  Spent 12 nights in this unit Feb 25 to March 9, 2013. This is my third time to the Whaler renting through VRBO. This unit is the nicest of the 3 rented. Neal was great to deal with, honest, and answered inquiries promptly. Deal was done without any issues. Condo was very clean upon arrival. The unit was just a portrayed on VRBO. Many extras supplied such as cooler, beach chairs, boogie board. Kitchen had everything we needed. Large wrap around lanai which was in the shade in the afternoon was very nice to return to after a day in the hot sun. View to the ocean and Black Rock was good as you are not blocked by the hotel next door.There are a few wear and tear nicks and scratches on the walls and woodwork but nothing that would prevent me from renting again. Furniture was good but Neal tells me he has new furniture on order for the unit which will make it even nicer. My advice is don't hesitate if you are considering this unit as you will be pleased.

  We just returned from our wonderful Maui vacation. We love staying at the Whaler because of it's perfect location on Kannapali. We have rented from this owner before and once again we were not disappointed. The wrap around lanai and it's views are amazing. The condo was very clean and very well stocked with all the basics. We loved that there were also so many "extras" on hand available for us to use...beach chairs, boogie boards, ice chests etc. It really is a home away from home. Neal is great to work with. He got back to us right away with any questions we had. We would highly recommend this condo to anyone looking for a clean, well appointed place to vacation.

  The Whaler is in the perfect location......that is if you want to be in the middle of the crowds and if you like to snorkel - black rock is awesome!!! We were very disappointed in the unit, overall. It is an old unit with a 'not so great' facelift. The kitchen is adequate. The bathrooms look much better in the pics. The tubs are old and the finishing between the tile and the tub is not done properly and looks terrible. Washer and dryer is a super small stackable and the door to get to it barely works. There are other doors in the unit where the paint or wood is peeling and you are left with wood striped doors on the back side. The front door frame is in need of repair as it apparently has been banged with the deadbolt over and over and never repaired. The carpet needs replaced...dirty and dingy. Tile would be much more suitable for the entire unit. The furniture is very old and disappointed us.....for what we paid, this unit needs to be maintained better. You also pay a cleaning fee - but for what? the top of the fridge has 1/2 inch of dirt, the fake plants are dusty and as said above, the carpet never shampood. The sheets and mattress cover do not fit the bed and would not stay on each night...kids were running the halls during the night which is not the owners fault, but still an annoyance. The unit has a nice wrap around balcony....but very windy and the view is terrible. One side, mountains in the distance (nice), but parking lot and tennis courts below. the other side has another building, parking lot and some ocean in the distance. Not the best!! The pool is super small and not maintained very well! The grounds were generally nice and the underground parking was handy! We needed to pay in full 90 days prior to arrival which i find a little excessive and it took much longer to receive our security deposit than stated in the contract. We had a fabulous trip to Maui as we were not at the unit very often....but, next time - we would definitely stay in a different unit.

  Owner response: I was genuinely surprised that this guest never made any effort to contact me during her stay. Had she done so, I would have offered some immediate options in hopes of resolving any displeasure. The consensus from my guests have been overwhelmingly positive throughout the years with many guests returning year after year. I encourage any guest staying in my unit to contact me if they have any problems. I will make every effort to resolve them.

  Our family just returned from a 17 day vacation to Maui. We stayed in this unit at the Whaler and could not have been more happy! This unit was fully loaded with all the amenities we needed and was well cared for. We have stayed many times at the Whaler, and this unit did not disappoint in any way. We particulary enjoyed the wrap around lanai and beautiful mountain views. We did not expect to have much of an ocean view, but were pleasantly surprised at what a great view of the ocean this unit has. The owner was great to work with, and accomodated our last minute need to add one extra day onto our trip. Overall we would strongly recommend this unit to anyone who is vacationing at the Whaler.

  We stayed in this condo for two weeks in October. We cannot say enough good things about this unit...it is beautiful! Also, the owner, Neal, is absolutely the best, always prompt in returning calls or e-mails and very courteous. Do not hesitate to go and enjoy Maui and this condo.

  My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this condo in October 2010. Neal was great to work with and since it was our honeymoon trip, he added a couple of special discounts and ameneties. The overall location was perfect and we loved having views of the ocean and mountains behind us. Loved being next to Whaler's Village as we walked there everyday. There's a great convenience store within walking distance and a shuttle in front of Whaler's Village that takes you to Lahaina and other nearby locations. We also took advantage of the wonderful kitchen when we decided to cook a couple of nights. Overall, we loved it, the condo is reasonably priced and well-kept. We look forward to future stays here!   The owner was really great to work with and the condo was perfect for a family with a young child. Everything was clean and nice and the views were great from the lanai. You have a partial ocean view but it is actually a great view (and it does overlook a maintenance area but that is well hidden with trees). We thought the Whaler had the best stretch of beach and ocean, you can play in the ocean as opposed to some of the other hotels whose properties front beaches with a lot of coral and rocks. The lobby and Koi pond on the property are beautiful. The pool was nice. Being steps from the Whaler's Village (food, shopping, etc) was also ideal. We would stay here again!

  This was the first time we stayed in a Condo. It was Great. If we ever return to Maui this will be the place to stay. The unit was clean and maintained. Having the grills on property was great for cooking out. You had great views from this corner unit, and we were only steps from the ocean. The owner answered my questions in a timely fashion. This was a good experience with the owner and with Homeaway.com.

  We are very familiar with this property because we have stayed here five times in the past. This is by far the nicest condo we have stayed in. The condo is tastefully furnished, the kitchen is well stocked and recently remodeled, and the view is spectacular. You feel like you are sitting in a tree house! The bed and sofa bed were very comfortable. This condo can easily handle four adults because there is plenty of room. The bathrooms are large and it was especially nice having a washer/dryer in the condo, which is not always the case. The owners were very helpful and accommodating. They were easy to contact and the contract was very thorough. The grounds of the property have recently been updated and the pool remodeled. Everything is in pristine condition. Our one concern is that for a facility of this size, it could use more barbeques as waiting is a common occurance. If you don't get down there early, you often have to wait for one to open up. Even that wasn't so bad because you would strike up conversations with other tenants. The complex is right next door to Whaler's Village, which has plenty of shopping and restaurants. You can't beat the location. I would definitely recommend this condo. You will not be disappointed.

  We stayed in this Condo July 2010. If you are apprehensive about renting a condo from someone you do not know, we would like you to feel confident renting from this gentleman. He was friendly and made it very easy from beginning to end. He responded to every email before and after our trip in a timely fashion. This unit has everything you need including an automatic ice dispenser. We loved the washer and dryer as we packed very lightly. I think we had one of the best views available. The wrapped lanai really allowed us to enjoy the sunrise, sunset, oceanview, mountainview and nightly rainbow. It is shaded so you can enjoy it anytime of the day. We slept so well in the King size bed and loved this seperate bedroom and bath area. Our two girls said the Queen sofa sleeper was very comfortable in the living area and were pleased that they had their own bathroom. We love to snorkel and this can be done right on the beach, steps away from your condo,which is amazing. There are other spots just minutes away you can drive to. Rent your equipment from Snorkel Bob's downtown for $9.00/week a person. Yes, only $9.00, instead of on the beach for alot more. The pool at the Whaler is cozy and many families hang out there. We spent just as much time poolside as we did in the ocean. You can snorkel, swim, parasail and jet ski right outside the condo. The exericise room had everything you need. We will definately return to this unit, if we are lucky enough to vacation on Maui again. Our deposit was returned to us within a month of our return. Hope you are able to enjoy this beautiful spot on Kaanapali beach.
