The craftsmanship and design behind this home is extremely impressive. There are stunning views from the many windows, which made even the most mundane task such as washing dishes or switching loads of laundry a treat. We will likely closely replicate the layout of the main level if we ever build a property. The house was very well-equipped. We particularly appreciated the two kayaks that were available for use, as well as the fishing gear for our two sons. My brother joined us for most of the trip, and the above-garage apartment was perfect for him. The listing describes the access to the upper and lower levels. We established rules for our 4 yr old and 7 yr old sons, so this wasn't a problem for us. Do note that the stairs to the lower level are quite narrow, and the ladder is, well, it's a ladder. My grandparents spent an evening with us, and it wasn't a problem, since there was no need for them to leave the main level. The only other issue we had was with the doors. They are incredibly beautiful wood doors, which seemed to swell with the humidity. We simply learned which doors were easiest to open and close, and avoided those that were difficult. My only suggestion for the owners would be to consider screening in the patio. The mosquitoes were out in full force, so we missed out on enjoying the lovely patio area. Upper Patten Pond exceeded our expectations. It was a very quiet lake, with little to no boat traffic. It was the perfect place to introduce our sons to the joys of swimming off the dock, and we also found a great little swimming hole across the lake. We discovered two families of loons on this lake, along with seeing eagles, fireflies, and turtles. The property was extremely clean and well-maintained. Marilyn provided clear instructions, and was great to work with during the reservation process. It was hard to leave the property, because it was so peaceful. We spent two days in Acadia, and one day on Green Lake with my grandparents. Our sons insisted on a few rounds of mini golf at Pirate's Cove. Our favorite meal was at Union River Lobster Pot in Ellsworth. We will be recommending this property to friends and family, and will hopefully be returning someday as well. It was the perfect setting for our summer family vacation.

Owner response: Thank you Erica. I am pleased you and your family had a great vacation. The home is very beautiful and yes the doors are touchy. The owner is coming up and is going to try to see what they can do to help make them easier to work. She has also mentioned having the patio screened in. Maybe next time you come it will be. I appreciate the review and the suggestions. We do try to have everything a tenant may need, even if it is vacation, it's nice to have things within an arms reach. Please come back and stay with us again. Marilyn
Gorgeous and comfortable!
Gorgeous and comfortable!
We stayed in this beautiful home for a week in August 2012. It is amazing inside and out. We swam and kayaked in the pond, watched Bald Eagles, Osprey and Loons and listened to the loons calling at all times of the day. The location outside of downtown Ellsworth allowed us to buy fresh local produce from stands around the area and enjoy delicious local ice cream. We visited Acadia National Park and went to the top of Cadillac Mountain, viewed spectacular scenery and picnicked under the trees. The home itself is situated on a point of land and is designed to allow views of the water from almost anywhere inside the home. Looking around, you see both the beauty of the home's design (solid wood floors and doors, high ceilings) and the beauty of the outdoors through the many large windows. Even when inside, it feels like you're outside among the trees watching the sun glisten on the pond. We don't regret paying more for this rental than we would have for the others that we researched - it was worth every penny and we can't stop thinking about our vacation and wishing we were back there!
