“Grand Old Dame” (3,100 sq ft)- Step into a splendid place and time to experience the celebrated Palm Springs of yesteryear. Built in 1961, this vintage mid-century modern home in her original condition will transport you to the glamorous Golden Days of Hollywood. This magnificent gem is nestled in the heart of the Historic Palm Springs Movie Colony, which was the original playground in the desert for some of Hollywood’s most famed stars, actors, writers and directors. Adjacent to the Tony Curtis house, across the street from the original Dinah Shore house and two blocks from the original Frank Sinatra house, it’s not too difficult to imagine yourself lounging poolside sipping martinis with stars and starlets of a bygone stage and screen era.

A must stay for the Mid-Century purist. The circular driveway and wraparound circular stone wall lures you into this unique desert hideaway where inspiring visual delights of mid-century modern appeal are everywhere you look. The grand entrance with open floor plan and floor-to-ceiling walls of glass invites the outdoors in – a quintessential Palm Springs element for entertainment and enjoyment.

The crown jewel of the “Grand Old Dame” is the unique rotunda in the main living area. A circular sofa with seating for 18 people and a circular fire pit on raised terrazzo tile with circular ceiling flue overlooks the original kidney-shaped swimming pool and outdoor patio.

The classic mid-century architecture and design of this home mixes seamlessly with the modern luxuries required of today’s discerning guests. The chef’s kitchen with gas Viking stove, stainless appliances, granite counters, seated bar and expandable dining table provides a wonderful gathering and entertaining space. All the bedrooms and bathrooms contain luxurious brand NEW Hotel Collection designer comforters, sheets, towels and pillows. The home also provides elegant travertine floors in the main living areas, flat screen TVs in every bedroom and the den, wireless Internet throughout the property and a built-in stereo system for indoors and outdoors with IPOD capability.

Master Retreat: The large master bedroom is an intimate retreat with an en suite bathroom showcasing a walk-in shower, sunken tub, large master wardrobe, double sinks, travertine throughout and floor-to-ceiling walls of glass with spectacular views of the San Jacinto Mountains and the swimming pool. It also features a CA King bed, flat screen TV with DVD player, a comfortable lounging area and access to the outdoor patio.

Spa Bedroom: This guest bedroom is uniquely tropical with its custom zebrawood furniture and special access to a private patio with an in ground, outdoor spa in its own cabana room. Enormous Bird of Paradise and Bamboo plants enhance the privacy of this space and provide a tranquil setting for meditating, relaxing or even a massage. You won’t ever want to leave. The room also provides a Queen size mattress, luxurious linens, large closet, flat screen TV with DVD player and large guest bath just across the hall.

West Wing: While attached to the main house, this bedroom can act as a standalone suite containing its own bathroom, sitting area and private patio with access to the pool. Furnished with authentic mid-century modern teak furnishings, a tufted white sofa, Queen size bed and luxurious linens, this space provides a respite from all the daily activities in the house. Original LIFE magazines from the 60s and romance magazines considered scandalous in the 50s are there for your perusal. The period bath and fixtures complete this suite’s vintage design.

The den provides additional sleeping with a Queen size sleep sofa. It’s also a comfortable room for family entertainment with a large flat screen plasma HDTV, desk area and a collection of magazines, board games and numerous books on Palm Springs architecture.

The lushly landscaped grounds are very private, surrounded by expansive green lawn, soaring palm trees, olive trees and fruit trees. Ficus hedges and architectural block walls allow for the utmost seclusion. The outdoor areas of this property are spectacular day and night. At dusk, landscape lighting spotlights the tropical-like qualities of this outdoor oasis. During daylight hours, the sunshine reflecting from the sparking pool and soaring mountain views provide a vacation sensation. There are plenty of lounge chairs, umbrellas, pool toys and floats to enjoy the outdoor activities. Plus a gas grill that’s ready for your vacation cookout.

This home is a perfect retreat for travelers looking for a private, relaxing, warm getaway. It is also ideal for family gatherings, groups of friends and holiday celebrations and vacations. We strive to provide you all the comforts of home without the work. That is why we offer all our guests access to a local Property Manager on call to attend to your needs. Pool and gardening services are also provided. Just relax and enjoy your stay.

Sunning My Paws in Beautiful Palm Springs!

Sunning My Paws in Beautiful Palm Springs!

VRBO Bear stayed here - 04/21/2008 I can’t think of anything better than heading to Palm Springs to enjoy some much needed sun after a long winter's nap! What a thrill it was to stay in this Palm Springs home.

This Palm Springs vacation home invites you back to a time when Hollywood movie stars retreated to this warm climate for socialization, golf, and much needed rest and relaxation. It’s located in central Palm Springs in what’s known as the "Movie Colony" neighborhood.

It is apparent that time and design have made this home a special place. Whether outside or inside, you’ll enjoy the classy feel of the era of the glamorous lifestyle. The well appointed retro interior design and open floor plan with floor to ceiling windows, boasting a view of the pool area and backyard, makes one take a deep breath and reach for something tall and cool.

With special touches like the interior/exterior sound system, remodeled full kitchen, and flat screen TVs, there was no lack for home entertainment. And we found plenty of shopping, restaurants, and entertainment nearby.

In the evening, we could not decide whether to be outside or inside! We enjoyed balmy nights with the beautiful and subtle outdoor lighting and a starry night sky and we were pampered inside looking out at the glowing pool inviting us for a night swim. I found the "Grand Old Dame" enchanting and often spent time day dreaming of myself in a bygone era, fully expecting Frank Sinatra to come around the corner!

Romantic Mid-Century Getaway

Guest: ScottG (NYC)
Date of Stay: 01/13/12 Review Submitted: 01/29/12

We had a wonderful vacation at this house. Top quality linens, fully equipped and oh that pool and spa. There's a wonderful collection of coffee table books on mid century modern architecture spread around the house. The master shower was what sold me on the house from the pictures and it did not disappoint. Walking distance to many shops and restaurants, a short drive from the rest. We can't wait to return.

authentic mid-century modern dream home!

Guest: Megan W (Vancouver, BC)
Date of Stay: 12/19/11 Review Submitted: 12/29/11

We originally rented this property because my husband is a mid-century modern architecture and design geek (in the best way) and on previous trips to Palm Springs we have cruised the Movie Colony admiring all the vintage homes. This house did not disappoint. So many of the original features remain intact, with the master suite and the fire pit being particularly impressive. That said, the house is very family-friendly, and our 18-month-old ran around like the owned the place and we didn't have to worry about her wreaking too much havoc. She also spent at least an hour a day in the pool, which was heated to nearly spa-like temperatures. The neighbourhood is amazing, with walking-distance proximity to Ruth Hardy Park and downtown PS (including Koffi) being especially important to us. Daria, the property manager, was exceptionally professional and helpful beyond description from the time of booking to our last day. She helps make the experience by ensuring the house is truly turn-key and all you need to do is arrive and put on your swim suit. Or not, since the house is private from every angle! We loved our time here so much that we have already re-booked and are looking forward to coming back not just to Palm Springs but to this authentic mid-century modern gem.

This house was absolutely beautiful and perfect for our family of 5 for a week vacation this spring. I have stayed at vacation rentals through other agencies and I can tell you that nothing has even come close to this house. From the period decor, to the high end finishes, gorgeous mountain views and total privacy, you will not regret staying at this place. It has all the basic amenities and beyond. The bath towels and bed linens are so sumptuous you will find yourself looking at the labels and wanting them for your own homes. The home is close to everything but you'll hardly feel the need or desire to go beyond the confines of this place. Beyond that, all contact with the property management was so warm and welcoming. Look no further--this is a great home.

A Room with a Spectacular View

Guest: Jan & Mike (Richmond Hill, Ontario)
Date of Stay: 03/26/11 Review Submitted: 04/10/11

We stayed in this beautiful home for two weeks and we have to say that of all of the vacations we have taken this has to be one of the best. The house is so beautiful and comfortable that it feels like a "home away from home" but so much more. The view from the Master bedroom is one that starts your day off just right - watching the sun rise over the mountains - stunning! The location is prime for a stroll to the downtown core to enjoy the many shops and restaurants Palm Springs has to offer. The beds are incredibly comfortable with luxurious sheets. The towels are luxury at its best as well. The house is well stocked with everything you could possibly need to make your stay comfortable. The overall feeling is "once you're there, you never want to leave." We would highly recommend this property to anyone who believes a vacation should be one filled with relaxtion, comfort and lots of little touches of luxury. You can't go wrong choosing this property as a well deserved vacation spot. Go - Enjoy! You won't be disappointed. Cheers....Jan & Mike

The Ultimate Vacation Retreat

Guest: Teeny (Chatham Ontario Canada)
Date of Stay: 03/12/11 Review Submitted: 03/22/11

For a week of heaven start here!!!! My family needed to recharge it's batteries and we had no problem doing so!!! My husband and I searched on-line quite extensively for just the right spot to take our teenage boys, not for entertaining them, but to just relax and be together, to get away from it all and slow down. We found the perfect place to do just that. The aaahhh feeling of this home is still with us and making us wish to still be lounging at the pool, tanning in the very hot desert sun, with the palm trees overhead, taking in the scents of fresh flower blossoms and lemon trees. The house has everything!!! Show up with your food and you are set. The linens and towels for the pool, bedrooms and the bathrooms are soooo luxurious, I kept flipping the tags to read hoping I could find just that brand for home. Music and tv were just like home (we did leave the nintendo at home - which was great, the boys had to have real conversations with us and each other!!), We had music outside at the pool, and inside when we wanted it. In the evenings when the sun went down the hot tub cabana room was so cool - great ambiance! One of the best things for us in renting this home was the location. It was only a few minutes walk to shopping, restaurants and coffee shops. North Palm Canyon and Indian Canyon were very close and there was next to no street traffic. The entire neighbourhoud was very quiet!! The house was spotless and the binder provided was very helpful in all the instructions for everything we needed. We truly felt right at home.We were lucky enough to be able to spend a night at the BNP Paribas Open, so if tennis is your thing, you will want to check it out!!! What a thrill. My personal favourite of this home is the night lighting in the backyard. I hope the view from the master bedroom, with the palm trees lit up and the various cactus and aloe in the garden silhouetted against the ever-present and magical mountains will stay with me forever!!!

Date of Stay: 11/27/10 Review Submitted: 01/11/11

This house is in a great location in a quiet, safe neighbourhood. It is in walking distance of downtown shopping in a city with a small town atmosphere. The many restaurants served great food along with excellent entertainment. There are parks and golf courses nearby. The house offers plenty of privacy, is well maintained and very clean. The house manager was very helpful with good advice and tips as well as prompt service. The photos accurately reflect the appearance and spaciousness of the property - great for entertaining. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Palm Springs area.

An Impressive Holiday Retreat

Guest: Ruth & Allan (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada)
Date of Stay: 11/27/10 Review Submitted: 12/13/10

This spacious house which is tastefully decorated is a wonderful place to have a fabulous holiday. You can lounge around or in the pool, soak in the hot tub or enjoy the cozy glow of the firepit in the living room in the evenings. The house is wired for Wifi. Four televisions, a book collection, a DVD and a CD player which can be played into the living room, the den and or outside to the pool provide lots of in-house entertainment. The privacy of the bedrooms and 3 bathrooms make this house ideal for 2 or 3 couples to rent. The kitchen has great appliances and is well stocked with any dishes and utensils you would need even if preparing gourmet meals. Having laundry facilities available on site is wonderful for longer stays. A binder in the house provides information and maps for many attractions in the area. There are a number of books in the house about the history of Palm Springs . Visit the Visitors Centre for an up-to-date list of events taking place in Palm Springs and the neighbouring communities. Joshua Tree National Park and the Temecula Wine Valley are day trips you shouldn't miss. Numerous theatres, museums and casinos in Palm Springs and the nearby towns of Indian Wells, Palm Desert, Indio, La Quinto offer a variety of entertainment to satisfy all tastes. Do attend the Follies to truly get the flavour of Palm Springs. Fitness buffs will enjoy numerous hiking trails in the area. There are 2 bicycles in the garage available for your use. Ruth Hardy Park has exercise stations which make for a good morning workout. Golf Clubs are plentiful. The Coachella Valley is a shopper's heaven with numerous arts and craft festivals and many shopping malls. Our favourite was the Palm Desert Street Festival. The house is located in the Movie Colony and is within walking district of former homes of many movie stars, e.g. Frank Sinatra, Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, Jack Benny, etc. A map in the binder will show you the locations of the houses. You could easily eat a different restaurant every day. We especially enjoyed the Escena Golf Club for the fabulous scenery and the great food. Tormes is wonderful for the food and the jazz in the evenings. It is an easy two hour drive from Los Angeles airport but there is also an airport right in Palm Springs. We have rented many holiday homes and this one has been the best.

Date of Stay: 04/24/09 Review Submitted: 05/07/09

We had a fabulous time!!! Perfect house for relaxing and entertaining-they have all the amenities you could ask for!!! You MUST stay here!!!

Owner response:This is a very common response from our guests. It gives us great pleasure knowing that our guests have this kind of experience and that they recommend our home so highly to other guests. We strive to provide an environment that gives our guests the opportunity and ability to "get away from it all", to enable them to relax and recuperate from the stresses in their lives. Upon walking in the front door, after they say "WOW!!!", they talk a look around and begin to exhale, knowing they are in a VERY SPECIAL place. We have received countless emails from guests talking about how their stay at the house refreshed and revived them, not to mention provided them with a very memorable experience, one that many choose to repeat time and again. It is our hope that should you choose our home, that you too will have this experience. It is something not to be missed. Enjoy!
