Rusticate in Comfort in a Fully Renovated and Appointed Vacation Home . . .
- Minimum stay:2 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Built in 1875, the newly renovated and modernized Smallidge House sits on Main Street in the center of the village of Winter Harbor, one short mile from the breathtaking Schoodic section of Acadia National Park. Perfect for large families and groups of friends, this lovely 5-bed/2.5 bath home comfortably sleeps 10 and truly will be your home away from home.
When I renovated my ancestral home last year the goal was to maintain the historic integrity of the property while modernizing it to suit the desires of modern vacationers. The result is a large and open floor plan on the ground level, including new red oak hardwood floors, a Nantucket-style all-season sun porch facing Main Street, a modern kitchen featuring stainless appliances, new tile bathrooms, built-in bookcases, new memory foam beds with down comforters and 600 thread count linens and new carpeting in the sleeeping quarters.

The house was beautiful and very well stocked. The open design and free were a bonus for us as family gathered and visitied with each other. I would recommend this property to others and will come back myself if planning a trip in the area.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Owner info
About the owner: (from left) My cousin, Brent (owner of Hurd Builders and renovator of my beautiful home); my grandfather, Snookie; and me. The photo was taken on Lobster Festival in August of 2011. I grew up in Winter Harbor, a town in which my ancestors settled in the late 1700's. And I can say, and so many of my childhood friends agree, that it was the greates place in the world to be a kid. I have a deep love for the area and it was a dream of mine to own a home there, until it actually came to pass in 2006. Between the Schoodic section of Acadia National Park, the fishing community (which is the heart and sould of Winter Harbor) and the gorgeous and historic summer community of Grindstone Neck, my town offers an ideal place for families to get away from the chaos of everyday life, enjoy great comfort, scenery, activities and dining, and remember a time when life moved to the rhythm of of the seasons and when people didn't need to lock their doors (most of us still don't). So if you're looking for a beautiful property to relax in while you enjoy one of the most beautiful places in America, come and stay in Winter Harbor. You'll find us very neighborly! Sincerely, Josh Shafer
