"The Montreal House" - Old World Elegance, Modern Amenities

Year Purchased: 2004

Why the Owner Chose Montreal

We bought this house from the ORIGINAL owners who bought it back in 1890, and had passed it down from generation to generation. So, even though they decided to sell it, they were extremely concerned that it go to someone who would cherish it as much as they did. We completely renovated it while keeping all of its original character and I have to say, it's a warm and inviting house that has been well-loved for over a century.

The Unique Benefits at this House

The single most wonderful thing about our property is that we are on the plateau in the center of Montreal, and yet we live on a quiet, tree-lined street. You will feel a little like you are in Europe because everything in the neighborhood is unique - from the butcher and the baker to the cheese shop that boasts the most amazing selection of cheese, deli and coffee. The restaurants are steps away, as are stores and cafes. It's one of the French speaking areas of Montreal but people are very friendly and speak English too!

A
Mont-Royal Park

This is a Montreal's largest park and at the top of its highest point is the illuminated "cross" which was put up in honor of Georges-tienne Cartier, who claimed this land for France. Mount Royal is

B
Schwartz's Smoked Meat Restaurant

The world famous smoked meat deli is literally only a few hundred yards from the house. Also, on this street are all the butchers, cheese shops, bakers, and delicatessens.

C
St-Denis Street

Full of cafes, restaurants, shops, and jazz clubs. It is the main street in French-speaking Montreal and is full of life and activity.

D
Duluth Street

Home to both family and romantic restaurants where you can bring your own wine!!

Owner's Map of Montreal

Hi, thanks for looking at our property. I was raised in Montreal and bought this house because I would like to return to Montreal in the coming years. My best friends, who manage the property, live two doors down so it's a perfect situation. I am a psychotherapist who is training to be an analyst, so this is where I come to relax and unwind every year. The kitchen, which we added, is my dream kitchen, and every time I am in Montreal it is where my friends and I meet to share old memories and create new ones.

Hi Kerry, Just a quick note to say how much we enjoyed our stay in your house. All the little touches like the bath robes, coffee, bath puff were fantastic. It was so easy to get places and the little Portuguese store was so good to use when I realised we had run out of things just before breakfast! We have stayed in many holiday rentals and yours is definitely in the top 3. Take care Liz

Hi, Kerry-- I just wanted again to thank you for allowing us to use your home for our stay in Montreal. We had a fabulous time, and my brother and sister-in-law are still raving about it to my parents. Having a wonderful home base was an important part of our getaway...if you are interested, we may elect to rent it again for the Jazz Festival next year. Anyway, thanks so much. Take care. Linda

Kerry, Thank you for making your house available for our trip. Your home is beautiful, extremely comfortable, well equipped, and it could not possibly have been better located. Ingrid did a great job of orienting us and was available when we needed her. We will happily recommend your house to anyone with an interest in visiting Montreal. Best regards, Michael O'Brien

    • The photo's on the web do not the property justice, the kitchen is magnificent with its beautiful cabinetry and high-end stainless steel appliances. We spent a lot of quality time in the living room and the room off the kitchen, we appreciated the in-house stereo system and the great classical music. The bedrooms were spacious and the bedding and linens were first class. The bathrooms were light and bright with first class Grohe fixtures. Not having been to Montreal for many years I was unfamiliar with The Plateau section of town. We felt very safe in the neighborhood and enjoyed walking to the shops and restaurants in the neighborhood. We went to the Canadian Grand Prix at the Gilles Villenuve Track on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and used the Metro to get there and back. It makes me appreciate the mass transit systems that serve the major Canadian cities. Ingrid was great, she met us at the house when we arrived and gave us a tour and some instructions along with some recommendations on where to eat in the area. Overall, we had a fantastic trip to Montreal and enjoyed your beautiful property. I would highly recommend it for any one looking for a charming and modern home in Montreal.

    • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Montreal house! Plenty of room for all 6 of us. The house was wonderful, very well equipped. The neighborhood was great, we're missing the baguettes and pastries we had for breakfast each morning. It was nice having the computer too, handy for looking up tourist info, or printing a map. Thanks for a great vacation!

Kerry, I just wanted to thank you for providing my friends and I with such a fantastic house for the weekend. Everything exceeded our expectations by far. We could not have been more impressed by the house itself and the conveniences provided in it. The Montreal House will be my first choice the next time I come to Quebec! All the best, Zachary Bloom

    • We have stayed in this house for almost 6 months with our 2 children ( 10 and 14) and have had a most amazing time. Kerry ( the owner) has been accessible, understanding and efficient when we needed things. Her friends Lindsay and Augusta who live 2 doors away were always on hand and made us feel part of the neighbourhood. The house is more than comfortable, it's warm ( and we had temeratures of - 12C) and the kitchen is a dream to cook in - everything is at your fingertips. The kigsize bed and the huge bathrooms have been so luxurious we are going to have trouble getting back to our old bedroom at home. The kids loved their rooms and queen sized beds particularly my boy who had a little balcony at tree height to sit and watch the world go by. The neighbours have been wonderful and we have had a number of dinner invitations. The kicker is that the whole place is silent! You might think being in the middle of the Plateau (probably one of the most lively and diverse areas of Montreal) might have meant alot of noise, traffic etc - but it is the opposite. Everyone in the neighbourhood knows it and keeps it a secret! One of our favorite pastimes was trying a new restaurant once a week - well there's no way you can get through all the portugese, vietnamese, afgani, italian ect places even if you had a few years! We have had halloween and christmas here and the street comes alive with kids. During the summer, stoop time is about 8pm when everyone sits out on the steps infront of their houses with a glass of wine and enjoys watching the sunset through the beautiful canopy of the maples. It's magic - I couldn't reccommend it more highly. To 3982, thank you for making our time in montreal unforgettable. Steven Faux and family

My friends and I loved it very much as it made our vacation so much more comfortable. In addition, Lindsey, Augusta, and yourself were all very hospitable and friendly, which was also greatly appreciated. We look forward to staying there again in the future. Regards, Dave
