Escape the hustle and enjoy the north woods as it is meant to be--with pristine, unspoiled vistas, peace, and quiet. We are located on a peninsula on the 200 acre Wind Pudding Lake with 450 feet of frontage and water on three sides. Our house is situated just 50 feet for the shore and commands panoramic 180 degree views.
You will see no neighbors and and have this virtually undeveloped lake for yourself! This lake has limited public access, no resorts, so you can enjoy the serenity. The lake is a beautiful combination of open water with 34 foot depths and areas of lily pads and sedge grasses that attracts a variety of birds and fish. The lake front is very beautiful, unspoiled, very quiet, and teeming with wildlife. One can enjoy geese, sandhill cranes, bald eagles, loons, flocks of ducks, and a beaver from our deck overlooking the lake. The lake is home to small mouth bass, northern pike, crappie, bluegill, bullhead and walleye.
However, the north woods is still recovering from a prolonged drought and lake levels throughout the region, including ours, are down, but rapidly rising. This spring we have had lots of rainfall. However this summer the larger part of our 200 acre lake may be inaccessible by boat from our pier. But there is a beautiful, usable part of the lake directly in front of our house. So if you are looking to water ski, use jet skis, motor boat, our lake is not where you would want to vacation. If, however, you wish to have peaceful, relaxing vacation with complete privacy (there are no neighbors in sight), where you can swim, enjoy the eagles nesting on the nearby island, do a little canoeing, fish for something other than trophy fish, we can't be beat.
From our deck watch the bald eagles nesting on the island near our home, listen to the call of the loons, enjoy the sand hill cranes, geese, pintail ducks, and other water fowl. Or study our closest neighbors, the beavers, as they go about their daily rounds. Hike in the 220,000 acre Northern Highland State Forest that abuts our property, fish, hunt, bike. Or take the short leisurely drive to nearby Minocqua to enjoy their restaurants, shop, golf, or take in a ski show.
Autumn provides spectacular colors; winter offers great snowmobiling and cross country skiing in the area.
This new home, just completed in June of 2007, lets your enjoy the unspoiled wilderness outside and modern luxuries inside. This home has a prow front with deck, spacious living room, dining room, complete kitchen with all the amenities and a great view of the lake, hickory floors, vaulted master bedroom with private bath, two additional bedrooms with a double bed in one and a bunk bed in the other. We provide you a barbecue for your cookouts, a secluded pier for sunning, a 12 foot row boat, and a canoe.

We were very pleased with our stay here! The location is beautiful and offers views of local wildlife in a very peaceful setting. The home is exceptionally clean and includes virtually everything you will need during your stay. Only 15 minutes from Minocqua, so if you're not into fishing there are lots of other things you can do closeby, including horseback riding, biking, go carts, shopping, great restaraunts (you have to check out the Thirsty Whale!), and on and on. We rented bikes in Minocqua and checked out the Bearskin Trail, which is really beautiful. Even just biking around the local roads is great. This particular lake isn't the place for watersports like skiing or boating due to low water levels, but that is mentioned in the description above. Don't let the rough driveway scare you - this one is a real gem!

Deluxe Cabin on Peaceful Lake

Brand new home with an impressive attention to detail--full kitchen with utensils, extra blankets, few movies, and board games. While a lot of lakes in the area are low, including this one, we were able to fish right in front of the cabin. Caught Northern Pike and Bluegill (and released them) along with seeing plenty of Largemouth Bass and Perch in the crystal clear water. Cabin is centrally located, yet far enough away to be incredibly peaceful and quiet. Great watching the bald eagles attending their nest on the nearby island and there's even an active beaver lodge a few hundred feet from the home.

This property is not what it is advertised as!

We traveled 6 hours to this property expecting a beautiful lake vacation and were extremely disappointed to discover that the advertised "200 acre lake" had dried up to about only 10 acres of open water. There was no opportunity to swim, boat or fish due to the very limited lake area. The home itself was nice and it was peaceful, however it was not a lake vacation. Further, the owners were unreasonable and not at all responsive when we complained about the disparity between the listing and the actual property. A place ot avoid on all accounts.
Owner response:We do our best to inform potential renters of the current lake levels before they rent. We have a lengthy description of the lake in the text of this website for all to read. Whispers of the Wilderness
