of sofa and chairs in the living room where I studied to the sounds of the brook and to actual music, which I was able to listen to thanks to the CD player in the cottage. The bedroom was cozy and comfortable. I intentionally did not set the alarm, and the absolute serenity of the cottage and its setting was borne out by the fact that I slept ten hours every night! The bathroom has a modern sink, toilet, and shower. The kitchen contains everything needed to enjoy meals on the property. The cottage is close to Lancaster, and there are many winding, back roads suitable for long rides in the country. I even found an Amish farmer with a roadside stand where I was able to buy shoo-fly pie that was almost as good as my grandmother's! This is a perfect place to get away from it all and enjoy solitude in a peaceful setting. I was concerned that the property would not be private, as I knew that it was on the Grabers' property. However, their house cannot be seen from the cottage, as it sits on its own parcel of land. I highly recommend this property and cannot wait to return, which I plan to do next spring and, hopefully, every spring thereafter.

The grounds are meticulously kept and the inside restored beautifully. We loved the wooden beams and the farmhouse sink! We played in the creek, caught fireflies, fed the sheep and horse, played on the back stone patio and generally, truly, enjoyed every moment. Thank you Graber family! Rebecca, Danny and Jacob

I really enjoyed my time there. The place has been wonderfully remodeled and the owner generously has left behind a selection of teas, sweetners, and creamer, etc in the pantry for guests' use. You're pretty much on your own once you get there; so for travellers who love peace and being left completely alone in a great setting--this is the place for you. If you want a more hands on experience with an owner, perhaps a bnb would be for you. The only drawback is that there is a bit of road noise to contend with, but otherwise I can't wait to go back and visit. I loved staying there!

This stone cottage was better than the ad displayed on the internet and the ad was beautiful. The landscaping was flawless and the inside was gorgeous and inviting. The brook outside made a wonderful place to relax, snooze or read. We had our breakfast each morning with the birds and chipmunks. The atmosphere was perfect for a get-a-way from telephones, TV and the outside world. The owners have done an excellent job of creating an enviroment for meditating, study or romancing.

The Cottage far exceeded my expectations. After months of research, with dozens of local possibilities, I am still not disappointed that I picked this place for my honeymoon suite - even now that our time there has passed. My bride and I had a lovely time relaxing on the patio and back yard. Everything was lovely, quaint, and charming. The owner certainly gave services far beyond what we paid for. The pricing is below what she could charge - and everyone who has ever stayed there knows it. For a relaxing, charming retreat, pick this Cottage. You will certainly want to visit again - I'm already thinking about my next visit.

Just left the cottage this morning. Wonderful place. I kept thinking of the picture on their site "cottage, tucked between creek and hill" and expected the house to be in the back yard of Frieda's big home. Not so. This cottage has it's own private country lane and setting. We could imagine the life of an early 1700 French settler, (minus the electricity, well manicured lawn, running water and gardens). Thanks to the family for sharing. . .

Our weekend at the stone cottage was was absolutely fantastic. The serenity of the home, the grounds and the area were rejuvenating to the mind, body and spirit. Early spring and the trees and flowers are in fragrant bloom; the stream is full and the peaceful sound of moving water can lull you to sleep, if you are inclined to nap on the patio. If you want a restful, very romantic getaway then the stone cottage is where you want to be.

This was by far my favorite place I have ever stayed. I wish that I never had to leave. I would even say that it was better than my honeymoon. :) My husband and I have 3 little girls, the oldest just turned 3. We love our girls dearly, but this was our first break from the kids since the oldest was born. Needless to say, we needed a break to sleep, relax, have time to be a couple again instead of just being parents, and get some more sleep. The scenery was amazing and the landscaping was just perfect. We didn't have our phones, computers, or a TV which made it go from an amazing place to as close to perfect as I could imagine. This isn't the place for a high adventure trip or for someone looking for the ultra modern hotel with non stop spa treatments. This is the place for someone looking for absolute quiet and relaxation. The country charm, the location, and the scenery couldn't be better. We're already trying to find relatives that can watch our kids so we can come back. Also, for those who appreciate restorations, this restoration is well done and deserves admiration of the detailed craftsmanship that went into modernizing the cabin while maintaining the historic charm.

Surrounded by corn ready for harvest this Oct. when we were there. We watched as Amish and Mennonite used their horses in working the fields. We visited Sight & Sound which surpassed our expectations, drove in to West Chester to tour QVC, drove up to Muncy to see the "Grisley" store (woodworking machinery)and also visited the replica of the "Wilderness Tabernacle." Each evening we came "home" to a warm, quiet, just right cottage set in the back of a field. Excellent landscaping with a multitude of blooming flowers of various shades, a Photographers delight. The rain on the cedar shakes sounded so great to lull you back to sleep (1 night). The brook (est 12 foot across) rushed and ebbed over stones for a great sound effect. Everything in the refrigerator to get us started, bottled water, condiments, coffee etc. We had the couch and the recliner in full use in the evenings, catching up on the mound of reading we were behind on. This is a great place. Frieda is an excellent hostess and very helpful. We hated to leave.

Imagine all your ideas of a quaint cottage set in idyllic settings and this has it. I’ll count them off: An immense and lush landscaped garden, a private creek which empties into a wadable pond, a private woods with numerous walking paths, fully-appointed and modern furnishings including air conditioning, heating, microwave and dimmable lights inside and out (all except for TV and Internet, but who needs those anyway), and the hospitality and care of its owners who go out of their way to make sure you have all that you need to feel right at home. Built in the 1700’s and completely restored in 2005, this property is truly a gem. Despite it’s seclusion, it is only a few miles away from shopping and dining. Perhaps the only mark against this property is the relative proximity of a highway, though this becomes less of an issue during the night.

You might think that the treeless winter landscape of Pennsylvania could not compete with the snow-capped mountains of Colorado ... NOT true. The cottage and it's surroundings are completely charming. I especially enjoyed the outdoor fireplace right next to the babbling stream. We enjoyed some wonderful meals there in the chilly evenings. The cottage itself is appointed with everything one could need for a cozy and quiet respite from the world. I recommend this idyllic retreat to and have already booked my next visit!

My wife and I vacationed in the Lancaster area in early October and stayed an entire week at the Graber's Agape House, the perfect location for us. During our week-long visit we journeyed by train for a day in Philadelphia, drove east to Valley Forge, west to Gettysburg, and traversed most of Lancaster County's towns, villages, and farmland. We took in as much as we could including wonderful Amish cooking, covered bridges, beautiful farms, homemade root beer, national historic sites, and whoopie pies. The Grabers have put much love into restoring and decorating this 18th century dwelling and those who stay here will appreciate their efforts. This charming little cottage is historic, peaceful, and cozy, and offers everything you'll need to feel like you belong here. It's secluded but not far from the highway, out of the heavily congested areas but close enough to everything, and just the right size to be comfortable no matter how much time is spent "at home". All in all, a wonderful vacation made even nicer by the owners' hospitality.

If God has planned a second life for us(in Heaven) it would probably look like this place. We have visited a very large number of countries and places but this one will have a special place in our memories. There are so many things to say about it: the creek behind the cottage, the garden of flowers in front of it, the wild forest and the country side, the amish villages and the rustic towns in the neighborhood. You can simply stay by the fire and enjoy the peaceful life in the middle of the nature or visit the gardens ,villages and indian caves nearby. We'll definitely be back again...Lovely place

We've honestly never found a more perfect and practical getaway for us and our kids. The garden is beautiful and the cottage is relaxing and cute, but with enough space to cook, eat, and simply enjoy listening to the river outside. The highlight of this trip was to BBQ outside while the sun set behind the trees. We'll definately be back! Thanks again!

A hidden gem! We couldn't believe such a place like this existed! A place to enjoy everything from hiking, swimming in the creek, and to many other things to list. We hope you will enjoy this gem now that the secret is out on the net. Thanks for everything, The Shariffs
