The Carrollton area is by turns sleepy and lively, with lovely streets populated by stately Oaks and a history of being where the erudite summered in New Orleans, beautiful Victorians line this streetcar boulevard. The Americana is situated along historic oak-lined Carrollton Ave, mere steps from the St. Charles Ave Street car. This 3 BR/2 BA, is one of six flats in a lovely Historic home that has been faithfully restored to it's original grandeur with a mix of the historic and the modern, featuring two master bedrooms, each with a Queen bed, full-closet and one with an en-suite full bath. A junior bedroom also features a Queen bed and full-closet. The heart of the home is a cozy kitchen with a large eating/lounging area, flat screen TV/DVD, cable and Wi-Fi Internet. Plenty of room for all to gather and pass an evening, host a dinner party, or settle in for a quiet dinner for two. Spacious yet intimate, the Americana is perfect for families or several couples traveling together.
Carrollton Avenue: Before being annexed by the city of New Orleans, the town of Carrolton was a summer resort community where the well-to-do kept a summer cottage and enjoyed the shady woodlands, meadows and breezes from the nearby Mississippi river. The Americana is a stone's throw from beautiful Palmer Park. Family friendly with a new 'Kaboom' playground, Palmer Park hosts many community and cultural events. The last Sat. of every month Palmer Park comes to life during the Arts Market with tents of arts & crafts vendors, refreshments and live music. The St. Charles Street car -the oldest street car line in the world! -runs directly past The Americana, rolling on to destinations such as : The French Quarter, Canal Street, Audubon Park/Zoo, Aquarium of the Americas, The Garden District and Lafayette Cemetery. The Palmer lies within easy walking distance of Historic Oak street and it's eclectic shops, boutiques, and various restaurants of all sorts, local groceries, pharmacies -even good old American fast food!
Good Eats!: Camelia Grille, Jacque Imo's, Maple Leaf Bar, Ninja Sushi, Rue De La Course, Oak Bar, Curry Corner, Mona's Mediterranean, Oak Street Cafe, Sno Balls, Lebenon Cafe, Cafe Greneda, Panchito's Mexican, Little Tokyo, Saltwater Grille, O'Henry's, Brigsten's, Matt and Naddies, Dante's Kitchen, China Orchid, Hana, Cold Stone Creamery, Cooter Brown's Oyster Bar, New Orleans Daiquiri, Le Madelaine, Lousiana Pizza Kitchen to name a few...all within a quick 15 minute walk!
Other Activities: Swamp tours, French Quarter Tours, Cemetery Tours, Walking, Jogging, Bicycling, Roller blading and Horseback riding on the Mississippi River Levee. Easy access to Saints games at the Superdome and Hornets games at the Arena via S. Claiborne Avenue. Live music nightly at the Maple Leaf Bar on Historic Oak Street. Hi Lenora, We arrived home last night from the Big Easy a little tired, a few pounds heavier (ha ha) but full to the brim of wonderful memories. I just wanted to say “Thank you” for hosting us for our NOLA vacation. The Americana was perfect for us and was so convenient to the festival site and everything else we wanted to see. We had such a great time and totally fell in love with your city, the neighbouhood and the lovely people that we met. I sure hope that we get back there someday soon. Rick thinks that next time he would love to spend a couple of months. Guess I better buy a lottery ticket today!! :-) Best regards,Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We liked the location of this apartment, its in Uptown near the Garden District. It was easy to catch the St Charles bus and transfer over to the street car to head downtown! We were traveling with kids and my parents, everyone enjoyed the adventure of taking the street car! This place was very clean, loved the decor. I would definitely recommend this place to others and would consider staying here again if we visit New Orleans in the future.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This is an adorably decorated three bedroom unit that is literally steps away from the streetcar. We picked this Uptown location because it is but eleven blocks or so from our favorite spots in the Riverbend. Places like Cooter Browns for Andygator, Madigan's, and of course the most delicious Camellia Grill, and there are many others along the way such as the myriad of hotspots on Oak Street. We were able to walk to all of them when we wanted, or simply walk across the street to the neutral ground to catch the streetcar. Palmer Park is right on the corner as well, which was a fun playground for our toddler. Lenora was a wonderful communicator from the get-go, She answered all of my questions and even called me to discuss which of her units would be the best fit for our family since we were traveling with a toddler and both of our mothers. When we arrived, we were greeted with a nice welcome basket of Community coffee, jams and wine. We felt right at home. The linens and towels were top shelf... super soft and cozy. This Carrollton Avenue neighborhood is very safe, appliances (including temperature control) worked well, and the kitchen was appointed with everything we needed, including sugar, sweeteners and tea. I noticed someone else mentioned a dead cockroach in their review. We live in the South... we have bugs here. It is NOT an indication of cleanliness. The apartment was very clean. A dead bug means the pest control is working... that's a good thing. It just happens from time to time. There is some street noise from the streetcar that can be heard in the front bedroom, but nothing horrendous... it's city living after all. Simply put your light sleepers in one of the back bedrooms. All in all, this is a great property, especially for the price during Mardi Gras. We were all very happy with the location and the ability to ride the streetcar to the parades on St. Charles. I would recommend it!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Myself and 4 friends stayed here during the 2012 Jazz Fest - The newly renovated apartment exceeded our expectations in location and setup. The bed's are comfortable and easily sleeps up to 6. All the amenities were suitable with a large kitchen in the lounge room, two bathrooms and air conditioning (which was a god send in the humid weather!). It is located right near a park and two block walk to the nearest supermarket. Right next to the cablecar but we mostly caught taxi's in and out of the city to the French Quarter or to the Festival Grounds. Lenora is always quick to respond and very helpful. Look forward to staying here again in the future!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

I would say it's pretty good for the price. There were 4 of us who stayed here. They only have one sofa that seats 3, the other times you have to sit at the dining room table and are in the way of the smaller tv. Also, only one tv in the house, ok if you don't plan on watching tv. We NEVER once got a full hot shower. This and the dead roaches on the floor was the worst part of this house! The rooms were good sized, the house was clean. The street car ride was not what we expected. It takes almost a full hour from the house to Canal Street. Something we wish we would have known before hand. A cab ride is $15 ish' for 1 person, plus the fee for the rest of your party. This is our 4th trip to the Big Easy, so we prefer to stay closer to Canal street and walk everywhere. Again, not bad for the price. Could have slept more than our group and been fine, less the seating.Owner response: Jaime, I'm a good bit shocked and quite dismayed to hear that you saw roaches, dead or otherwise. We are generally very pleased with our cleaner but will certainly address this. Thanks for that feedback. Lenora.
