Indiana Vacation Rental

Enjoy the Fall Foliage on a Peaceful "Hoosier Homestead" Farm Martinsville, Indiana Vacation Rental by Owner Listing 96957

Location: Martinsville, Indiana, USA (35 miles from Indianapolis, IN, 25 miles from Bloomington IN)

Accommodations:  Farm, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 5-8)

Get away from it all, but only 30 miles from the city!! Goose Creek Farm is nestled in the southern Indiana hills, five miles west of Martinsville. Designated a "Hoosier Homestead," the farm has been in the same family since 1836 when it was homesteaded by Nathan Dow, who came over from England and settled in this lovely valley. The farm consists of 220 acres, 90 of which are flat enough for crops. Hills and woods make up the remainder of the farm and give it the picturesque, secluded atmosphere that so many visitors love.

Activities include fishing in the pond, hiking in the woods, panning for gold in the stream (yes, there actually was an old gold mine on the property, deposited from the last glacier that stopped in central Indiana), or just sitting on the front porch listening to the birds.

The farm has its own artesian well water that is pumped into the house. This is the same water that made Martinsville famous for its spas back in the early 1900's. Many Presidents, including Franklin Roosevelt, came to Martinsville for the spas. You can take as many artesian baths as you want for no extra charge.

Besides being close to Indianapolis, where you can attend car races, other sporting events, the wonderful Children's museum, the symphony, or many festivals or other activities, Goose Creek Farm is only 26 miles from downtown Bloomington, where you can attend activities at Indiana University (football games or the opera), and only 28 miles to the picturesque artist colony of Nashville, IN.

The Brown County State Park, and many art galleries in the Nashville area make a pleasant day trip from the farm. Brown County is also noted for its wonderful fall colors, rivalling the New England states. But, you do not have to go any farther than to look out the window of the farmhouse to see wonderful fall colors. The hills and many hard wood trees provide spectacular colors in the fall.

Four rooms of the present seven room farm house were built in approximately 1865. In 1912, my great grandparents were having the house turned and putting additional rooms on, when they both tragically died within a year of each other. For many years people reported seeing the ghost of my great grandmother, Emma, there at the farm. After my parents finished remodelling in 1985, there have been no more sighting of Emma (but you can read more about the ghost stories when you are there). The house, furnished with antiques, has two fireplaces, one in the large country kitchen and a wood burning stove insert in the 'parlor.'

No hunters or hunting allowed.
Two night minimum stay.
