Experience the beautiful sunrises over the Bay. Relax on the waterfront deck or the large flagstone patio and watch the sailboats and ships pass many miles offshore. Explore the coastline on two new double sea kayaks included with the house rental. The Chesapeake Bay is well-known as a bird lovers paradise. From the beach house you will see local osprey, great blue heron, bald eagles and pelican diving and catching fish. You may see a thousand Canadian geese arriving together to spend the night near shore. Cardinals, blue birds and other song birds also abound among the magnolias, azaleas, crepe myrtles, dogwoods, and towering pine trees.

Reedville is a small town of beautifully restored turn-of-the-century Victorian homes and great seafood restaurants. Local activity options abound. Charter a fishing or tour boat from a local marina. Take the daily ferry to Tangier or Smith Island, two picture perfect villages on islands in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay. Or bring your own boat and use the public boat ramp right down the road.

Explore the local farmers' markets or the Reedville Fisherman's Museum. Shop for art or antiques in nearby villages. Birdwatch at two Northern Neck nature preserves, golf at any of six local courses, or tour several nearby wineries. Explore the region's many historic attractions including the childhood homes of George Washington and Robert E. Lee.

The 4000 square foot house was renovated from top to bottom in 2005. It features an open floor plan and endless Bay views from every room. The huge great room features an antique wood-burning fireplace, 42" Plasma HDTV, large sectional sofa, and comfortable leather chairs. It is open to a kitchen with new stainless steel appliances and four-person breakfast bar, and to a large dining room with table for eight. The huge front porch, giant all season sun/game room, or fully-screened rear porch are all perfect spots for breakfast with the family or to read a good book.

A large private studio apartment above the detached garage is included in the rental. It features a queen bed, double futon, full bath, air conditioning and heat, SATTV/VCR/DVD, full kitchen and elevated deck with dinette and great Bay views. The apartment accommodates 2-4 and is perfect for extra relatives or friends.

In the main house, the upstairs king bedroom features a large in-suite full bathroom with double sinks. The upstairs queen bedroom includes an attached annex room with a full-size baby crib and shares a full hall bath with the "kids bedroom" with two double beds. The queen bedroom on the first floor has a full bath directly across the hall. The house also features a 12 x 10 private double outdoor shower with hot water.

Chesapeake Bay Estate - Private Sand Beach and 30 Mile View

Year Purchased: 2005

Why the Owner Chose Reedville

We had never even been to the "Northern Neck" of Virginia when we drove the 2.5 hours from Northern Virginia to view this house on a sunny Saturday in October 2004. Awestruck by the amazing beach and property -- and somewhat intimidated by the renovation work needed on the house -- we decided to buy the house even though at the time we knew nothing about the local area and had not looked at any other homes for comparison. What we did know was that we wanted a place to get away from the chaos, pressure, and traffic of the Washington, DC area. We wanted a place where our children, relatives, and friends could slow down and relax with us. We wanted a place on the water where we could swim, boat, kayak and play in the sand. We wanted a place without traffic lights, without fences, without fast food, without department stores, and without movie rental chains. We wanted a place where our dogs could play in the woods, our kids could climb trees, and we could all spend time together.

The Unique Benefits at this House

We enjoy the sunrises over the Bay, relaxing on the hammock, lounging on the beach, and playing badminton, bocce and volleyball. We enjoy crab cake dinners and ice cream at the local ice-cream parlor. We enjoy biking and walking the country roads. We enjoy the local wineries, farmers markets and museums. We enjoy kayaking, fishing and and boating on the Bay.

Owner's Map of Reedville

My wife and I are from Northport (Long Island), New York. We have two children and two dogs. We live in Northern Virginia (Alexandria). We love the water (swimming, kayaking, boating, etc.) as well as biking and hiking.

    • We loved our stay at your wonderful home. We were able to enjoy a great weather week in September with our family, friends and our lab, Maggie! We could not get enough of the many offerings for our kids with the games, sports equipment and beach! We managed to fit in a few trips to Chitterchats for Ice Cream, best flavors to choose from! We also enjoyed a bushel of crabs from a local restaurant on the back patio! We would love to come back, it was a perfect place to chill and enjoy each family and friends!

We had a fabulous time playing foosball, in fact we held a foosball championship! Our dog, Josie could not stay away from the beach. Our favorite room was the game room but our favorite thing was watching the sun rise and set over the bBay. We got great pictures of it. We love the house and hope to come again soon!

Our stay at your house was wonderful. The views were absolutely breathtaking. We got to see a bald eagle and a skunk too. Even though the weather turned colder, the fire pit and fireplace made it very enjoyable. The sunrises over the water were spectacular. We tried most of your restaurant suggestionss and we were very pleased. We even had ice cream at Chitterchats.

We all had a wonderful time at the beach house. Especially loved the beach, making sandcastles, fishing, kayaking, swimming. We enjoyed grilled fresh fish dinners -- we caught 87 fish on the Silver Mist Charter boat. We had a wonderful week, you have a beautiful view -- I enjoyed the sunrise every morning (the only positive to being up that early with a 2-year old!) Hope to be back next year !

A beautiful home and a gorgeous view! Our week was great (100 F plus everyday)! We swam all week. We went to Tangiers and spent time golfing and boating. We crashed the pool at the Tides Inn. We caught frogs at night and were kept awake by a cricket in our bedroom but we didn't care because its the country! The bikes and toys were a huge bonus for our active/athletic boys. They fell asleep early every night. Our cellphones did not have service and for that we thank you!

A most beautiful home and setting. We totally enjoyed the sunrises and settings. You have put a lot of hard work into making this a joy for whoever might stay. It was also very nice to have our own private beach. We all enjoyed a week of true leisure and relaxation. We were surely glad to have visited the "Bay". Your home of course made that special.

What a beautiful place! The house is absolutely beautiful. I love the original hardwood floors and the lovely colors you've chosen for the interior. I have to say however, that the inner beauty is really dwarfed by the spectacular views of the bay. We spent hours and hours outside enjoying the beauty of God's creation. The moon coming up over the water is a sight to behold. Thanks for your kindness in opening up your home for others to enjoy.

Absolutely Heavenly! We watched the birds offshore -- osprey, pelicans and gulls and tree frogs on the windows. I can't imagine that there is a more beautiful or relaxing place on earth. Hope to see you next summer.
