Location: Buenos Aires, Argentina, South America (Great antiquing, tango, location, comfortable, safe)

Accommodations:  Single-Floor Apartment, 4 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths (Sleeps 4-7)

This beautiful turn-of-the-century, French building rests in the heart of BA's San Telmo area.
Perfect for antiquing, dancing tango, or simply walking around and taking in the architecture and people; also great for museums or a live show; as one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city, there is culture to be found on every corner... clubs, bookstores, boutiques, parks and theatres grace this European corner of South America.

You'll find a wide variety of restaurants; and you'll find yourself a stone's throw from Puerto Madero, which is by contrast BA's premiere, skyscraper-full new and modern area of BA (also great for restaurants!)

On Sunday, we urge you to experience the San Telmo fair, which on it's own is great fun to visit, if for no other reason than to sip some coffee on the cobblestone streets, while passers-by walk with bags filled with antiques.

The kitchen is equipped with a microwave, coffee pot, dishes, glassware, flatware, cooking utensils, etc., but if you don't feel like cooking, order from one of the many restaurants, which deliver.

The quiet bedrooms host queen-size beds with high thread count bedding. Distributed in two floors; the ground floor has three bedrooms, all with queen-size beds (two of the three bedrooms have TV with satellite access) and two full bathrooms; the top floor was a single bed with it's own bathroom. This unit is perfect for two or more couples, as well as also great for couples with children (we even have a kid-friendly DVD collection, including Spongebob Squarepants, etc.)

    • Having made the plane reservations and this rental agreement months in advance (and having used VRBO for the first time), I could only think, as we neared the departure date, that there was something awaiting me that I had not planned. As we landed in BA after many hours in flight and three airports, finding Max immediately was wonderful. He is a very friendly and knowledgeable your man who erased any apprehensions we were having. Having him meet us and taking us to the apartment was assuring. We felt that he was a source of information and was dedicated to making our stay exciting. The apartment was spectacular, sunny, spacious, charming. The 16 foot ceilings, beautiful windows framed in wood, antiques everywhere in the apartment, and balconies added to the charm. I remember awaking the first morning and looking at the large windows beautifully shaped: what a image to see every morning! We are a party of five with three kids between the ages of 19 and 24. All of us enjoyed the apartment and the barrio, San Telmo. San Telmo reminded me of Soho in New York when the neighborhood was growing into its new image: cutting edge, stylish, bohemian. We discovered an abundance of bars, cafes, restaurants, antiques shops. boutiques and music venues. Plaza Dorrego is a gem and enchanting. Buenos Aires is beautiful and provides many interesting activities. Returning to the apartment every day was enjoyable. I can't imagine spending over a week in a hotel and enjoying my stay as much as we did in this apartment. I could easily stay here for an extended time.

    • As a group of 3 couples on our way to Antarctica, we added a week in Buenos Aires to our journey and were pleased with our stay in every way. This was our first interaction with VRBO and I hope the next will equal our delight in these wonderful San Telmo accomodations. Having a kitchen and relaxing spaces for gathering eased the co-ordinating required in group travel. Everythng from the furnishings to the artwork to the wonderfully equipped kitchen made us feel at home. We settled in easily finding the grocery store within the block and the metro nearby. The Sunday San Telmo market and lively Dorrego Plaza were an easy walk. Max helped orient us and bravely offered to help anytime -- we liked the advantage of a local connection for any unexpected circumstance (like my chipped tooth!) REALLY, don't miss this great place to call home in Buenos Aires!!

    • We enjoyed our stay in the condo very much. Our party consisted of two adults and four young adults (college students). We stayed there for two weeks and the condo is roomy enough that we all had our own space. The very high ceilings added an open feel to the rooms. The chandeliers, the furniture, the paintings, the décor, everything about the condo just had a good feel. After a busy day in the town we always looked forward to returning to our new home for a glass of wine and relaxation. The location is very convenient; the metro is a short walk. I might add we felt safe using the metro. The street gets very busy and even on the third floor when the windows are open it can get fairly noisy but not overbearing. There are restaurants and pubs as well as numerous antique shops in walking distance from the condo. As in any city there are areas you want to avoid but all in all we traveled mainly by foot and metro and encountered no problems. Taxis are also abundant and the fares are very reasonable. We did have a little inconvenience with the internet during our stay but Max did his best to get this resolved. Max is absolutely wonderful and went out of his way to assist us. We highly recommend this unit. Forswyth & Karalee

    • This apartment is just wonderful and I highly recommend it! The decor is lovely, the location in San Telmo is convenient to everything you need while on vacation. It had plenty of room for the 6 of us. Max was very helpful and accomodating. Standing on the balconies and watching the busy street life of Buenos Aires will be one of my fond memories of our trip to Argentina.

    • Max makes everything happen perfectly! This is the third time I have stayed in this sumptous apartment. This time only my daughter and I were there, but everything we needed was provided, and more than enough room for another couple of people. Having the elevator to the very safe and secure third floor apartment made the two of us women alone feel very comfortable. It is a delight to be the only apartment on the third floor. Everything works well in the apartment, the Wi-Fi, TV, music,& all kitchen appliances. The water pressure is good in the shower, and all is remodeled and updated but still has the feel of another time and place with the antiques and decorations. I highly regard this Carlos Calvo apartment as a must stay if you want the authentic feel of being in a well known area of Buenos Aires, convenient to all, but feels more like home than a typical tourist rental.

    • It was a relief to step into this apartment and have our expectations exceeded. You never know what you'll get when just browsing pictures and comments online. In any case, the highest flattery that we can bestow upon this rental unit is that we will be returning to Buenos Aires next year and will be staying there again.....assuming it's available. It is conveniently located by the Metro, important bus lines to anywhere in the city, grocery stores, paid laundry services, neighborhood cafes and anything else that you may need. Max, the property manager, is very professional, honest and attentive. Again, we will be staying there in the future.

    • This apartment is just beautiful -- we could have lived there happily ever after! The high ceilings and windows are airy and elegant, the chandeliers and other antiques and paintings so tasteful, the view from the 3rd story wrought iron balconies charming. San Telmo is a wonderful quarter to inhabit, full of local color and old stone buildings- -the antique market on Sundays with its endless stalls of treasure and street performers was such a treat! Access to all other parts of this culturally rich city is easy by bus or by cab, but we were always happy to come home to San Telmo where the working class mingles with artists and vestiges of its aristocratic past. The people are sophisticated, charming and warm, the tango hot! Very good, moderately priced restaurants abound, but we preferred to go daily to the nearby Mercado San Telmo for fresh lamb and produce (the peaches! The arugula! The WINE!!!!) and make dinner "at home" in our well-equipped kitchen. Great to have internet access, air conditioning when it got really hot, and a good sound system. We felt truly at home and appreciated getting to know Max, who couldn't have been nicer or more helpful from the moment he picked us up at the airport. We look forward to returning to Buenos Aires and our home away from home there!

    • Our group of 7 was very pleased with this beautiful apt. in the San Telmo neighborhood. It was filled with antiques yet had every convenience of internet, cable TV, DVD player and a local phone and US phone with no charges for calling back to the States. The apt. manager, Max, was so helpful and accomodating especially when our plans changed at the last minute. We would stay here again in a minute.

    • Place was very nice, good location for antique shopping and great restaurants near by. Building was quiet. Everything worked in the appartment, including a phone line to the US that you could use unlimitted and the internet worked perfectly. Well stocked kitchen. Grocery store a few steps away and a breakfast place in the corner with great deals. The property manager (Max) was very profesional and very nice and Knowledgeable. We were 7 and had plenty of space for all.
