Surry is on the coast about a 1-1/4-hour drive southeast of Bangor. We have a beach on Union River Bay suitable for swimming and private sunbathing. A public beach and pier are one mile away on bicycle-friendly Newbury Neck Road. Twenty minute-drive to Ellsorth or Blue Hill. Forty minutes to Bar Harbor and the grandeur of Acadia National Park
We have 3.5 acres--more than half in woods, no close neighbors. There is a wharf at the public beach where lobstermen dock their boats and sell lobsters, crabs, etc to the proprietor, our friend, Perry Long, who will cook the catch for you for take out or eating on the pier
We are at 22 Springbound Lane (opposite the yellow road sign indic-ating a hard right turn)on Newbury Neck Road, which is is a dream for cyclists, joggers and walkers. It's 4.5 miles from our property to the southern tip of the peninsula. I cycle the round-trip frequently past the public beach, lobster shack, old farms, vacation cottages and the hoary Bayview Cemetery which contains the bones of long-forgotten sea-faring pioneers. Wild turkeys are common as are deer. A big buck with trophy antlers ambled across the road before me one morning.
