Family weekend

Guest: Esther (Ashland VA)
Date of Stay: 08/19/10 Review Submitted: 08/25/10

Our family had a great time at the Henhouse which is quite large. The house has a wonderful location on the lake and a dock which our grandchildren enjoyed jumping off of. Steve & Debbie, the owners of the house, and Tina, the caretaker, were all very accommodating. When we reported that the AC filters were dirty, Tina brought in new ones the next day. We had 14 family members there and we could all fit at the two tables in the dining room. We rented a pontoon for 2 days from a marina that Steve recommended and we were able to tied it up at the dock over night. We have many great family memories from our long weekend at the Henhouse. One of our granddaughters said she wished it would never end.

Great Getaway

Guest: One of the Hens (Richmond, VA)
Date of Stay: 07/19/10 Review Submitted: 07/24/10

We stayed at the Henhouse and it was a wonderfully relaxing vacation. The home was comfortable for all of us. At one time we had 14, and everyone slept peacefully and undisturbed, with room for even more if needed. The two lofts are the coolest things ever. The teens stayed on the Northside and watched movies, with adults right below playing games and you would never know it. The 2 kitchens were great for prepping meals with The Bistro offering great views of the lake. We were not able to get cell service, which was WONDERFUL, and with the tv's in the lofts, the kids talked and played, and never got to text, adults disconnected from life and totally enjoyed our vacation. The porch was pleasant, even with record temps in the area, you would never know it was as hot as it was. The main bedooms beds were as comfortable as any bed I've slept in. Awesome. Futons for the teens and young kids were easy, and they never felt they were crowded. Those lofts could sleep 50 per side. It was great. We rented a boat from Holly Grove Marina and a speedboat from Morningstar Marina and it was great for all of us to enjoy the lake. Tina the caretaker came by to check on us, and take trash out daily but was never intrusive. With all linens provided, all we needed were lake towels, which is a nice touch. The kids fished right off the deck which as the owner stated, is literally about 20 feet from the house, and were able to clean and prep our catch at your fish cleaning station below. The kitchen had every tool needed to make great meals with plenty of dishes for large groups. Even having spices there made for easier packing for us. We made great meals using the spices you have there for guests. GREAT vacation. VERY relaxing. Just what the Dr. ordered. Owners are very accommodating, and house is EXCELLENT for large groups, teens, and short getaways. Pictures don't do the size and space of this house justice. Would go back again in a heartbeat. THANKS!

We had 6 couples and 7 children under the age of 3 at the house for a long weekend this summer. There was plenty of room for everyone. The babies could nap undisturbed. We set up a kiddie pool on the back porch. The furnishings were very comfortable, the kitchens well-equipped. We could not have asked for a better deal! Thank you, Steve!

We had a family reunion over the 4th of July weekend at the Henhouse, and had a fabulous time! Over 30 people attended, ranging from one year old to those in their 60's, and there was plenty of space for everyone. 21 slept in the house, and the others were in hotels which were a convenient 5 to 15 minute drive. The kitchens are well equipped, and the layout convenient. The caretaker, Tina, made sure our every need was met. Thank you Steve, for being so accomodating! We highly recommend the Henhouse for a reunion or vacation. We would love to return next year!

I planned a weekend at The Henhouse for my parents and 2 brothers' families. We had a great time. The house/lake was beautiful. The kitchens were well furnished. Plenty of room for everyone and decorated elegantly but with comfort in mind. We are looking forward to planning another visit soon.

The Henhouse is an excellent property, I spent 4 relaxing days with a group of friends, the house had every necessity we needed; the dock amazing along with the wrap-around verandana. And Tina, the Caretaker was quite helpful and friendly. We'll definitely be rebooking!

We have just returned from the HenHouse where we enjoyed a family reunion this past week. This home exceeded our expectations. The 2 lofts were perfect for the cousins..offering plenty of games, books, movies, the pool table and 2 widescreen televisions to play video games etc. The two kitchens were well supplied and perfect for our teens/adults. The home was spacious and offered a perfect view and access to the lake. We look forward to returning next summer! Thanks again to Tina the concierge who made sure our needs were met! We had an AMAZING time at this incredible house while we were there at the end of June. There were four couples, each of us with two children. Altogether, eight kids between the ages of 2-6 years of age but there was plenty of room for them to spread out and play. They also loved sleeping together in the loft, while the adults played pool and enjoyed themselves in the other loft without disturbing the sleeping children. The two kitchens were wonderful and the long wrap around veranda made for lots of shaded places to play even on a hot summer day. It was a long drive for us (14+ hours) but well worth it to meet up with our American friends. We will definitely be coming back and staying even longer the next time! We have been raving about this place to friends and family! Thank you as well to Tina, the caretaker. She was friendly and made sure that we had everything we needed.

There were eight of us, four couples, and we sure enjoyed our weekend at the Henhouse during the weekend of February 9, 10, and 11. The house of warm and comfortable. We enjoyed cooking in the main kitchen and sitting at the huge dining room table. This room looks out over the lake with ducks swimming by and is so peaceful. What a fun filled and relaxing weekend. We hope to return soon. We want to say thank you to the lady who looks after the property. She was right on hand to check on us and to offer her help. We recommend the Henhouse as a delightful place to stay.
