Several years ago in a note, a writer on vacation here named our home "HUMMINGBIRD COTTAGE." The extensive flower garden and fountain out by the Veranda attract hummingbirds, butterflies and a variety of other birds who sing and chirp all day long. There is always something blooming in the garden and we love our guests to experience the beauty and tranquility the garden provides.
The atmosphere is that of a Cape Cod cottage with a lot of stained glass, brick, stonework, barnwood, and three floor-to-ceiling river rock fireplaces. The kitchen has an open-beam ceiling, fireplace, huge rock maple chopping block, tiled walls, barnwood & glass cabinets and a brick floor. The entry with its wine collection is also done in old barnwood with a brick floor, stone bench, and a spectacular hand painted garden mural on the wall. Downstairs is the living room with another stone fireplace filled with a variety of candles and two big "puffy" leather sofas, a full bathroom, and office with 'on line' computer, wi-fi and fax. French doors lead out to the very private rear patio with an extra shower which is great when tanning or returning from the beach.
Upstairs is the master suite and private bathroom. There is a California king-size bed, table, chairs, and another gas fireplace. All windows have white plantation shutters. Laundry is in the attached garage. All lighting is dimmer-controlled.
Close to everything and a very short walk to the ocean, pier, and downtown Surf City, Hummingbird Cottage is a GREAT place to come home to. In the afternoons, the front Veranda is great with a glass of wine, and in the quiet of evening you can just about hear the surf break. It is ideal for a couple, but we also have a Frontgate EZ BED - roll in, inflatable, off-the-floor comfortable queen sized bed that fits between the two sofas in the living room. Leaving both sofas free to sit on or even sleep "little ones". Everything you need is right here. Come visit and enjoy the warmth of Hummingbird Cottage.
Furnished complete with linens, cozy robes, towels, beach towels, sheets, down comforter, etc., there is a gas barbecue in the patio area, darts, 4 bicycles, cable TV, stereo with front & rear exterior speakers, CD/DVD, VCR, computer with DSL high-speed internet and wi-fi, etc. The living room and bedroom each have remote controlled movie screens in the ceiling (great for slide viewing). Washer and dryer are in the attached garage as is a workbench, and there is additional space for 'off street' parking.
Activities here are endless. Great dining & local gyms, Huntington Beach and its adjacent Newport Beach & Fashion Island, Balboa Island, Laguna Beach, Corona Del Mar, Seal Beach, and Long Beach (Aquarium of the Pacific, Queen Mary, etc.)have the best of everything.You can see Long Beach from here. Disneyland & Knotts Berry Farm are very close. San Diego and Sea World are a short drive south as is Los Angeles to the north. Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead are a one and one-half hour drive away, as is Palm Springs.

This is a VERY custom 1,100 square foot single family two-story home. NOT a studio, duplex, condo or add-on apartment. Nor is it 'wedged' between other homes and has alley access! My husband, Brian and I wanted our own beach getaway and bought Hummingbird Cottage as a second home for our family and friends. We fell in love with its charm and felt such peace and warmth the minute we walked through the front door. We now enjoy sharing it with people from all over the world and have met some incredible new friends through sharing our delightful Hummingbird Cottage!

We love the ocean breezes and enjoy riding bikes through the quiet neighborhood to the beach. Downtown Main Street is inviting to every personality with its qaint cafes, stylish shops and music for every taste at many of the bars. Hummingbird Cottage has one of the most comfortable beds you will ever sleep on and is commented on by many of our guests. A great benefit is our PRIME location. We enjoy being close to all of the attractions in Orange County, Los Angeles and even San Diego. There is definitely something magical about this adorable and comfortable home that invites you in and warms your heart while you stay.

Just wanted to let you know how pleased my husband and I were with our stay at Hummingbird Cottage. We were in HB to visit our son, and we enjoyed staying in a home so much more than staying in a hotel. The house is charming, and the photos accurately show the living areas, but the reality is even better. There are so many gathering spaces, from the family room to the spacious kitchen, to the relaxing outdoor areas. We loved having our son come over for dinner, or to simply relax and have a glass of wine on the patio. I loved the upstairs bedroom with the sun shining in--there were so many windows on almost all sides. The location is convenient to everything. We love spending time on Mainstreet, and walking the beach, and both are nearby. This was our first experience at renting a home through an online website, and it turned out to be just perfect. It was pleasure to deal with Michelle, the owner. Hummingbird Cottage was just what we were looking for.

Just wanted to give a little update to all who read our comments and are excited about a potential vacation to Huntington Beach... The city has been undergoing a "face lift" with new businesses and buildings going up... lots more shopping and great new restaurants... Every Tuesday evening, all of Main Street becomes a Farmer's Market and Street Fair with Live Music, crafts for the kids and vendors selling clothing, jewlery, crafts, food and lots of neat things! Hummingbird Cottage was just painted on the outside and is sparkling and ready for our Holiday Travelers. Your beautiful cottage was the perfect place to rejuvenate, inspire and renew my spirit. The soft morning light; the amazing breeze flowing throughout the house; the birds and sweet blossoms just outside the door: it was perfect. And the endless yoga and meditation on the beach was icing on the cake, making it an experience I'll never forget. Thank you for the healing energy of Hummingbird Cottage. Recently, I visited a close friend of mine who lives in the Huntington Beach area. After reviewing VRBO, I chose to stay at the Hummingbird Cottage. The Hummingbird Cottage is a very unique and enchanting home. From the beautiful gardens out front with the fountain and the cherubs to greet you at the door, to the lovely mural when you walk inside, to the warm and cozy kitchen and living room area (each with its own rustic stone fireplace), to the very large master suite upstairs with lovely stained glass windows and an extremely comfortable bed (and another fireplace!), it was everything I expected and more! Additionally, the patio out in back was perfect for enjoying a lazy afternoon reading a book or perhaps having a friendly dart game or two. There is also a gas grill on the patio for those cool evening bbq's. The neighborhood is very quiet, and with the pier and downtown only a few blocks away, Hummingbird Cottage is the perfect vacation spot for those seeking a place to unwind, relax and rejuvenate the spirit. I had a truly memorable experience staying at the Hummingbird Cottage, and I am sure you will too.

What a wonderful place to visit! My husband and I felt very much at home at Hummingbird Cottage. You've thought of everything to make staying there a wonderful and relaxing experience. The cottage is clean and much nicer than the photos portray. The bed is awesome -- a great sleeper! We enjoyed our daily walks to the pier. The neighborhoods are charming and safe. We loved the location. It was convenient to everything we wanted to do from theme parks, beaches, presidential libraries, upscale shopping and A's baseball to pure relaxtion. We visited during winter break with our 2 daughters in 2005. We wanted to visit Disney and all the sites but wanted to have a more cozy place than a hotel room. Hummingbird Cottage was perfect. It was a nice to get up and have a relaxing breakfast together in our jammies and then head out to the parks. We loved the pier down in town and got to see our first wild dolphins there. Hummingbird Cottage has a wonderful "AURA" that is present the moment you arrive. We stayed for two months in 2005 and found peacefulness and rest within. The owner has carefully thought of every detail to make quests comfortable and welcome. It is truely an escape to rest and relax and meditate. My husband and I and our two sons (8 & 11) stayed at the Hummingbird Cottage in August of 2005. By pure luck a late cancellation for Michelle ended up being a blessing for us. We have family in Huntington Beach and wanted to stay close by. The Hummingbird Cottage fit the bill. Little did we know how wonderful it would be! Michelle has made everything about this house just so easy for folks -- including her friendly and easy going nature. All the amenities of a beach vacation are at your feet -- from bicycles to beach towels! The quaintness of the kitchen and porch are just wonderful and the master suite was a wonderful retreat for my husband and I. We could not have asked for a better place to stay and plan on staying there again!
