The condo was as described. It was quiet and close to shopping. Great base for exploring the island. Owner was responsive to any questions we had. It was clean when we arrived and we enjoyed our stay.Recommended for: Age 55+

Kailua-Kona and Kona Shores was a great location for us. There were so many wonderful beaches a short drive north or south of the condo. Glen, the owner, gives great suggestions for the best beaches, sites and restaurants to explore. He was always quick to answer and e-mails or questions. We enjoyed the big private patio with a view of the ocean where we ate most of our meals. If you put food in the bird feeders you can enjoy visits from some of of the Island's beautiful birds. The condo is the best in this older development. It is spacious and very comfortable. There is a very nice pool and BBQ area with a wonderful view of the ocean and sunset. The many residents were friendly and helpful. This unit and location was a good choice for us. There are a few down sides but if you are not bothered by them take advantage of this condo for your Hawaiian stay. The bath tub/shower is old, stained and needs replacing. The floor tile is in need of a really good cleaning. Sometimes there were small ants in the kitchen and bathroom but really not bothersome. We mentioned this to Glen. He was going to have the exterminator come in to take care of that. We would recommend this condo.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing.

My husband and I stayed for 8 nights and thorougly enjoyed ourselves! I was initially enchanted with the picture of the windows all around and they were exactly as pictured! Everything was clean and well maintained. We were able to get into the unit a little earlier with some help from the owner and the cleaning woman. Glen, the owner, was always very responsive to any questions we had. The oceanside pool is marvelous. The unit is close to Kona, which is really nice. We would definitely stay here again and are already recommending it to others. Thank you!Recommended for: Romantic getaway

It was better than expected. We were on our honeymoon and your place was perfect for us to relax and enjoy. The lanai is AWESOME. Spent a night sleeping on the futon enjoying the ocean sounds. The ocean view from the lanai is small, but the sunset was right in the middle. Picture Perfect. Bought some bird seed to fill the feeder and enjoyed watching all the birds come to visit...cardinals, finches, sparrows, doves, etc. If we come back to celebrate our anniversary we hope your place will be available. Thanks for everything.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.

My wife and I have spent time here on several occasions and we are never disappointed.... Everything exists exactly as described; the main reason we keep coming back is the personal privacy that you can enjoy on this corner end unit. The glass sliding doors (there are 3 of them) that open to the lanai allow you to enjoy the tropical gardens and the small bird feeder attracts the local songbirds including the cardinals, canarys and saffron finches. There is even a comfortable sofa outside to relax and read and admire the foilage and fauna in your small tropical paradise. For the both of us, this place is like a second home, morning coffee on the little glass dinette table outside is a pleasant way to start the day. There is a partial view of the ocean from the unit, but a one minute stroll to the BBQ and pool area allows excellent viewing of some dramatic sunsets. Newly installed flagstone tiles around the poolside and picnic area makes this an attractive place to be to grill your dinner over real charcoal (there are no gas BBQ's here) Just another reason to come down early, lit your briquets, walk down to the edge of the ocean or sit by the pool side to watch the sun sink in to the distance along the horizon. The recent addition of a water fountain just adds to the serenity. Great photos can be taken with the palm trees in the foreground as the day slowly comes to a close. You have the option of enjoying your meal in the covered patio area or you can bring it back to your lanai and dine in candlight.outside in the garden patio, Parking is located just steps away from your unit and you are the closest one to the laundry unit. To walk into town, it is just a short trip of 15 to 20 minutes, and next door you have the Aloha Nail salon and Green Flash Coffee bistro. For oceanfront access this place is ideal. Just like living like a local in a tropical paradise. ....Chris & Shelley - Vancouver BCRecommended for: Age 55+
Owner response: Chris & Shelley: These guest visitors have come to our 1 BR unit a number of times over the years--even before marriage. Wonderful review--this is why we love this unit too. Also, Kailua-Kona is unspoiled (not too busy) and the complex has predominantly local owners or renters that make you feel like you are part of the local scene--and resulting in an uncrowded, great location, swimable pool. I can't image ever staying in a hotel! This was an incredible 1 bedroom condo that had everything we needed for a fun 1 week on the Big Island! It felt like we were outside because of the floor to ceiling windows, the natural light was abundant. The kitchen had everything we needed to make breakfast, lunch and dinner every night. Every morning we enjoyed breakfast on the patio with an ocean view. The best part of this condo was the beach closet - which had everything we needed - boogie board, chairs, umbrella, cooler, and there were even ice packs in the freezer. I felt like my home was transplanted to the Big Island. The area was safe and secure and walking distance to the center of town (we watched the parade one day). We also enjoyed watching the sunset at the pool that overlooked the ocean. Thank you!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway.

A note of thanks to you and Ginny for having us to your condo in Kona. We really enjoyed our stay and hope we can visit again soon. Your instructions were much appreciated and informative. You might mention that Makalei Golf course is close and very reasonable for those inclined. I wanted to say MAHALO and that your place is very nice and accommodation.Did you find this review helpful? Glen, wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our first visit to your condo! It had everything we needed (including beach chairs) and turned out to be the perfect location for us. We SO enjoyed sitting on the lanai in the mornings and evenings when it was cooler. One morning we spotted a school of dolphins going by;that was really fun! We had a guidebook with us, but the additional ones you were really helpful too and were well used. The smoothie stand almost next door was a nice plus too. We would definitely stay there again if the opportunity arises.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Once again we want to thank you and Ginny for sharing your home with us. We are feeling very comfortable there. It is so quiet and peaceful. We remembered to buy bird food this year, and we were sure to leave some for the next occupants. The new carpet was installed upstairs (vrbo #10605) on the 29th (Dec.). Beautiful color, and I got to walk on it in my bare feet, felt like walking on a cloud! They are going to install the carpet in #116 tomorrow, January 5. The upstairs unit is also very beautiful.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/1

You have a very lovely condo--so quiet--exactly what we wanted. We treated it as it was our home. We had a simply wonderful time. Every day we went snorkeling; there were sea turtles. One early morning at the beach 3 miles south we swam almost across the bay with a turtle. At City of Refuge--two steps--one was swimming right at me.Did you find this review helpful? My now fiance and I stayed at this condo back in 2003 when we made our first trip to the Big Island of Hawaii. We absolutely loved the location of this condo complex since it's right in the middle of downtown Kona with lots of enterainment and restaurants but it still wasn't very crowded. Especially loved the huge pool sitting on top of a lava point where we could just go walk down on the rocks by the ocean...that trip helped lead to where we're at right now getting married! Because we were so impressed with this condo, we've chosen to return to Kona Shores for the 2nd week of our honeymoon on the Big Island; however, we're staying in the 2BR instead mostly because of the jacuzzi. :) Highly recommend!!!
