We can’t recommend the Domaine de Bellagarde enough. My husband and I booked our wedding here just based on photos as we live in Sydney but we were so delighted with the house when we came for a visit. The house is decorated to an excellent quality but retains original features and the charm of an old house. Every room has an en-suite which our guests were delighted about and the large landings and numerous living areas and even a pool room means that you’re not on top of each other even when the house is full. Everything is provided from all the cutlery and crockery you could need, gorgeous L’Occitaine products in the bathrooms to tennis rackets and towels for the pool. We fully utilised the pool area and we had our wedding on the grounds of the house which meant that we could use separate outside areas for the house, marquee and drinks which felt like three different venues and meant the guests could move around freely. Q and Mez, the owners, live in a house on the grounds and were an absolute delight. We were slightly worried about this and thought they might be disturbed by the wedding but they were really relaxed and so helpful the whole 5 days we were there. Q even lent us his surfboard when the waves were good! Their young children were lovely too and played with the kids in our family. After the wedding, Q sent us the photos they took too. Ryan and Fin helped out in the house and made sure that everything went smoothly for us. They seemed to work non-stop, raking the gravel prior to the wedding, putting the sun loungers out each day to even providing a babysitting service on the night. We’d really recommend staying here whether for a family party, a wedding or just a place to relax as the area is gorgeous with the lake, beaches and Hossegor nearby (which had a surfing content on while we were there which meant the town was buzzing). We loved it!!Owner response: Dear Charlotte and Dan, Thank you very much for your fantastic comments and feedback on your wedding day and holiday at the Domaine de Bellegarde in October. It was a genuine pleasure to meet you both along with your family and friends and to host your stay at the property. We wish you a happy marriage and look forward to meeting you again in the future - either in Australia or as a guest at the Bellegarde. Kindest regards Quintin, Merrilyn and family

Crushingly disappointing experience, NOT WORTH IT!

Our stay at the Domaine Bellegarde was crushingly disappointing, NOT WORTH IT and we would definitely not recommend Domaine Bellegarde in Souston to anyone. My family and I rented the Domaine Bellegarde in Soustons earlier this summer and were extremely disappointed with the facilities and level of service that we received throughout our stay. This experience certainly did not justify the high price we paid for this place. Based on our conversations with the owner and the Website that can at best be called misleading, we set our expectations high and had been led to anticipate a luxurious stay. The experience totally let us down for the following reasons: Food -The food was not nearly as “gastronomic” as the Website promised and we were instead fed somewhat average food bought from a local supermarket. For example, the fruits provided were neither ripe nor edible, despite it being summer and being in the vicinity of a multitude of local farmer’s markets. -Freshly made juices were not offered neither at the breakfast nor at the afternoon tea. -The so-called ‘gourmet’ picnic equalled a hard baguette filled with packaged ham and a packet of crisps. -We watched in disbelief as the staff shockingly filled previously used bottles of Evian water with another brand of spring water. Facilities, Furniture and Ambience -Most of the furniture, crockery and cutlery were from IKEA. This is not appropriate for the level of luxury hinted at by the Website. -The carpet on the staircase was very dirty and full of stains. -In the billiard room, several queues were broken and yet displayed! -The exterior of the Domaine was poorly maintained and there were no kinds of flowers planted anywhere in the garden. -The televisions in the rooms were old and did not work. Service Overall, the service was mediocre. Despite the presence of three staff members, clearly poorly trained, lots of details fell between the crack: -The rooms were not well cleaned when we arrived. -They failed to arrange a birthday cake for one of our party, even though we made it clear to the owner that we were renting the Domaine for couple of birthday party. Even worse, they did not inform us until we asked them at 11pm that evening. -They never provided any games for the children. Over the course of the week we spoke repeatedly to the owner and requested several things as promised on the Website, but most of our requests were ignored. DEFINITELY AVOID THIS PLACEOwner response: I have successfully offered luxury catered holidays for the past 11 years & I am bitterly disappointed with my first ever negative review! I pride myself on providing a high level of service & attention to detail along with my team of 4 experienced, well trained staff. The Chef, “Duncan Taylor” is a fully qualified, experienced & passionate chef. Duncan spent 2 years at the acclaimed “Gidleigh Park” then “Riverford Organic” described by “Giles Coren” (Sunday Times) as “the lunch of my life”. The 3 hosts trained at a luxury chalet company in Verbier provide a high level of personal and professional service. I always ask for feedback after the 1st day to ensure client expectations are met & the few points raised were actioned immediately: 1. Preference for more regional cuisine - we serve “Les Landes” produce - organic chicken, duck breast, Charolaise beef, local fruits & vegetables. The local supermarket showcases many locally sourced products 2. They requested Evian. We buy this in big bottles & decant to glass carafes 3. Every bath, hand & pool towel changed daily 4. We have 12 quality snooker & pool cues - 3 cues were removed as missing their tips Several points are false: 1. Freshly made juices are provided daily 2. The picnic is tailored to each group & may include individual quiches, range of salads, cold meats, sandwiches, cheeses, salmon, terrine, foie gras, chutneys, quality rose wine/sparkling wine & soft drinks 3. The exterior of the Domaine including garden, lawns & pool is maintained to an exacting standard & is always praised by our clients 4. The fruit-bowl was replenished daily…so who ate the fruit? 5. The TVs/DVD’s in each of the bedrooms all work 6. Despite the accusation of “average food” the plates always came back empty! 7. They made use of the tennis court, table tennis, pool, boules, volleyball, snooker, badminton, swings, slide & giant sandpit I do accept: 1. The carpet on the main stairs had stains but will be replaced for 2012 2. One birthday cake did not arrive from the local patisserie so the chef created a birthday dessert. We apologised & the other cakes were at our expense. It was clear that whatever we did was never going to be good enough & despite our best efforts during the holiday we were told that only a sizeable refund would prevent the posting of a number of poor reviews! We achieve a high level of repeat business which is testament to the personal & professional service we provide.

A fabulous house, delicious food with the added advantage of the very special "Q" and the team service. What more could you want when you go on holiday. The adventure bit for us was surfing!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you so much for your great review Dede...we look forward to your next holiday at the Domaine de Bellegarde and now have three of our own future surfers to join you at the beach! A great team in place for the 2011 season and the sun is shining. Kindest regards Q

From initial enquiry to final departure, nothing was too much trouble for Q and his team. Special diets, local top tips, booking restaurants, arranging surf lessons for our 11 and 14 yr iold boys to name but a few! The house is grand and typically french, intimate enough to create a warm atmosphere and large enough to always find a quiet spot to just read a book. Bedrooms and bathrooms are comfortable, clean and spacious, whilst not being over elaborate. Location is great, close to all ammenities and perfect if you want to start your holiday without a long journey from any of the 3 regional airports serving the property. This has the added benefit of being flexibile with flight times from the UK. A few good restaurants serving reasonably priced local menus, go karting, golf and the beach all within cycling distance (if you have the energy or inclination to drag yourself away from the immaculately maintained pool at the house!) Best things about this holiday are the unique blend of informal style coupled with high levels of service and cuisine. As a holiday for families with young teenagers, nothing we have found beats the easily acessible safe activities during the day, coupled with a calm and sophisticated dinner served under the magnolia tree as the sun sets and you enjoy a glass or two of well earned local wine!Did you find this review helpful? I would not hesitate recommending this fabulous property. The owners and staff go out of their way to make your stay one you will never forget. We spent nine weeks travelling Spain and France but nothing compared to this property and the meals were five star gourmet. It is a beautiful home surrounded by immaculate grounds, swimming pool and gardens. There is a village within walking distance, beautiful lakes, cycle paths, ocean and interesting towns to visit nearby. making this location a must.Did you find this review helpful? Dear Quintin and team at Domiane de Bellegarde, Thank you for making us so welcome, we had a wonderful holiday, thoroughly enjoying the facilities, food and service. We have had the privilege of staying at the Domaine de Bellegarde on two occasions. The first time we spent from Monday to Friday and were so impressed that we rented the whole property for a weekend so that we and 6 of our friends could celebrate my husbands birthday. This was a fabulous weekend with mouthwatering food and brilliant wines. The owners had even remembered and provided my husbands favourite wine! This is a most beautiful property with luxurious facilities and beautiful outdoor activities. The owners were more than accommodating with nothing ever being of too much trouble. In fact we have since taken the liberty of calling in for a coffee and to say hello when we were travelling to Biarritz. The village of Soustons is only a few minutes walk away and has some lovely bars and restaurants plus places like Biarritz are only a short drive away.Did you find this review helpful?
