Luxury in Tuscany!
Luxury in Tuscany!
I stayed in Maurino apartment in August 2009 and what a fantastic week! This old olive mill has been restored beautifully with real charm yet total luxury. When you drive to the mill it is a bit off road however you will be totally surprised by the quality of the finishing and facilities. The apartment gave us direct access to the terrace with amazing views over the tuscan hills. The peace and quiet is excellent if you really want to get away from it all then this is the place. We went to Florence for the day by train from a local town and it was really easy and cheap, we would recommend that over driving to make it more relaxing. Although the villa is up a hill meaning you can't walk really to restaurants this didn't bother us at all, we went to the local wine shop and the deli's to get lovely food and there is a bbq available - what more did we need! I think this place will be perfect once the pool is put in this year and I will definitely be returning to try it out. A special comment to Linda and George who live just up from the Frantoio and service the apartments, they were extremely helpful advising us on where to visit and leaving their home grown vegetables outside the door for us - wonderful people!

Great Accommodation Great Location Great People
Great Accommodation Great Location Great People
Just returned from a week in the Maurino apartment with my teenaged kids. What a great place! Spotlessly clean, stylish and comfortable with a fantastic view from almost every window, The apartment contained everything you could possibly need for a comfortable holiday whether you are eating in or out. The pictures on the website really do not do the accommodation or the views justice The custodians of the property have taken great care to provide detailed information on local restaurants (the research must have been absolute hell for them!) and thanks to their information we never had a bad meal or felt we paid too much. One thing to bear in mind about this property is that it is a 5-10 minute drive to the nearest restaurants part of which is down the steep private track. This is something which didn't bother us (I just enjoyed a nice glass of something when we returned to the absolute peace of the property). We felt the slightly remote location was a real benefit in terms of the peace and the views - no pain no gain!! The location of the property we also found to be ideal - a really non touristy part of Tuscany with prices and quality to match. We only heard another English voice when we went to Lucca and Florence, we speak no Italian and found the locals to be helpful and friendly. If you need to cool down there is an olympic size pool at Bientina about 10 minutes away complete with very high diving platforms! If you arrive after 4pm the charge is only 5euro (11 euro for the full day) including sun loungers. (a pool is planned at the property next year). The property would be ideal for a few families getting away together but still having independence. Don't hesitate - just book it!!

What a find!
What a find!
Just returned from a 10 day stay at Il Frantoio. Clean, modern, very comfortable, well equiped, good welcome pack, plenty of clean towels, bedding. Good seating outside on various terraces, always able to find shade when needed. George and Linda, couple who look after house live away from main house. They are perfect 'minders' of the property. They are discreet but available when needed, very familiar with the area, our only poor meal was at a restaurant not recommended by them. Very peaceful, quiet location, we hired a car so we were able to explore the countryside and cities but we were always glad to get back to the Mill. George and Linda have compiled a book of places to see, places to eat etc. which we found very helpful. We had a wonderful holiday with our 3 teenage sons and we would all be happy to return sometime in the future and we would love to bring friends with us. Judith, Billy and family.

About the owner: Scottish owners living in Edinburgh who travel regularly to sample the simple relaxation, food and great wine in Italy. Sunday at Alfredo's for lunch is special or go to Massi's or take a trip up to the Cinque Terre and do the 'Walk of Love' Could always go and see 'David' in Florence or walk in the hills or just sit on the terrace with a glass of wine and take in the views. Oh joy . Mind there is late night Salsa dancing in the summer at Alfredo's and then the Summer and Winter Festivals at Lucca and then the Palio at Bientina But then again might just sit on the terrace with my glass of wine I held my 60th Birthday party at the Frantoio in April and invited all the local Italian Neighbours and we played music and danced with our friends in the entrance hall at the Frantoio. Just a great place for a 'Big Birthday'
