Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: I am a creative director of a local advertising agency. My job and my personal interests mean I am often out of town and I lease out my house when I am gone, investing the money back into the house to make it nicer for the next renter.
I grew up internationally and have done the same in my adult life, living in London, Paris and, domestically, in New York. Additionally, I travel extensively for pleasure, always as far as I can go. As a result, my home is a working travelers guide. A bibelot from this country, a painting from that. My aesthetic is the glamorous side of mid-century modern.
Why the Owner Chose Clarksville: I first lived in the area when I was a student at University of Texas. And then to New York after graduation. But as luck would have it, when I returned 20 years later I was able to find a house on the very same street as I lived on before! The house is as close to downtown as you can get while still having a yard.
I like the elegant nature of an older home. And this one, built in 1915, is elegant but with a modern and relaxed sensibility.
The Unique Benefits at this House: The home features everything you'd expect form an older home: a wide front porch, complete with columns and ceiling fans; 10 foot high ceilings; original longleaf pine floors. What is doesn't have is all the things you'd expect of an older home: poor heating and cooling; drafts; sloppy renovations; and doilies on every surface.
