“Grand Old Dame” (3,100 sq ft)- Step into a splendid place and time to experience the celebrated Palm Springs of yesteryear. Built in 1961, this vintage mid-century modern home in her original condition will transport you to the glamorous Golden Days of Hollywood. This magnificent gem is nestled in the heart of the Historic Palm Springs Movie Colony, which was the original playground in the desert for some of Hollywood’s most famed stars, actors, writers and directors. Adjacent to the Tony Curtis house, across the street from the original Dinah Shore house and two blocks from the original Frank Sinatra house, it’s not too difficult to imagine yourself lounging poolside sipping martinis with stars and starlets of a bygone stage and screen era.
A must stay for the Mid-Century purist. The circular driveway and wraparound circular stone wall lures you into this unique desert hideaway where inspiring visual delights of mid-century modern appeal are everywhere you look. The grand entrance with open floor plan and floor-to-ceiling walls of glass invites the outdoors in – a quintessential Palm Springs element for entertainment and enjoyment.
The crown jewel of the “Grand Old Dame” is the unique rotunda in the main living area. A circular sofa with seating for 18 people and a circular fire pit on raised terrazzo tile with circular ceiling flue overlooks the original kidney-shaped swimming pool and outdoor patio.
The classic mid-century architecture and design of this home mixes seamlessly with the modern luxuries required of today’s discerning guests. The chef’s kitchen with gas Viking stove, stainless appliances, granite counters, seated bar and expandable dining table provides a wonderful gathering and entertaining space. All the bedrooms and bathrooms contain luxurious brand NEW Hotel Collection designer comforters, sheets, towels and pillows. The home also provides elegant travertine floors in the main living areas, flat screen TVs in every bedroom and the den, wireless Internet throughout the property and a built-in stereo system for indoors and outdoors with IPOD capability.
Master Retreat: The large master bedroom is an intimate retreat with an en suite bathroom showcasing a walk-in shower, sunken tub, large master wardrobe, double sinks, travertine throughout and floor-to-ceiling walls of glass with spectacular views of the San Jacinto Mountains and the swimming pool. It also features a CA King bed, flat screen TV with DVD player, a comfortable lounging area and access to the outdoor patio.
Spa Bedroom: This guest bedroom is uniquely tropical with its custom zebrawood furniture and special access to a private patio with an in ground, outdoor spa in its own cabana room. Enormous Bird of Paradise and Bamboo plants enhance the privacy of this space and provide a tranquil setting for meditating, relaxing or even a massage. You won’t ever want to leave. The room also provides a Queen size mattress, luxurious linens, large closet, flat screen TV with DVD player and large guest bath just across the hall.
West Wing: While attached to the main house, this bedroom can act as a standalone suite containing its own bathroom, sitting area and private patio with access to the pool. Furnished with authentic mid-century modern teak furnishings, a tufted white sofa, Queen size bed and luxurious linens, this space provides a respite from all the daily activities in the house. Original LIFE magazines from the 60s and romance magazines considered scandalous in the 50s are there for your perusal. The period bath and fixtures complete this suite’s vintage design.
The den provides additional sleeping with a Queen size sleep sofa. It’s also a comfortable room for family entertainment with a large flat screen plasma HDTV, desk area and a collection of magazines, board games and numerous books on Palm Springs architecture.
The lushly landscaped grounds are very private, surrounded by expansive green lawn, soaring palm trees, olive trees and fruit trees. Ficus hedges and architectural block walls allow for the utmost seclusion. The outdoor areas of this property are spectacular day and night. At dusk, landscape lighting spotlights the tropical-like qualities of this outdoor oasis. During daylight hours, the sunshine reflecting from the sparking pool and soaring mountain views provide a vacation sensation. There are plenty of lounge chairs, umbrellas, pool toys and floats to enjoy the outdoor activities. Plus a gas grill that’s ready for your vacation cookout.
This home is a perfect retreat for travelers looking for a private, relaxing, warm getaway. It is also ideal for family gatherings, groups of friends and holiday celebrations and vacations. We strive to provide you all the comforts of home without the work. That is why we offer all our guests access to a local Property Manager on call to attend to your needs. Pool and gardening services are also provided. Just relax and enjoy your stay.

I can’t think of anything better than heading to Palm Springs to enjoy some much needed sun after a long winter's nap! What a thrill it was to stay in this Palm Springs home.
This Palm Springs vacation home invites you back to a time when Hollywood movie stars retreated to this warm climate for socialization, golf, and much needed rest and relaxation. It’s located in central Palm Springs in what’s known as the "Movie Colony" neighborhood.
It is apparent that time and design have made this home a special place. Whether outside or inside, you’ll enjoy the classy feel of the era of the glamorous lifestyle. The well appointed retro interior design and open floor plan with floor to ceiling windows, boasting a view of the pool area and backyard, makes one take a deep breath and reach for something tall and cool.
With special touches like the interior/exterior sound system, remodeled full kitchen, and flat screen TVs, there was no lack for home entertainment. And we found plenty of shopping, restaurants, and entertainment nearby.
In the evening, we could not decide whether to be outside or inside! We enjoyed balmy nights with the beautiful and subtle outdoor lighting and a starry night sky and we were pampered inside looking out at the glowing pool inviting us for a night swim. I found the "Grand Old Dame" enchanting and often spent time day dreaming of myself in a bygone era, fully expecting Frank Sinatra to come around the corner!

We had a girls weekend that was a blast from the past. The home evokes an era gone by. The furnishings and accessories set the stage! Well maintained and provisioned, nice towels and linens, plus all your kitchen needs. The listing accurately portrays this lovely property. Daria, the property manager, was readily available to answer any questions. The fresh flowers and coffee on arrival are a nice touch! We enjoyed walking the neighborhood, The Movie Colony, to see all the movie star homes! We will be back :)Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

We are two Australians in our 60's who stayed in this house for a week's break after a hectic work related trip around the south and east coast and chose Palm Springs for this break. This house is an absolutely fabulous example of mid century modern in a great location within walking distance of downtown Palm Springs and Ruth Hardy Park. it met our needs perfectly and we cannot recommend it highly enough. It is in a quiet residential neighbourhood. While in Palm Springs we took a Robert Imber mid century modern architectural tour, which is also highly recommended and the house was one of the stops on that tour. The house itself is well set up with two distinct bedroom areas which would suit couples traveling together but who need some private space. The beds are great with high quality bed linen Andre house also has very high quality towels and plenty of them. The kitchen is very well stocked with a wide range of basic food items and condiments etc., a great contrast to the four plates four knives and four forks sometimes found in vacation rentals. The property is well maintained and the pool was serviced twice during our visit and the gardeners visited once. This is not intrusive and information is available on the days and likely times of their visits. Daria, the property manager left us flowers and some coffee for our arrival and that was greatly appreciated. She was highly efficient and helpful during there booking process and there were no hitches in any of that. She is available during the stay to address any problems but we had no need to call her. There are plenty of eating out choices on the downtown and we ate at Blue Coyote a Mexican restaurant twice during our visit. It is in walking distance, about a kilometre and is recommended. All up we had a great time and highly recommend this property.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.

We always prefer rental homes over hotels in our travels . This home was a lovely getaway for all of us.From the beginning it was a very smooth transaction because of the property manager Daria.Very professional. She had excellent communication at all times.Yet allowed us complete privacy. She also added details to the home that made our stay most enjoyable. A Starbucks bag of coffee awaited us when we arrived. And on the table a lovely poinsettia. We did arrive in Decemeber. We felt right at home .The house was big enough so we all could have our privacy. It was clean and well stocked. It is in a perfect location ,were you can walk to downtown but yet its very quiet and private. My husband and I relaxed and enjoyed the quiet and swam mostly.Drove out to the windfarm.(Just a quick jaunt from the house).Checked out some art galleries. The others went golfing ,shopping and horseback riding .We all took a ride on the Palm springs tram.We had a most enjoyable stay and would definitely choose to stay in this home again when we return. One note however ,our first dining experience out was at a place called Trios. We all had very undercooked food including a pork chop. Being so dark in there we had eaten a portion of it before we noticed how raw the food actually was.Havent they heard of Trichinosis there?Wouldnt go back.Did you find this review helpful? As a first time vacation home renter, it's safe to say I drove my boyfriend crazy with all the demands I had for a Palm Springs getaway we had planned for my 50th B-day. "I want to stay at a cozy Mid-Century house that has an open floor plan, furniture that's cool but not too pretentious, close to downtown yet feels secluded, has comfy rooms for our guests, a kidney bean shaped pool, a sound system to hear my favorite music throughout the joint, and most importantly - a spacious seating area that can host a game night". I still remember the distressed look on his face when I uttered my list of demands. "Ya know, you can't possibly have it all!", he mumbled. I'm so glad he was wrong. Like the others commenting before me on this website, the photos alone do not do this home justice! Now I'm not a hippy type gal, but the aura and vibe of this place is so positive and happy - we immediately forgot about our day to day work woes the minute we set foot in the place. Finding a thoughtful B-day gift and welcome card from Daria the Property Manager was also an unexpected surprise. Then there were all the amenities: a generous supply of beach towels, blankets, dishware, cocktail glasses, utensils, kitchen appliances...you name it - it's here. Next time I stay (and indeed there will be a next time) I'm only bringing my clothing, toiletries and make-up. No need for anything else 'cuz it's all here...even a coffee table architecture book with amazing photos of legendary P.S. homes - one of 'em being this very home! The only disappointing experience we had was on our last day...when we had to leave our dreamy desert getaway and come back home to reality!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

We have rented quite a few houses in Palm Springs but this property was by far our favorite! The neighborhood, house layout, furnishings, pool and countless amenities (tons of pool towels, toiletries in each bathroom, a fresh package of coffee awaiting us in the kitchen, etc) were really superlative. The house is close to everything yet very calm and quiet. The property manager, Daria, was on top of everything and incredibly helpful yet discreet. Thank you again - we would definitely recommend this house to our friends and family!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 13/13

Great location. A ten minute walk to downtown where we danced our last night away. A two minute walk to Ruth Hardy park for an outdoor yoga class taught on Saturday mornings. Perfect for our bi-yearly girl get away with total privacy for tanning. Rooms were very comfy, except for air conditioning unit in spa bedroom was a little louder than in other rooms. After the first day we all decided that this will definitely be our yearly place to stay and others were already in process of booking for other occasions. A few of us are cyclist, if the bikes were available that would have put icing on the cake.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 14/14

We had a wonderful vacation at this house. Top quality linens, fully equipped and oh that pool and spa. There's a wonderful collection of coffee table books on mid century modern architecture spread around the house. The master shower was what sold me on the house from the pictures and it did not disappoint. Walking distance to many shops and restaurants, a short drive from the rest. We can't wait to return.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

We originally rented this property because my husband is a mid-century modern architecture and design geek (in the best way) and on previous trips to Palm Springs we have cruised the Movie Colony admiring all the vintage homes. This house did not disappoint. So many of the original features remain intact, with the master suite and the fire pit being particularly impressive. That said, the house is very family-friendly, and our 18-month-old ran around like the owned the place and we didn't have to worry about her wreaking too much havoc. She also spent at least an hour a day in the pool, which was heated to nearly spa-like temperatures. The neighbourhood is amazing, with walking-distance proximity to Ruth Hardy Park and downtown PS (including Koffi) being especially important to us. Daria, the property manager, was exceptionally professional and helpful beyond description from the time of booking to our last day. She helps make the experience by ensuring the house is truly turn-key and all you need to do is arrive and put on your swim suit. Or not, since the house is private from every angle! We loved our time here so much that we have already re-booked and are looking forward to coming back not just to Palm Springs but to this authentic mid-century modern gem.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This house was absolutely beautiful and perfect for our family of 5 for a week vacation this spring. I have stayed at vacation rentals through other agencies and I can tell you that nothing has even come close to this house. From the period decor, to the high end finishes, gorgeous mountain views and total privacy, you will not regret staying at this place. It has all the basic amenities and beyond. The bath towels and bed linens are so sumptuous you will find yourself looking at the labels and wanting them for your own homes. The home is close to everything but you'll hardly feel the need or desire to go beyond the confines of this place. Beyond that, all contact with the property management was so warm and welcoming. Look no further--this is a great home.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
