Sunset Cove Cottage is a meticulously maintained and deeply loved coastal property. It is owned by a homeschooling family who will one day make it their year-round home when they retire from their current profession of Innkeeping in the White Mountains of NH. Enjoy our private deep water dock for sailing, fishing & kayaking; watch working lobster boats or take a fishing excursion on a charter boat from Cooks Marina. Our 500+ feet of private waterfront has a sandy beach for swimming and the rugged rocky coastline that typifies the beauty of Maine. Watch seals and eagles from our private peninsula and 1.5 acre grounds. Our newly-constructed seaside cottage is brand new, beautifully furnished and handcrafted with the highest quality materials. A stunning view of Middle Bay is dotted with islands, and affords a majestic view of distant Mount Washington on a clear day. It’s only 25 minutes by boat to ‘Old Port’ (in Portland, ME), where you can take in dinner and a show, or a day of shopping and museum hopping. Located only 12 minutes from historic Bowdoin College in Brunswick, this college town has all the culture of a vibrant educational center: theater, museums, lectures, art galleries, concerts and unique shops. The village of Harpswell is steeped in history from its meeting house and church, the old town pound and Historical Society museum, to the famous Cribstone Bridge, the only one of its kind in the world. Hike or bike nearby trails and backroads on Harpswell’s many peninsulas, which boast the most coastline of any town in the US! Take day trips to Freeport (15 miles) to the home of LLBean and the fabulous shopping outlets. Drive only 40 miles to Boothbay for whale watching, puffin tours, unique shops and restaurants and the incomparable Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. Until we are able to enjoy and live on our dream property year-round, we are happy to share it with adult vacationers who love peace and solitude, the beauty of nature and the coast of Maine as much as we do.

About the owner: Friends and family say we lead a 'charmed life' ... we certainly have had an unusual and adventurous one! You can read about some of it on the Innkeepers page of our website at http://www.ilovethelodge.com/innkeepers/index.php
Why the Owner Chose Harpswell Center:
Cathi, aka The 'Lodge Lady' at her inn, is definitely a landlubber! Formerly writing as 'The Mountain Farmgirl' for MaryJanes Farm, she is a forest-mountain-and waterfall person through and through. Dana, on the other hand, is an old salt with the sea in his veins, and needed to have a place on the coast of Maine to retire to, and from which he could sail in his sailboat. The result was a piece of heaven called Sunset Cove Cottage. Between their inn in the White Mountains of NH and the cottage in Harpswell, Maine, it is truly the best of both worlds. Cathi has come to love it almost as much as Dana as 'Their Adventures Continue ...'
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
There is something truly energizing about the sea. The salt air is health-giving, life is 'real', and the people who have inhabited this coast are rugged, independent and self-reliant. Being only 10 minutes from Bowdoin College, founded in the late 1700s is incredible. The very old New England feel to this town, the intellectual pursuits to be had here, and the art and culture which are so abundant, make it truly an ideal location. Add to this the fact that Portland, Maine (voted the 'Most Livable Small City in America' 3 times in a row) is less than 30 minutes away, and the setting is absolutely perfect! Ocean life is very engaging. It is here, with the tides in constant ebb and flow, that one notices that life is in continual change; nothing ever stays exactly the same!
