  Sleeping Turtle Sanctuary is a beautiful blend of traditional Hawaiian styling with contemporary Asian influence. The house is spacious, with great decor, comfortable furnishings and fantastic interior lighting. The house is worth renting for access to the expansive lanai alone. Turtles came to the beach every day, we saw whales frequently and viewed spectacular daily sunsets. A great place to relax and watch the ocean, with a nice front and back yard. The kitchen is wonderfully equipped if you wish to cook. Beach access is rocky, but the snorkeling is superb! Puako is a nice, quiet community and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property managers, Kalia and Lon, are truly nice people and are sensitive to your requirements. Sleeping Turtle Sanctuary is a great choice for a Big Island vacation.

  Prior to our arrival I contacted the Property Manager on information for my fiancee's birthday surprise. He was helpful in everyway from providing a name of a Masseuse, to a Private Chef and a Hawaiian Musician. It was better than having your own personal concierge, as he was readily available throughout our entire stay to answer questions about different events around The Kohala Coast, North Kohala & Waimea. Upon opening the front door and seeing the view to the ocean we knew this would be truly a vacation of a lifetime. The description of the house and the photos do not really prepare you for how beautiful this property is. The accomodations within the house, the lanai, looking out over the ocean make this a place you do not want to leave. Our expectations were very high for this property and we definitely were not dissapointed. To experience the whales everyday, the sunrise, the sunsets, the gentle breeze made this paradise.

  We had a truly wonderful stay in your beautiful home! It was everything we had hoped for. What a lovely place for the whole family. We had lots of room to spread out, and we all felt that the yard and view were truly magical. It was so hard to leave! Thanks for all your help all along the way. We would definitely recommend this home to anyone.

  We were looking for a place to for our wedding, and instead of going with a resort -- a bit too commercial for our tastes -- my wife had this dream of renting an ocean-front house in Hawaii, inviting some of our closest friends over, and just have a wonderful night together. Well, we couldn't believe it, but we found the absolute perfect spot in Sleeping Turtle! Our wedding was on Sunday. We got there Thursday and spent the first few days preparing for the wedding. It was hard to get any work done though -- the place was so gorgeous and relaxing, we just wanted to lounge on the lanai all day long. Seriously, the photos here do not do this place justice at all. Lon, the property manager, was incredibly helpful -- he made sure we had everything we needed, was incredibly accommodating, filled with local knowledge, and was always a quick phone call away. I felt so pampered by his meticulous attention to detail! The wedding day was incredible. The weather was perfect -- apparently, Puako is even sunnier than the already-sunny Kona coast. We held our ceremony in the tiny coral beach right by the backward, with our guests standing on the sand and the wedding party standing on lava rock extending into the calm ocean -- a very memorable location! We read our vows to each other as gentle waves lapped up against the shore. Dinner was served on the main lanai -- which was big enough to fit all of us comfortably. We moved the party indoors after a beautiful sunset, and had a blast. Our guests couldn't stop commenting on how amazing the place is! We were sad to leave Sleeping Turtle -- in all our busy preparations, we didn't even have time to pause and use the hot tub! -- but hope to one day return. It is the most amazing place we've ever stayed at, and made our wedding an unforgettable event.

• Absolutely Amazing!

  We stayed at Sleeping Turtle Sanctuary for a week to prepare for and hold our wedding. It is so hard to express how wonderful the property is and the beauty that surrounds you every day. Our first day was spent running from room to room, going for a quick dip and ending up in the jacuzzi for a nice soak - it was like being a kid in a toy store! We made it a morning ritual to snorkel right after sunrise and very quickly found the reason for the property's name - turtles were EVERYWHERE (not to mention loads of fish and caves). The snorkeling was wonderful and hard to beat, although we do recommend going out in the morning as the winds tended to pick up in the early afternoon. The house set up was just awesome as well - beds were comfy (even the futon in the loft) and the kitchen was perfect for our group of 6 staying at the house. You can definitely tell that every amenity was considered in the decor and layout of the house - from the sliding doors to the lighting of the house and yard to the appliances in the kitchen and the openness of the floorplan. Our wedding was held in the back yard on Saturday - what a perfect location! We are so very blessed to have been able to secure this spot as I cannot imagine anything but Sleeping Turtle Sanctuary. We are already trying to find a way back to this paradise and hope to be there again SOON!!

  The house and property were beyond our expectations! Sitting on the porches, cup of coffee in hand, watching the sun come up and the moon disappear… and then the birds… one of my favorite memories of the whole trip! The sunsets on the other end of the day were pretty terrific as well!!! The children especially loved playing in the yard and in the waves. They found numerous objects and created boats and other items from natural collected treasures. Great fun to enjoy their creativity! The house itself was beautifully maintained and aesthetically very pleasing. We just loved begin there as a family as it felt both comfortable being together and yet we could also have time away. It was perfect for us!

  We loved it! Though we did occasionally venture out to some of the nice attractions close by, we mostly just wanted to stay around The Sanctuary, relaxing on the lanai or getting close to the water to see the turtles. We miscalculated a bit in deciding to spend three nights on the other side of the island. Though we loved the Volcanoes national park and saw some lava flows from the county viewing site in Kalapana, we were missing Kohala and the Sleeping Turtle Sanctuary the whole time. We would love to come back some day. This is probably the most beautiful place we have ever stayed in. Mahalo!

  Gorgeous shoreside location, watch dolphins or snorkel from porch. Puako offers no big shopping - perfect for someone wanting to escape the tourist trap environment of Kailua Kona. Yet, the easy 35 minute drive to Kona for lots of cultural activities and restaurants, shopping is perfect. The house has toys for kids, plenty of towels, deck space for a large family to gather. The house is clean, no allergens or odors. This was a wonderful spot and if we come back to the Big Island we wouldn't even consider staying somewhere else. Thank you for sharing your lovely little piece of paradise!

  Aloha...I wanted to let you know my family and I had a wonderful time in Hawaii and made many happy memories at Sleeping Turtle. It is a beautiful and comfortable home - perfect for my family of 5. The view and the lanai are to die for! We enjoyed gorgeous sunsets and awesome snorkeling right out the back door. We hope to return some day and would definitely rent the Sleeping Turtle Sanctuary again without hesitation!

  Over the years we have stayed all over the Big Island, in the resorts, B & Bs and other rentals. This special place is our favorite and now the ONLY place we stay on the dry side. We make our plans around the availability of this house. The photos fail to do it justice. But pictures could never capture the feeling. The house and enormous lanai are luxurious, comfortable, peaceful and just a few yards from the water. I wouldn’t change a thing. The best beach on the island is just down the road. It is a stunningly beautiful crescent of sand, safe for children with shade if you want it down to the high tide line. At the other end of the road is some of the island’s best snorkeling. I’ve had solo encounters with manta rays in the deeper water there that are indescribable. Rent this house. It’s the place you’ll go in your mind the rest of the year.
