APTOS OVERVIEW
-----------------
This area bordering the Monterey Bay is truly nature's playground. It is believed by some that when the Native Americans named this part of the county, they called it Awatos - "Where the Waters Meet." The name honors the spot where two creeks joined before traveling together to the bay. Today it's called Aptos.

You will find people living in everything from rustic mountain cabins in the redwoods to sprawling contemporary homes on the golf course. It follows that the sights of Aptos are equally diverse. Within a few minutes, you can go from the nature trails of a redwood forest to the relaxed elegance of Seascape Resort. Most likely, you will meet the same people in both places. This is a spot where nature and modern life get along just fine together.

Aptos Village itself is just a tiny dot on the local map, but it is well worth the visit. The old Bayview Hotel anchors this quaint shopping district, comprised mainly of friendly little shops and restaurants. A visit to the Cafe Sparrow is a must. This French-inspired cafe is a local favorite for Sunday brunch or casual dinners.

Down on the shore at Seacliff State Beach, you'll certainly want to inspect the remains of the Palo Alto, an experimental ship constructed of concrete. It made just one short voyage back in 1919 before dropping anchor here to become a restaurant and dance hall. Today, only the pelicans, seagulls, and fishermen occupy its once-grand hull.

In this place where the waters meet, you'll still find those special qualities here.

Wonderful Beach House/Great Location

Guest: L and G (San Jose, CA)
Date of Stay: 05/20/11 Review Submitted: 06/01/11

This was our first time staying in a beach house located within walking distance of the beach and we loved the convenience! We enjoyed long walks, time at the beach, view from the deck and because of its great location we never had to drive our cars anywhere once we got there. There was plenty of room for two families to share the home. We had a group of teenage girls and it worked well for them to stay in the downstairs room with the futon and their own bathroom. We brought a blow up mattress so they could all sleep comfortably and it was nice that they were able to stay up late without keeping the rest of us up. The kitchen was well stocked, which was important to us as we cooked all our meals in. Other things we liked: plenty of parking, owner who promptly responded to all our questions prior to our stay, photos of home so we had an idea of where everyone would sleep before we got there. It would be easy to recommend this property to others.

Great beach getaway!

Guest: Beachfamily (San Jose, CA)
Date of Stay: 09/09/10 Review Submitted: 09/13/10

We just returned from a wonderful family weekend at this property. It has amazing views, and we were able to walk to and from the beach with our two young children, which was a huge plus. We had another family join us for a night, and had plenty of space for two families of 4 to relax, eat and play. There is a small corner market just down the street (walking distance) for emergency items, and a larger, very nice market within a short drive on Rio Del Mar. The stretch of beach is beautiful, and we saw dolphins and sea lions every day. I highly recommend this property for a family vacation or friends' getaway!

Family reunion

Guest: Mr. Wonderful (Placerville, CA)
Date of Stay: 05/15/08 Review Submitted: 05/09/10

We held a family gathering at the house in May 2008 & are repeating in May 2010. A perfect location with beach & mountain views in an area with a variety of activities. The house felt like a home; not like a timeshare or motel. Easy access. Very affordable for a group. Everything worked well and everything was included. We hope to return every second year.

Great Place

Guest: seaside (california)
Date of Stay: 02/01/08 Review Submitted: 03/06/08

This was a very comfortable home away from home. We rented it with three other couples. It was roomy, cleanand and a wonderful veiw of the ocean. We were there during a storm and to see the wave's hit the cement boat was awesome. Lord willing we plan on renting again. The kitchen had everything we need. We ate all our meals there. Looking forward to the next time.
