Le Sautaire is a traditional Provencal farmhouse at the edge of its own hamlet, which we have carefully restored with help from an architect. Spacious and cool with 3000 sq ft of living space on two floors. It has an acre of garden surrounded by 20 acres of its own vines in a peaceful valley with panoramic views of Montagne Sainte-Victoire and the Grand Luberon. It is situated in the Luberon National Park in the midst of an area of charming chateaux, medieval villages, provencal markets, festivals and cultural activities. Perfectly situated for the Aix Festival in July. The Mediterranean is an hours drive away.

Grambois, 2 km away, is a ‘village perché’, with an ancient church and attractive village square. It is perfectly kept. Walk around it for intimate and distant views. It has a boulangerie, mini supermarket, restaurants, cafe/bar, post office and Sunday morning market.

The farmhouse is light and airy, decorated by us for our retirement to a high standard using traditional provencal materials including antiques and country furniture, with terracota tiles throughout. Accommodation comprises: upstairs 4 double bedrooms with high beamed ceilings, 2 twin bedded, 2 en-suite plus a large salon with twin beds/sofas for day use or as an additional bedroom. The master bedroom has a huge picture window looking over the vines to Montagne Sainte-Victoire. There are separate shower rooms on each floor. Downstairs the family kitchen leads onto the South facing terrace for summer eating. It is equipped to a high standard with all the usual amenities plus a French Lacanche stove and a dining table for ten. An arch leads to a spacious salon with original beams and sofas grouped around the traditional fireplace. There is a small additional salon/den. A separate utility room houses the washing machine, and an additional fridge and freezer.

We have restored Le Sautiare for our retirement but are happy to share it over the summer months. You will find the house equipped for family living with generous quantities of cockery, cutlery, cooking and serving utensiles - and loads of books!

The landscaped garden has matured and offers several shady terraces and there are paths to stroll through the vines and woods. The beautiful pool is surrounded by a large hardwood sundeck equipped with loungers. There is a court for boules or volley ball.

Le Sautaire is within an hour's drive of the historical towns of Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, Arles and Marseille. It is close to the famous Luberon villges of Menerbes, Roussillon and Gordes and the antiques capital of France, Isle sur la Sorgue. The local scenery is outstanding and spectacular sites such as the Gorges du Verdun and the Fontaine de Vaucluse are within driving distance. Cultural festivals include music at Aix and the piano festival at Roque d'Antheon. And then there is the wine! Each village has its cave and there are many 'Chateaux' where sampling is on offer. We provide brochures and information sheets on things to do in the area, particularly details of market days and restaurants. Our latest information sheet is a guide to local vineyards.

This is what guests have said:

Your home was the highlight of 3 beautiful weeks exploring Provence with friends and family. It was a little difficult to tear ourselves away from le Sautaire in order to go exploring. We swam, made up rules for boules, drank wine and baked fresh fig tarts. We appreciated all your helpful information. It led us to good restaurants, special ice cream and fun provincial markets. . Australian visitors 2007.

We want to thank you so much for making La Sautaire what it is! We really enjoyed it and found it to be even more than we expected because we couldn't fully appreciate the gardens from the internet pictures. The lavender was gorgeous. The kitchen is so well stocked. Anything we might have wanted was there. The wine bottle in the fridge was a great welcome! US visitors. 2006

I believe that Le Sautaire and Provence will remain the highlight for 2005 for us. The house reflects warmth, charm, taste, hominess and all the qualities we looked for for our vacation. Everyone felt so much at home that we dined out only twice. To everyone’s acclaim, the other evenings were spent at home cooking in whatever struck the fancy of the designated cook. We had a fabulous time tasting local cheeses, jambon, olives washed down with great Cote de Luberon wines(the chardonnay and a bottled red were the best) from the cave at the foot of Grambois hill.
