Keywords: Lakeshore Cabin on the Gunflint Trail
Come enjoy this wonderful lakeshore cottage up the Gunflint Trail from Grand Marias this summer and fall. Our cottage is located on beautiful Loon Lake adjacent to the BWCA. Loon Lake is known for BIG fish, the question is whether or not you can catch them! You will have your own private dock for swimming, fishing and watching sunsets. There is a canoe provided so you can explore the lake. We can arrange motorized fishing boat rental or bring your own boat to the launch just down the road from the cottage.
Take advantage of direct access to the Boundary Waters Canoe and Wilderness Area (BWCA) from our cottage. The BWCA is one of North America's largest wilderness areas with over one thousand lakes and streams within its boundaries.
When you're done playing outside, come inside to relax and get comfortable in your private, classic knotty pine cottage. We have two bedrooms and a newly remodeled bathroom. One bedroom is furnished with a pillow top queen sized bed and the other bedroom has a double bed and pine bunkbeds. Our living space allows you to continue to enjoy the lakeview from our large picture window.
We feel confident you will enjoy your stay and exploring the area. Don't forget to get your camera ready for the moose and other wildlife often seen on the drive up to our cottage on the Gunflint Trail.

Stayed June 2010 and loved how peaceful our time at the cottage was. We hiked everyday, canoed all around Loon Lake. Found our way to Gunflint Lake and rented a boat to explore the area. The young man kindly pointed out things we should not miss. We enjoyed lunch at Gunflint Lodge. All very casual and relaxing. The cottage is all ready for your arrival. We found it so warm and cozy. If you're ready to leave it all behind this is the place to be. We can't wait to return.

This was the perfect escape from cell phones, TV, internet, and job stress. The cabin was charming and well appointed, with comfortable beds. I could have eliminated half the stuff I packed, because they provided all the essentials plus some I didn't even think of, including wine glasses and a bathroom night light. Because it sits above the lake and has plenty of windows, cool breezes kept us comfortable night and day. We spent our days canoeing & hiking, using both our own canoe and the one provided. The lovely, lightly-used portage into Crab Lake beside a rocky creek is not to be missed. Two of us have been coming to the Gunflint for over 35 years, while the other couple were new to the north woods. We were all refreshed and restored by the peace and tranquility. We even sighted a mama moose and two calves on an island in Poplar Lake, who obligingly posed for picture-taking. If you are looking for an authentic, home-grown cabin experience rather than the homogenized Disney resort version, this place is perfect for couples and families with older children who like to spend time soaking up nature. The pictures simply don't do it justice, and the sunsets were lovely. Be sure to lie on the dock at midnight and take in the stars. On a clear night you can count satellites. One word of caution - the steep driveway is a challenge for some city vehicles, although our trusty all-wheel drive Volvo had no problem even fully loaded with canoe on top. Thanks again to Scott and Anna for sharing this treasure.
Owner response:So pleased to hear you enjoyed your vacation at Loon Lake. We hope to serve you again in the future!

My husband and I spent a week at this cabin and it was AWESOME! At first we we experienced a little shock to our system because we were without cell phone service, and felt like we were in the middle of nowhere, but by the 3rd day we were in heaven! We spent our time playing scrabble, listening to the local radio station, and canoeing in the lake! We loved it so much we're going back! I am in the process of making reservations once again. This will be our escape from the frustration, traffic and hectic schedules of everyday life.
Owner response:We are so thrilled you enjoyed your stay! Thank you for taking the time to share with others your positive experience at our cottage. Anna and Scott

"Thanks for sharing this amazing place. We spent a short week here with our 2 children, we had a blast. The kids caught fish(all small, but fun for them) One morning we watched a mother moose and her calf from the dock. It is truly a special place here. We made many memories that we will cherish for a long time to come."

"Three of us went on a BWCA trip four years ago together and loved the canoeing and hiking but wished for showers and beds. This cottage was the best of both worlds! We canoed into Canada via Gunflint Lake, hike all over the area including eagle mountain and took in the night sky with more stars than you can ever see in Minneapolis, thanks for the charming place to get away from the city and appreciate God’s creation”Becky,Candi,Pam&GwenMinneapolis,MN

"This is a great place to stay, it felt like being at a friends cabin-very cozy pleasant. We loved the glorious sunsets on the lake, the inquisitive chipmunks, the brilliant stars, the warm days and cool nights. For two city girls we couldn’t have asked for a better north woods cabin"
