Mermaids' Lair is a quiet retreat for those escaping the stresses of daily life! Located in Keaton Beach, on Florida’s Big Bend area of the Panhandle, the area is known for its year round accessibility to beautiful nature. This home features a great porch hanging over the Gulf of Mexico, where you can enjoy the breezes and relax in rockers, comfy couches, hammock in shade or deck chairs and lounges in full sun.

A long dock offers swimming and terrific fishing without leaving the house! The Nature Coast area of Florida features terrific fishing (trout, redfish, group, cobia, etc.) along with scalloping, kayaking and boating in clear, warm waters. Or, just enjoy the day by sunning and swimming on our private dock into the Gulf. You can fish right off the dock!

A public boat ramp is two miles away if you want to launch a boat. Bait, tackle and supplies are available at the local marina nearby if you don’t have your own. However, the area offers a number of great fishing guides who provide it all for you!

Kayaking and canoeing are great exercise and spectator sports on our coast, as you can see many varieties of fish and bird life along the water and marsh areas. In this area of the Florida coast, there is a nearly paddling trail, created by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission which offers over 100 miles for extended kayak travel.

There are several state parks nearby which offer bird watching, swimming, hiking and more, along with rivers to go tubing, see the manatees and other wildlife.

The Nature Coast is the last undeveloped area of Florida and as such features miles of wooded coastline and some of the most pristine waterfront bays in the state. While we experience a change of seasons here, the area is still a great escape from the brutal northern winter season experienced elsewhere!

Nearby Gainesville and Tallahassee offer museums, restaurants and other amenities for day trips, if you need a day of stimulation after all your relaxation. Quaint Steinhatchee and Perry are the nearest towns, each offering grocery shopping and restaurants within a 20 minute drive of the home.

Mermaids' Lair offers a full cook's kitchen, dock fishing, floats and other amenities to fully enjoy the sun and water. Whether you want active or restful, this home is a wonderful retreat to recharge and relax.

Writing a book of involved in a longer term project? What a fabulous place from which you can work with out interruption, with DSL access, fax, copier, printer, portable phone with headset, and the best view on earth! Long-term rates are available.

We are pet friendly for small dogs, featuring a dog entrance and private dog yard, as well.

The home features a master bedroom with private full bath and king temperpedic bed; guest room with queen bed and guest bath; and a sun alcove with a twin bed and trundle. Maximum of guests at any time is six.

The home is a non-smoking home. No exceptions.

Magnificent sun sunsets and a place to retreat from the world for a week or longer are available at Mermaids’ Lair. Monthly or seasonal rentals are available. Minimum stay one week. Tax not included. Rates are subject to change without notice. Seasonal and holiday rates may be higher.
