Fine restaurants can be found throughout the area, some with local color, others with gourmet cuisine. Grocery and drug stores, banks, restaurants, and a variety of specialty stores are about 6 miles away.
The beauty of the fall foliage cannot be extolled enough. It is every bit as spectacular in the Buskirk area as in VT.
Year Purchased: 1993
About the owner: I am an artist who settled in Buskirk (northern Rensselaer County) in the early 1970s. I was drawn to this area by the beauty of its historic farmsteads. Over the years I became involved in conserving agricultural land and the rural landscape.
Why the Owner Chose Cambridge: I purchased the White Oak Farm in order to keep it from being subdivided and developed. It is very near my house, and I was concerned about losing the agricultural vistas. I have put the farm under a conservation easement, which means that its 95 acres of land can never be subdivided and will always be available for agricultural use.
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse: Soon after I purchased the farm, I undertook a complete restoration of the house and buildings, concentrating on retaining the historic details. Trim on the windows was replicated and the original hand hewn wood beams in the ceiling on the second floor were revealed. The sun room addition and modern kitchen were decorated with wood beams and wide boards. The patio with its stone wall and the assortment of well maintained, historic outbuildings all enhance the rustic chic charm of the farmhouse. The land is leased to a farmer who plants corn and hay. Walking through the fields to the beaver dam and the magnificent white oak tree is a unique and rewarding experience.
