Soco house description
This magical estate is a dream rental for a group or family that is looking for a creative, funky home experience in the heart of Austin. From here you can walk or bike to about 1,000 great restaurants, coffee shops, venues, you name it, and come home after a day of adventure to cook a meal in the gourmet kitchen, have a cocktail in the clocktower, or soak in the landscaped jacuzzi. This house is an adventure in itself, right off of So. Congress (SoCo) in the heart of the city. The property is private, the house, an architectural fantasy, straight out of a C.S. Lewis novel. Spacious and beautiful, artistic and quirky, in an exceptional location, this unique house is a true gem.
Only a two minute walk to South Congress, and many Austin landmarks including The Continental Club, Guero's, Jo's Coffee Shop, Vespaio, Woodland Cafe, Perla, Hopdoddy's, Amy's Ice Cream, the list goes on and on. Walk the other direction to South 1st (less than a minute) to Bouldin Creek Coffeehouse, Torchy's Trailer Park, Elizabeth St. Cafe, Freddie's, Place, Thai Fresh ... Seriously, you could stay here a month, walk less than 8 minutes, have great food, and not eat at the same place twice. And this is not mentioning the many cute shops, boutiques, and awesome vintage clothing stores as well.
Downtown, Auditorium Shores, The Ladybird Lake hike and bike trail, the bats, and the Convention Center (about 2/3 of a mile) are easy to get to by foot (10-15 min.), bike (8 min), bus (5 min), or short pedi-cab (time depends on peddler's strength).
Amenities include a clean and functional hot tub, and landscaped yard with vegetables and fruit gardens, a gas barbeque, three stories of balconies (including one with a downtown view), sunny and private back deck, two spirited Live Oak Trees with Moroccan lanterns, a secret passageway, a spiral staircase into a clocktower, an office, A/V system with indoor and outdoor music, and a yoga room.
This house has a ton of charm. No two rooms are alike and I got lost the first time I wandered through the house. Also, it leans more toward the quirky than traditional. For example, one of the bedrooms has two doors, one into a three-story clock-tower, though both require going through another of the bedrooms to get in and out. Another of the bedrooms has floor to ceiling curtains as one of its walls. Another of the bedrooms, has a balcony with a downtown view; and another has a pyramid ceiling. All in all, it's a very unique, inspiring and comfortable home.
Aside from the kitchen, living room, dining room and bathrooms, there are six additional rooms that serve several purposes. Three of the rooms are dedicated bedrooms with comfortable queen-sized beds. There are three other rooms that we use for offices and a yoga room, two of which we have converted into additional bedrooms when needed. When converted into bedrooms, we have queen-sized, deluxe Aerobed double air mattresses for these rooms, which are quite comfortable, firm, and even have a headboard. We have had several guests sleep on these mattresses (as have we) and the unanimous report is that they are comfy. There is also a nice, long and comfortable couch if extra sleeping space is required.
There are two bathrooms, including a high-ceiling shower with a window in one, and a clawfoot tub in the other. The kitchen is full of windows and light, with Thermador stove and appliances, and laundry room with washer and dryer. The living room is spacious and warm. Wifi is available.
This house is precious, and precious to us, so responsible guests only please. No pets. The house comes with a sweet and loving indoor/outdoor kitty.
If you are interested let's talk on the phone and see if it is a good fit. Thank you!

Weekend at Austin
Its a wonderful home with space to spare. Its architectural design and owners personal detail makes it exciting and very cozy to appreciate the time and stay. All amenities work great. Whether its a cook out in the rear deck or enjoying the front porch, its an exciting way to spend the day at home. Its very recommendable for anyone that wants to spend some time at Austin and get to know its whereabouts. Had a great time and enjoyed it much!! For sure we will be back! Thanks!!

Dear Brian and Abbie, Thank you for opening up your incredible home to us all. My family loved the house, not only the comfort and location, but also the intriguing details and design. Your house is extraordinary and a one-of-a-kind. As you know from meeting my family, they are an exotic bunch of artsy/crafty folks from Switzerland, France and Michigan (quite a combo right?!). The house definitely appealed to their aesthetic sensibilities, and they loved being able to stay together under one roof for my wedding week. It was the first time all 10 of them have ever stayed under one roof, which made it a fabulous family time for them. They loved being able to walk over to South Congress Avenue and enjoy the many restaurants and shops that are a stone’s throw from the house. And they fell in love with your cat! Monkey is the best!! I also appreciate that you went the extra mile and purchased those super-deluxe air mattresses for the extra two rooms so that there were comfortable sleeping accommodations for the five couples. I was a little skeptical about air mattresses, though the double decker models (with padded headboards!) you selected were surprisingly comfortable and did the trick. They also appreciated how clean the house was and all of your care and attention to detail. Thank you for taking such good care of us all - it meant a lot. Thank you again, from everyone. I hope you enjoyed the bottle of wine that we left. Cheers, Lilia Francesca
