This historic home is a must see in Crested Butte. The Hooper House, originally an old miner's cabin, was built in the 1920's using timbers from "The Big Mine", and enlarged in the 1930's. Further expansion adding two new floors has been recently completed following plans by a local architect that employ fine materials and a design in harmony with the home's origins.
The Hooper House has a spacious living and dining area on the main floor adjoining an open kitchen. The ceilings are vaulted and are highlighted by a truss system made from reclaimed timbers. The Douglas fir flooring on this level was carefully removed from the original house, saved and re-installed. This original flooring is beautifully finished and sets off the other custom woodworking in the house. The kitchen was custom designed and features honed granite countertops, top quality appliances including a sub-zero refrigerator and a restored antique farm sink.
On the main floor there are two bedrooms, each with a queen bed and views of the private landscaped yard. There is also a large period tiled bathroom. The entire main floor and entry way are wheelchair accessible.
The lower level includes a large bedroom, bathroom, entertainment center and utility room. The bedroom has a bunk bed with a full size bed on the bottom and a twin on the top. There is another twin bed with a trundle underneath. All of the mattresses are new and of high quality. The large bathroom features unique hand-painted wildflowers on some of the tiles. The entertainment room has a TV/DVD, stereo, foosball table, two couches and a large granite coffee table.
The second floor has a private master suite with a king size bed and a deck over-looking the landscaped backyard. The tiled bathroom features marble countertops, beadboard wanescot and a dual head shower.
The Hooper House is located on Sopris Ave in the heart of Crested Butte, one block from Elk Ave, the main street for shopping and restaurants, and less than a block from the free shuttle that takes you to the ski area. Save the expense of renting a car, because when you stay at the Hooper House, everything is easily accessible - the grocery store, movie theater, coffee shop, health and fitness centers, the town parks, the Center for the Arts, the Nordic Center, the sledding hill and the ice rink.
Also included at the Hooper House is slope-side ski storage at the Adaptive Sports Center Locker Room in the Treasury Center!
