Roomy house in a quiet setting

Guest: dateline1 (D.C. area)
Date of Stay: 04/09/12 Review Submitted: 04/20/12

We enjoyed the quiet setting and the well-equipped house. My dog, son and I enjoyed wading in the water at low tide. Unfortunately, I couldn't try out the canoe or kayak due to an injury. There were some very nice touches in the kitchen, like the large deep sink, which made washing up or using large pots easier -- First place I've stayed where I didn't wish I'd brought some kitchen gadget I needed. It was a busy day on the road if more than one car passed by. When we first arrived, there was some minor generator noise on a property across the road, but you couldn't hear it in or behind the house; and it stopped that evening anyway. There is a small working farm on the road, which the Silver Beach houses circle. It seemed to be low-key. One of the properties on the other side of the circle has a horse behind an electric fence, so keep your dog on a leash if you walk by this one. The horse seems quite mellow but you don't want the dog to scare the horse or be hurt by the wire. The only very mild complaint I have is that there computer needs updating (but who goes on vacation to check email anyway) and you can't get cel phone service inside -- just go out to the road and it's fine. But that's not a complaint -- I loved being away from it all.

Wonderful Girls Weekend

Guest: Pat (New Castle, DE)
Date of Stay: 10/07/11 Review Submitted: 10/18/11

We chose Silver Beach Cove for our annual Girl’s weekend and couldn’t have been happier. From the moment we arrived, we were drawn in by the beautiful home and the awesome scenery. The views, both from indoors, the screened porch and deck were spectacular. Our stay was in early October and while the foliage had not yet changed color yet, the reflection of the trees was beautiful….can only imagine how it would look with the fall colors reflecting on the water. We saw egret and an osprey (luckily we had someone in our group who was expert at spotting). As we sat on the deck with our morning coffee & tea, we all dreamed of what it would be like to be retired and live in this house and to be able to do this every day. How awesome it would be to see the changing of all four seasons here! The house itself offered everything to make our stay comfortable. There were plenty of towels and linens and we really appreciated the staples provided in the kitchen (spices, refrigerator condiments, flour, sugar, tea, pots/pans, paper products, etc.) The owner also provided useful information and recommendations for the area. While we did not try Henrietta’s bread, we did have a meal at the Exmore Diner (yummy). We only explored the area slightly since we wanted to make the most of the time we had at the property so we cooked the rest of our meals there. It is obvious the owner, Karen, put much thought and time into making sure her guests would have everything they need. I have rented several other vacation properties through VRBO and have found that not all owners provide the same personal level of care. I definitely hope to return to this property in the near future.

A wonderful autum get-a-way

We are two couples in our 70's and have been friends for a very long time. One couple lives in the northeast U.S. and the other lives in the south. Silver Beach Cove was the perfect location for us to vacation together and relax. We had a wonderful week even with cloudy weather and rain. The cottage is very spacious, clean, comfortable and quiet. It is very well equiped and we enjoyed using the bicycles, canoe and kayak. We found plenty of good restaurants including the Exmore Diner. This is a great get-a-way location.

Peaceful Paradise

My husband and I, along with a few friends and our dog, spent 10 wonderful days at Silver Beach Cove. The home and setting are quite conducive to relaxation. Karen, the owner with whom we had the most contact, was extremely gracious and informative. We especially appreciated how pet-friendly she and the house are. The listing accurately reflects the amenities, but the pictures do not do it justice. Not only is the home clean and well-maintained, it is extremely comfortable and well out-fitted for time indoors or out. We made use of: kayak, canoe, bikes, fireplace, pancake griddle, baking supplies, movies, internet access, beach within walking distance, beach within paddling distance, and outdoor shower. We also brought a small sailing dinghy that we were able to launch from the dock. Perhaps the best feature of the home is the gracious screen porch. We spent hours on it every day and took most meals outside. (We enjoyed local seafood, corn, and peaches and regretted not making an order for homemade bread with a local woman.) A highlight was seeing a bald eagle circling over the cove. We also spent several minutes watching a great horned owl perched on a mailbox on Prettyman Circle. When we could bring ourselves to leave the porch, we enjoyed several outings. The Exmore Diner had great food at bargain prices, and we also enjoyed lunch on the water in Onancock. We always find browsing the Blue Crow antique mall a treat, and this year we made it to Exmore's town-wide yardsale. All in all, it was a delight, and I'd highly recommend this property.

A June Week at Silver Beach Cove

Guest: Betsie (Santa Clara, CA)
Date of Stay: 06/11/11 Review Submitted: 06/24/11

A bottle of Church Creek rose wine was set out for us when we arrived. It's one of our favorite wineries on the Eastern Shore! The kitchen was very well stocked with dishes, pots and pans and we cooked in almost every evening. The big windows in the dining area had great water views and from the livingroom we looked out over fields of grain that reminded us of Southern France. The screen room was a good place for our breakfast coffee. Although we spent a lot of time lazing around, here are some nearby activities: wine tasting, excursion to Tangier Island, buying fresh seafood at Tim's on Hwy 13 (awesome scallops), fishing off the pier, bird watching (egrets and herons), walking the Prettyman Circle loop--we saw a turtle on the road one day. We brought our bike helmets and had every intention of biking on the scenic and level back roads but hated to leave the house it was so beautiful and comfortable. We had a wonderful, peaceful week on Silver Beach Cove and were reluctant to leave. We would definitely recommend this vacation rental to friends and family.

Five Star Experience!!! Beautiful Property!

Nestled in a rural cove in the Eastern Shore of Virginia, this modern, well-built home provided us with a relaxing, wonderful, long-weekend-getaway in early October. The HOME overlooks a cove with the Chesapeake Bay in the distance. A screened in porch (a room in itself) provides a great view and comfortable breezes. The large, shaded, well landscaped property sprawls from a nearby soybean field down to the water's edge and the Smiths provide a canoe, fire pit, a dock and an outdoor shower. Inside we found three good-sized bedrooms, two and a half modern baths and a very operational, up-to-date, immaculate kitchen. The living area provided cozy couches and chairs and a beautiful gas fireplace. Breakfast and dinner can be enjoyed at a large table overlooking the cove. We watched a bald eagle circle the cove our first morning as we enjoyed our coffee. The Eastern Shore is quite a different summer destination from the NJ beaches where we grew up. The owners provided maps, books and a very nice review of the area that only a local could provide. The restaurants were good and we felt welcomed at every stop. There is an interesting history to the peninsula as the local museums are informative and inexpensive. Virginia Beach is only about an hour away and Busch Gardens/Williamsburg is a less than a two hour trip. Plenty of books, games and videos for children and adults will entertain the troops on those stay-at-home nights. Reward yourself with some time at Silver Beach Cove...You'll enjoy your stay!

Relaxing Family Getaway

Guest: CC (USA)

We had a lovely time reconnecting as a family. We enjoyed playing games, lounging in the hammock and biking around the horseshoe. Cape Charles was such a great little town-local shops and cafes. We also loved the beach at Cape Charles-our children were able to play games and tube in the quiet waters. It was great that we did not have to worry about transporting our own bikes and linens. It definitely made our time more enoyable. Our children look forward to returning.

Maryland/New Jersey Friends

The four of us thoroughly enjoyed this attractive, modern, well-equipped vacation home. The pictures don't do it justice! There are several places to sit and enjoy the views of woods and water - on the porch, the deck, by the fire pit, on the hillside overlooking the water, and down on the dock. We only got to explore some of the many interesting places within a day trip's drive. We intend to come back next year to explore the rest!

Wonderfully relaxing vacation cottage

Guest: Lois (Rockville, MD)
Date of Stay: 07/10/10 Review Submitted: 10/23/10

My husband and 2 daughters absolutely loved vacationing at this lovely cottage -- quiet and immaculate with lots of ammenities. Originally we chose to rent this particular cottage because it has internet and I thought that I might need that capability even when on vacation for some obligations at work. Lucky for me, the work obligations did not appear during our vacation at this cottage, so that we got the opportunity to focus completely on the view, canoe, crabbing, swing, porch, kitchen, books, movies, and games in this super home. My daughters thought that sleeping on the loft was the best. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful. Two thumbs way up :-)

A home away from home, nestled in a cove

Guest: Two Virginians (Lexington, VA)
Date of Stay: 06/20/10 Review Submitted: 07/17/10

Our family plus two small dogs enjoyed a relaxing week at Silver Cove. The owners were honest, friendly, and helpful and explained exactly what we should bring and what amenities were provided. The property is beautiful and inviting, with a cottage-like house overlooking a cove that enters into the Chesapeake Bay. Daily tides come and go and reveal an ecosystem at work, with crabs marching along the shore, jumping fish, and birds flying among the trees. Agricultural fields greet you as you approach the cove, with specialized cash crops of hedge plants and tomatoes and as you get closer you will see wheat or soybean in various stages of growth and harvesting. Very limited cell phone service at the home but can be accessed within a mile - this was not a problem with us since we wanted to escape the daily grind while remaining connected through wireless internet and a land phone. It's 10 miles to the nearest gas station, restaurant, or store so come prepared to take it easy and enjoy life with your family the way it was meant to be: cooking breakfasts of pancakes and french toast with the large griddle in the kitchen, playing horseshoes, canoeing and kayaking. We brought our own bikes and rode 20 miles a day along the flat roads toward Exmore. Living in a mountainous region this was a great, easy cycling route. The Exmore Diner is not to be missed if you venture out for a meal. You will be surprised! Security deposit was returned within the mentioned time frame. One of the few places that allows dogs - and your doggies will have a great time!

Silver Beach Cove

Guest: Canuck (Cobourg, Ontario)
Date of Stay: 06/05/10 Review Submitted: 07/14/10

My family and I vacationed at the cottage the beginning of June and had a wonderful time. We were very happy with the property. It was a treat to be able to wake up in the morning and sit out in the screened in veranda and enjoy the sounds of the birds and soak up the scenery. The owners were very helpful with suggestions of things to do and restaurants to try out. Nice and private, the perfect place to relax and maybe take a canoe or kayak and paddle around for a bit. Have only good things to say about the place and the owners....

My husband and I, plus our two dogs stayed in this lovely home for four nights, five days in October of 2006. The Smiths thought of everything to make our stay perfect. We will definitely be back. The scenery and peacefulness were just what we needed to get away from the hectic city life.
