My two teenage boys and my mom arrived for three nights and were very happy that the house and surroundings matched what we had seen on the website. The house is spacious and comfortably furnished, and the bedrooms are HUGE. We really enjoyed cooking breakfast in the kitchen, grilling hamburges and hotdogs on the grill, and going out to dinner at local restaurants - much better and more relaxing than staying in a hotel. The view from the back porch over the lake is amazing: a great place for a morning cup of coffee before the teenagers wake up. The stairs leading down to to the boat dock are steep and many, but I got a lot of excercise! We would definitely go back with family or friends again. The owners were very nice. They were able to accomodate my last minute booking and were available by e-mail and phone to answer questions, go over details, and give local recommendations.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

My family and I spent a long weekend at Houston's Hideaway and it was great. The furnishings are very nice and comfortable. My boys are 8 and 10 and they were very happy catching rock bass off the dock. No big fish caught but they didn't care. If I come back to the area for any reason, I plan to detour and stay here again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband, son and I stayed here a week in August and had a fabulous time. The house is beautiful and the view of the lake is gorgeous. We had everything we needed in the house and it was very comfortable. We enjoyed coffee on the deck in the morning and spending time in the lake in the afternoon and evening. We did a lot of hiking which brought us to some amazing waterfalls. Living in a beach community it was nice to get away to a quiet relaxing lake. The week was exactly what we were looking for, relaxing and fun. Definitely plan on staying here again next summer.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Starting with the kindness & responsiveness of the owners, to the wonderful home to the perfect location on the lake ... Houston Hideaway makes for a memorable vacation. Our family of four (two teenage boys) spent a week here in the summer. The stairs were not an issue for us but may be for some renters. We could not get enough of hanging out on the dock and swimming & boating right off the property. Fishing a little slow in late July but that is to be expected. The house itself is impeccably clean and well-maintained. Nothing but great things to say for the entire experience. Thanks for the chance to enjoy your home and the lake.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

Houston Hideaway is a slice of earthly Heaven!!!! The view, the home, the water, the people of the area, and the location are just beautiful and priceless!!! The owners of this home are the most gracious and accommodating people you will find. My family has stayed in many rental places in many areas of Smith Lake, and this has to be the best of all. We love it here, and we will be back. This is now our only choice for our rental home on Smith Lake. My wife and I rented this beautiful property for the week of November 28 to December 5, 2011. This was our first time at Smith lake and we just fell in love with it. We had the most wonderful experience during our stay, and our stress level just vanished gazing at the lake from the deck! The pictures and description of the home on this site do no do justice to the beauty of the home and natural surroundings. An added bonus was just how clean the home was... it was as if a cleaning service had left the house spotless. We absolutely loved sitting on the porch overlooking the lake as we drank our morning coffee... we also enjoyed sitting out while the sun set. We would recommend this property to anyone!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed at Houston Hideaway twice last year... And I loved it both times... It is a very nice place.... We had a great time at your home this past week. All the rooms were large and the beds were comfy. There were eight of us and were able to spread out and enjoy ourselves. The dock was great as well. The ladies spent plenty of time reading on the back deck and the deck overlooking the lake. We will have to do this again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

The house was just what we expected and then some. The photos are helpful, but it is even more beautiful when you are there. The home was very comfortable, relaxing, and clean and the owners were extremely courteous and helpful, always available to assist with any questions or concerns. This was a remarkably spotless, and first class property. The information shown on this page is accurate, the host Ronny is a super sane, very gratious and personable landlord. The back deck, wooden walk way to the lake and sunset, lakeside perch were worth the price ... even without the nice house. If you are looking for a classy, on-the lake getaway ... this is it. I would, and will, stay here again ....Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The house was clean, comfortable, and even nicer than it appears in the photos. There's plenty of private space for swimming beside the dock and the rocky shoreline was amazing. Also, there's a relatively new grocery store in Arley that was great for picking up almost anything we could have needed. Everyone had a great time and felt it was a great value.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

We stay a week at Smith Lake every year. This was the first year at Houston Hideaway, but we will be back! We have two teenage boys and they each brought a friend. There was plenty of room. The beds were comfy, and we liked the self inflating mattress too. Of course the big screen TV and the whirlpool tub were nice treats. Everything is new and beautiful. Houston Hideaway is on a great area of the lake as well. We spend a lot of time on the water and we were concerned about whether we would like the location of the lake house in relation to where it was on the lake. We liked it better than the other areas we have stayed! I really appreciated the promptness in which the owners always got back to us. They were very easy to work with.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

For the 2nd visit, it was as nice as the first. We've stayed at six different places on this lake and this is the most accommodating owners we've come across. This cabin is the best equipped and a very clean place to stay. Beware of listings on VRBO that don't offer visitors comments! We don't believe those places are interested in repeat visitors. My family stayed at Houston's Hideaway for Labor Day 2007. The house is wonderful! The view from the porch is fantastic and the hike back and forth to the water will keep you in excellent shape! Absolutely a great vacation home. The house has all the usual ammeneties. We felt right at home. It's very peaceful. Nice cool breezy mornings and evenings down at the table overlooking the gorgeous lake. We saw lots of does, rabbits, etc. If you need directions, suggestions, etc. the locals are so helpful & friendly. We had a wonderful stay at Houston's Hideaway Lake House. Great place! Pictures can not do it justice. A perfect, quiet morning porch view and a nice cup of coffee makes for a great way to start the day. Lake is a beautiful, clear, winding paradise for all types of boaters. House looks and feels new, and is excellently provisioned. We really enjoyed our stay at Houston's Hideaway. The view is great. The house is very comfortable. We enjoyed the wild life that we saw also.(fox, armadillos, hummingbirds and raccoons) Oh, and my husband caught about 25 large mouth bass while we were there. What a great house! All the amenities you could ask for - tastefully decorated. We relaxed on the covered porch and had dinner alfresco - it was wonderful. It's a little bit of a breathtaking hike back up the stairway from the boat house/deck but definitely worth it - great view of the lake from the deck by the water and the boathouse.
