Andros is one of the closest Greek islands to Athens (only two hours away by ferry) and next to Tinos. Alternative access to the island is to fly to the international airport of Mykonos island and from there take the ferry to Andros (1,5 to 2 hours). Andros is the northernmost and one of the most attractive islands of the Cyclades and second in area after Naxos, with traditional and very picturesque villages.
The fortified capital of the island, Chora (30 klm away), is a real jewel, which combines Venetian and Cycladic architecture; narrow stone paved alleys, arcades and bright colored flowers.
Its main port is at Gavrio, with a regular connection to Rafina, while the ports of Batsi, Chora, and Korthi can facilitate fishing, touristic and private vessels.
At the western part of Andros there is a plethora of big sandy beaches, easily accessible and developed. Those seeking quiet beaches and rough landscapes should visit the northeastern and southeastern parts. There are many rivers and torrents and plenty of springs. Ravines have rich vegetation with plane and walnut trees, while the slopes (especially at the south) are full of oak trees.
