Cape Charles house description
'Sunset View' is one of the restored historic homes in Cape Charles. Listed in the 'Off Route 13' guide book as the house with 58 windows, it is ideally located just 300 feet from the beach. From the first and second floor sun rooms you have great views of the dunes and the bay as well as the spectacular Cape Charles sunsets.
When you are not enjoying being at 'home' or at the beach, there is a free fishing pier a block from the house and it is a short two block walk to the main street that has the Gull Hummock Gourmet Shop and Kelly's Gingernut Pub (a converted bank building with seating in the vault and everything from burgers to prime rib). In the next block you will find the public library, a real estate shop that also sells an eclectic selection of furnishings, the Brown Dog Ice Cream Shop (all the ice cream is made on the premises), and several gift and art shops. Not to be missed is Watson's almost world famous Hardware. It is the old fashioned kind where you can find just about everything you want or need and a lot you don't (I just bought a sausage stuffer there). Next to Watson's is the Hook-U-Up gourmet take out and next to that is the Bad Girlz Collective, a gift shop with women's fashions. Next comes the Cape Charles Coffee House that is in a must see restored haberdashery. They serve breakfast and lunch and fabulous homemade desserts and pastries.
Golf cart rentals are available for getting around town and they are great fun.
In the next block is the restored Palace Theater and its adjacent art gallery and gift shop an several other shops and the Breezes Day Spa. You also don't want to miss Periwinkles, a higher end consignment shop; Drizzles, a specialty shop where you can taste various olive oils, balsamic, salts and spices. Moonrise Jewelry has some very unusual pieces that are manufactured on sight and sold around the country.
Back at 'home' the wide front porch offers loads of seating with a number of rocking chairs. A great place to relax and watch the sun go down across the bay. Inside the home there is plenty of room to spread out or to congregate. The living room is brightly decorated with comfortable seating and the first floor sun room is right off the living room. There are three tables and plenty of seating in the huge dining room but there is also a screened dining porch on the rear of the house. The large kitchen is fully equipped and also has a small table that seats four. A convenient half bath and a laundry room are also located on the first floor.
When it is time to retire, there are four sleeping areas on the second floor. The queen master bedroom has its own bath with glass shower. There is a second queen bedroom as well as a big bedroom that has three twin beds and a queen bed and room to spare. A smaller forth bedroom has a twin bed and a crib along with a writing desk. The hall bath has a tub/shower combination.
Not to be outdone by the first floor, the second floor has a sun room with views that are almost unmatched in Cape Charles.
Among the dining options are Kelly's Gingernut Pub, The Cape Charles Coffee House, Rayfield's Pharmacy (breakfast and lunch), Aqua at King's Creel Marina, The Shanty on the Town harbor, and the Coach House at the golf course plus a number of options outside of town.

Comfortable & Spacious
The house is very spacious, open and comfortable for our family of 7. It would still be large enough for 10. The public beach and fishing pier are just across the street and the shopping area and historic district are within walking distance. We totally enjoyed our stay.

Our family rented this house for a week at the beach and we loved the house. It was so beautiful and comfortable. We had the best beach vacation experience this summer and we owe so much of it to the house and the location of the house. I would recommend this house to any one. We loved the shaded back yard and the character of this house.

We were looking for a place to stay while we were in VA for the AAU Junior Olympic Track and Field. We called Chuck and he was very helpful. We arrvied early on Sunday Morning and Chuck had lights on so we could find our was in the house. The House was very nice, it served our needs of what we need, a place to sleep and feed the boys. It was very clean and it had the items you would have in your home. Washer, Dryer full Kitchen ( Chuck even brought down his grill for us). The one and only set back was everything we needed to do was on the other side of the bridge. If we would have known the area better we would have planed much better. It cost was $12.00 to get to the house and $5.00 to go back over the bridge if it was less then 24 hours. So $17.00 round trip and after 8 days that added up. But my over all experience was great. I would stay again ONLY if I had to stay on that side of the bridge.

Manager response: We are sorry you didn't know that Norfolk is on the other side of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, 44 miles from Cape Charles. The toll, one way, is $12. If you make the return trip within 24 hours the return toll is $5. That makes commuting expensive, but for a one-day excursion to Norfolk or Virginia Beach it's worth the price. The bridge/tunnel alone is a marvel.
