Beautiful home, lovely property, fun times!

Guest: Georgia (Richmond, Virginia)
Date of Stay: 04/11/12 Review Submitted: 04/16/12

Your home is lovely--so comfortable. We slept beautifully (comfy beds) and ate all our meals in (well equipped kitchen). The large dining room table had just the right number of chairs! The yard is beautifully and meticulously landscaped. And the small beach and equipment great for kids. We spent time playing in the yard and down at the beach, playing ball in the huge yard, swinging in the hammock, going on small walks, and lounging around reading indoors and out. We built two fires in the pit and roasted marshmallows and baked apples. A perfect stay!

Absolutely Wonderful - Five STARS!*****

Stayed at this property for a brief/short stay in mid-July. Let me first stay the owner (Tom) is very accomodating and is available to answer any questions and to make sure your stay is enjoyable. My family had never been to Reedville and we did not know what to expect. But once we arrrived at this beautiful home, we knew we had found a little piece of heaven right here in Reedville on this beautiful estate. The property is as described in the description. The home was immaculate. The furnishings were of the utmost stellar quality. I was most pleased because it allowed our family to enjoy some quality time together in an environment that was both peaceful and enjoyable. There was something for each and every age group to enjoy. There ended up being 15 in our group ranging from the ages of 3 thru 60. And no one was ever bored.... NO ONE!!! The kitchen was well stocked with all the extra essentials that you may have forgotten to bring. I will just say this in closing, we will make this home an annual retreat. God Bless and Tom thanks again for the wonderful time shared by all.

Springtime Stay

Guest: Mel (CT)
Date of Stay: 03/26/11 Review Submitted: 04/13/11

My husband and I enjoyed our stay very much. The house was very clean and neat. The owners run a professional rental. Documents were in order, directions and instructions were very clear and they provided a nice list of things to do in the area. If you visit the Northern Neck in the Spring is to want to visit during a "quiet" time (which we did). Prior to May 1st, many of the area attractions/things to do have not yet reopened for the late Spring/Summer season. We would definitely recommend this house to our friends.

great family vacation spot

Wonderful roomy house. Great beach for kids. Calm water for kayaking. Fun activity room. Only thing missing is a place to take long walks on the beach.

Owner response:Thank you for your comments. Our beach is indeed great for kids -- 200 feet of soft sand and gentle waves -- and you don't have to share it with anyone else! There is a 204 acre public beachfront nearby (Hughlett Point Natural Area Preserve) for those seeking long beach walks.

Beautiful well-equipped house!

We spent a long weekend at the house with our dogs, and were so impressed at how nicely the house is set up and equipped. The kitchen has what you need to cook, and there's a huge grill and separate firepit for s'mores! There are plenty of outdoor seating areas and a nice beach with lots of shallow water - perfect for dogs and people to go for a swim. The owners are also nice and responsive. We enjoyed visiting nearby towns also - Kilmarnock was a favorite. Overall a great experience!

Wonderful Getaway Vacation Home

Guest: Amy Hall (New Hope, PA)
Date of Stay: 01/27/10 Review Submitted: 02/10/10

My husband and I enjoyed a 6 night stay at this lovely home. The property is as nice as the pictures show both inside and out. We were only 2 people, but it is a large and roomy house, with extra bedroom space and a family room including a large sunroom. The setting is absolutely incredible, the back yard is huge and very private, you have a stunning view right on the water. Inside was everything that you would need in the kitchen, laundry room, and large TV and wireless internet.

Much Needed R&R

Guest: LadyRed (New York, NY)
Date of Stay: 06/01/09 Review Submitted: 06/09/09

My family and I spent a wonderful week at the beach house. My mother is undergoing chemotherapy so we were looking for a quiet place away from the hustle of the big city in order for all of us, especially my mom to get some much needed rest and relaxation. The beach house was beautiful and the tranquility we found was just what the doctor ordered! We traveled with a relatives jack russell terrier and I think he enjoyed the trip the most!! With all the swimming and running around he did he even lost two pounds! The only issue we encountered while on our trip was not associated with the home itself, rather one of the surrounding towns. We are of hispanic decent and in small town Virginia they aren't exactly used to folks like us so lets just say we didn't receive a warm welcome at all. Regardless of that incident, we loved our stay at the house so much that we still plan on returning before the year is over!!

Owner response:We are very glad your family (and your jack russell !)enjoyed your week at our beach house. I'm sorry to hear that someone in one nearby town was less than hospitable. We have had folks from all over the world stay at the house over a five year period and have not heard any concerns before about a lack of local hospitality. We sincerely hope and expect that it was just one bad apple you encountered. We look forward to your return later this year !

My extended family (with children and dogs) stayed here for Thanksgiving and had a great time. There's plenty of room for everyone to have their own space and when it's not too cold there's a lot of room outside also. If you feel the need to go out and explore there are several cute towns within a 30 minute drive or so.

kids, dogs, family will love it!

Date of Stay: 11/24/08 Review Submitted: 12/07/08

We stayed for the week of Thanksgiving with 10 adults, 2 kids and a dog and it was perfect. They have ample space indoors, enough tv's for football and a big enough kitchen for cooking. There is also add on rooms so you can escape the television if wanted. The outdoors is the best! There's a playground set that's great for kids, a huge backyard for dogs (well trained as it's unfenced) to run around, 2 adironack chairs overlooking their beach and the water and your own private beach area to play in the sand. They also have bikes, a trailer for the kids, toys for both boys and girls, and dishes/pots/pans for cooking. One note, it runs off of well water so come equipped with your own drinking water. Including some for coffee as you'll want to have some when you're watching the sunrise outside. They also have a bedroom and full bathroom on the main level which sleeps 2 and was great for my dad who could not climb stairs. We truly enjoyed our time and hope you do too!

Owner response:We are thrilled that all 12 in your family were comfortable and enjoyed the many amenities we provide for adults and children. Like most waterfront homes on the Bay, the home's water comes from a deep artesian well on the property, passes through a whole house water filter, and is regularly tested. It is perfectly drinkable but, understandably, many folks will prefer to bring bottled drinking water.

We loved our stay at your wonderful home. We were able to enjoy a great weather week in September with our family, friends and our lab, Maggie! We could not get enough of the many offerings for our kids with the games, sports equipment and beach! We managed to fit in a few trips to Chitterchats for Ice Cream, best flavors to choose from! We also enjoyed a bushel of crabs from a local restaurant on the back patio! We would love to come back, it was a perfect place to chill and enjoy each family and friends!

Women's Weekend

Guest: Women's Weekend 2008 (Washington, DC, USA)
Date of Stay: 10/24/08 Review Submitted: 10/31/08

My family and I chose this lovely home as our setting for our annual Women's Weekend getaway. We traveled from DC, MD, NC, NJ, OH, MI, MA, AZ, IL and Mumbai, India! This house was just perfect for a Fall mini-vacation! The house was very comfortable, with great bedrooms and a fantastic view! The kids playground was great as were the amenenties available for use e.g. bikes, foosball table, kayaks, etc. We enjoyed coffee on the deck as some of us were able to rise earlier than the sun! The beach view was tranquil and surrounding towns were very quaint. The Fisherman's museum as well old Victorian homes are worth a visit. The house was well-equipped and spacious. A nap in the Autumn sun out on the lawn was worth a million bucks! The owner was most helpful and responsive. This is a lovely property for those looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. It's an easy and pretty drive from the DC area. We hope you enjoy it as much as our group did. New Years Eve

Guest: Los Borachos (DC/Baltimore)
Date of Stay: 12/01/07 Review Submitted: 01/23/08

My travel group stayed there New Years Eve past. We had a great time, and it would be a five if we had stayed there in the warmer weather I'm sure. If you are heavily into having dinner parties, this is a great house! The open first floor is perfect for groups of 6-12. Lots of workspace for cooks, and a great dining room. For New Years dinner we moved the dining room table in front of the fireplace, and put the beautiful roll out bar in corner by the fireplace as well, and it was a perfect atmosphere. Georgeous dinner set up, and we had the whole dining room as a dance floor. There is a grociery store in Kilmarnock on Irvington Rd called Tri-Star supermarket. If you are a wine or beer drinker they have a VERY good selection for a supermarket, and they DO sell on Sundays. Also, the ladies in the hot food section make some FANTASTIC fried chicken there and it's only $2.99 a pound. There will never be a Popeyes or KFC in Kilmarnock as long as that place is open. For golfers, King Cater golf course is 20 miles away (about 5 minutes or less past the Tri-Star market) and its VERY affordable and VERY fun to play.

Fabulous winter getaway

Date of Stay: 12/01/07 Review Submitted: 12/23/07

I was in awe at how the pictures were exactly like the property. 9 women and I had planned a weekend getaway for my 40th birthday. The house was emmaulate and the setting breathtaking. I enjoyed sun rises, sea kayaking (yes in the winter), fires and just sitting on the wonderful deck enjoying the amazing views. The beachfront is such a nice feature...easy entrance to the water, and I know wonderful for small children. This property is a away from it all.....very secluded and away from all the chaos some vacation spots offer. Enjoy local small towns and fare. The house was spacious...we never felt crowded and the kitchen....was large. I can imagine that is would be a wonderful summer vacation as well and plan to take my family this summer. Enjoy this wonderful home and the rest and relaxation a vacation can truely be!!!!

We had a fabulous time playing foosball, in fact we held a foosball championship! Our dog, Josie could not stay away from the beach. Our favorite room was the game room but our favorite thing was watching the sun rise and set over the bBay. We got great pictures of it. We love the house and hope to come again soon!

Our stay at your house was wonderful. The views were absolutely breathtaking. We got to see a bald eagle and a skunk too. Even though the weather turned colder, the fire pit and fireplace made it very enjoyable. The sunrises over the water were spectacular. We tried most of your restaurant suggestionss and we were very pleased. We even had ice cream at Chitterchats.

We all had a wonderful time at the beach house. Especially loved the beach, making sandcastles, fishing, kayaking, swimming. We enjoyed grilled fresh fish dinners -- we caught 87 fish on the Silver Mist Charter boat. We had a wonderful week, you have a beautiful view -- I enjoyed the sunrise every morning (the only positive to being up that early with a 2-year old!) Hope to be back next year !

A beautiful home and a gorgeous view! Our week was great (100 F plus everyday)! We swam all week. We went to Tangiers and spent time golfing and boating. We crashed the pool at the Tides Inn. We caught frogs at night and were kept awake by a cricket in our bedroom but we didn't care because its the country! The bikes and toys were a huge bonus for our active/athletic boys. They fell asleep early every night. Our cellphones did not have service and for that we thank you!

Thanks for sharing your glorious home. The July 4th Parade in Reedville was great and the kids are still eating through mounds of candy that was thrown. We fell in love with the whole area so much that we bought a house [nearby] on the water!

This has been one of the most peaceful, relaxing vacations I've ever had. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home. Sitting down by the water each morning (cup of strong coffee in hand) watching the sun rise was a highlight. And we too were fortunate enough to see the Bald Eagle, among other fantastic birds. I will look forward to another vacation here hopefully in the near future…. Next time going for morning runs in shorts and tank tops !!! The cold temperatures this visit were conducive to many hours of reading and studying. Thanks again.

We had a fantastic Thanksgiving week. The weather was a bit chilly but we enjoyed many games of dominos, scrabble and cards on the dining room table. We loved the view of the water and saw an abudance of shooting stars as well as three bald eagles (our first). Jackson (our Corgis) loved Frisbee in the back yard! Thank you so much we had a wonderful time.

What a glorious weekend we had enjoying your beautiful vacation home. Thank you so much for sharing with us. Who would have guessed that we would be blessed with weather in the 70's during the first weekend in November? We enjoyed the peaceful mornings near the water, laughed as the three women tried to paddle out into the bay on the Gilligan's inflatable raft, steamed and picked a bushel of crabs, played dominos in the evenings, and just had a delightfully relaxing time. The serenity and solitude beckons us to return. We also enjoyed the bikes after inflating the tires. It’s clear why you love this place so much. Thanks for sharing this gem with us. We will carry many fond memories with us as we return home refreshed. We anticipate a day on the bay fishing tomorrow before returning home to Harrisonburg. Our only regret is that the weekend got over to fast. Thanks again! God bless you!

Thank you for hosting our beloved "Beard Bash" annual get together. Every year we choose a spot along the eastern seaboard, and this place has been one of the best locations yet. Friends and family seems to be what this place is about. On this the seventh anniversary/annual college reunion, the atmosphere promoted relaxation and an opportunity to rekindle old friendships. The highlight of the weekend was seeing the bald eagle who perches along your shore, flying low and diving into the water for its meal. Thank you again for a memorable weekend.

Thank you for opening up your beautiful home to us. Although the drive down from New York City was long and tiring it was well worth the trip. The breathtaking views of the bay, the beautifully landscaped property and most of all the private beach were a perfect backdrop for a wonderful family vacation. A lot of love was put into renovating this home and it really shows! We would be remiss if we didn't mention the delight our little ones took in the "window" frogs.

It was also very nice to have our own private beach. We all enjoyed a week of true leisure and relaxation. We were surely glad to have visited the "Bay". Your home of course made that special.

What a beautiful place! The house is absolutely beautiful. I love the original hardwood floors and the lovely colors you've chosen for the interior. I have to say however, that the inner beauty is really dwarfed by the spectacular views of the bay. We spent hours and hours outside enjoying the beauty of God's creation. The moon coming up over the water is a sight to behold. Thanks for your kindness in opening up your home for others to enjoy.

Wonderful place! The boys spent much of their time in the bay with our canoe. We all loved the ospreys and listening to the quail. Most of the week we had the whole area to ourselves, though very hot it was great to spend much of the time by the bay reading. Hope to be here next year.
