I arrived in France June 2011 and have spent the last 3 years putting finishing touches on a barn conversion, the latest new feature being a private pétanque court. The furnishings are owner not renter oriented...high end Bosch appliances, Le Creuset and All Clad cookware, comfortable beds and linens.
The barn sits on a raised plateau with both bedrooms on the street level. The master bedroom has a full bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers, ensuite half bath, television, and french doors opening onto a country road. The second bedroom has two single beds (made up as a king bed if you prefer), a wardrobe and view of the pétanque court and garden. A full bath is in the hall between the bedrooms.
A path winds down from the road to the terrace where French doors in the kitchen and living room open onto a lovely southeast-facing terrace with a shade tree for outdoor meals and all day sun for sunworshipers. A two minute walk to a village store, bar, spice shop, post office, doctor's office, church and a popular restaurant with a fine local reputation.
There is overhead halogen lighting in every room. The flooring is pine with a whitewash finish. Some of the interior stone walls and beams from the barn have been judiciously left exposed. There is a wood burning stove in the living area and firewood available for your use. There are two HD LED television sets hooked up to a British satellite, one in the living room, the other in the master bedroom.

My property is located in the northwest corner of the Lot, just minutes from the Dordogne in Aquitaine. The area is characterized by little industry, small population, rural landscape, low key tourism, and beautiful, hot dry summer days. Degagnac and the surrounding area has dozens of walking and hiking trails and marked cycling routes as well. For those interested in horseback riding there are two equestrian centers in Degagnac, and riders are routinely seen going by the house on their way to ancient forest trails and open fields. The village has a 'plan d'eau', a small lake for fishing and picnicking with a tennis court, picnic benches and a small playground for young children. Degagnac is also home to the 'Jardin Bourian' (adjacent to the plan d'eau), a teaching garden that inspires natural gardening and promotes biodiversity through practical advice and demonstrations. Five kilometers away is Salviac which has shops, restaurants, an ATM machine, a boulangerie/patisserie, a municipal swimming pool and a grocery store. Another 5 minutes down the road is Cazals which has a very nice Sunday market.
The medieval hill town of Gourdon is just 15 minutes drive away with its full-service hospital, exceptional Saturday market, 2 supermarkets, sidewalk restaurants, shops of all kinds, prehistoric caves, lake swimming and bike rentals.
Cahors, the capitol city of the Lot surrounded on 3 sides by the Lot River, is a 35 minute drive south and is known for its medieval architecture, secret gardens, impressive Resistance Museum, an excellent Saturday market, dozens of shops, in addition to supersized versions of all the retail stores in the region. In Cahors there is no shortage of restaurants, cafes, as well as dockside dining on the river.
The two popular destinations of Domme and Sarlat in the Dordogne are 20 minutes and 35 minutes away respectively. Rocamadour, one of the most visited sites in France, is less than an hour's drive. Boat excursions and kayak/canoe rentals are available along the Dordogne River. A 9-hole golf course 30 minutes away in Vitrac, and an 18-hole golf course is located 50 minutes north of Degagnac in Souillac.
If you love flea markets, 'brocantes' and 'vide greniers' abound from Spring into the Fall, featuring everything from antique furniture and collectables to vintage clothing/linens, old china and silver, antique agricultural tools, books, art etc.
